My sister-in-law absolutely loves Disneyworld! She has worked full time in retail and in the restaurant business for the past few years while she tries to finish up college. She lives in Atlanta. She is considering moving to Orlando and applying for a job at WDW. Should she? Are there jobs available? Do they pay OK? Benefits? Can she find an apartment at a fair price?

I'd appreciate any advice that you might have. I know that a lot of cast members visit this site, so I thought that I'd find the most truthful info here. Thanks!

She needs to apply for hourly roles through Central Casting. There's a phone number she can call on www.disneycareers.com

Housing is fairly affordable, most people end up sharing with a roommate. Getting into WDW f/t can be tough, most people seem to start with p/t roles/hours, and it varies seasonally.

The pay is slightly above minimum wage for most hourly roles, $2.35/hour plus tips for servers.

There is health insurance available, the cm has to pay some of it. After 1000 hours of service you can join the retirement plan, you pay in seven cents an hour towards it.

As an FYI, because they've had too many "looky loo's" who waste their time applying for jobs while theya re on vacation and then deciding they aren't interested when they hear the wages, they pretty much won't even interview you until you LIVE in the Orlando area, unless you are applying for a professional, salaried role.

Tell her to be aware too that there is a lot of movement within WDW with your position. Just because you start at MK Emporium, for example, does not mean that you will ALWAYS work there. It's likely that you will be transferred to other retail areas if/when needed and also to not have you be stationary in one place. It is that way with bartenders, managers, etc. It's also possible to pick up extra shifts at other places...if you work retail in one shop and are good at it, you can pick up shifts at other retail places if you know someone there or if your manager knows you are good and hears that another place needs some help.

For salaried potisions they hire a lot from within the company. I have a friend who started as a waitress....moved to working "in fur" ;) and now is a computer programer. She wanted the computer programmer job, but they wouldn't even look at her until she got her foot in the door at a much lower level.
