Day 5 - Sunday 10/17/04

Who: Mark (me-26)
Molly (DW, 28)
Eric (DS, 2 1/2, first trip since he was 8 months old)
Haley (DD, 4.5 months)

Staying: Old Key West, first stay with our DVC points!!

Plan: Shopping and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Actual:
After a late breakfast, becoming our norm, we hopped onto the bus destin for Downtown Disney. When we got there Eric played for a bit in the fountain by the Christmas Store. He just loves the water! Once he played there for a bit we headed into the Christmas store to shop for some gifts. We ended up hitting only a handful of stores because we stopped for a lunch break at the Rainforest Cafe ~ 1:30. We were really under a little time constraint because we wanted to shop, get home let Eric rest, and then change into our costumes before heading to the Magic Kingdom. We sat down for our lunch, and the food was good. MOlly and Eric had a hand tossed pepporoni pizza, and I had their seafood jumbalaya dish on noodles. The lunch was fun and from now on whenever we hear the word "volcano" we think of their dessert because they must have chanted that about 50 times during our lunch!! :) Once we finished with lunch we headed to the big Mickey store and shopped some more in there. Eric, for the first time this trip, fell asleep in the stroller so that was his nap!! :) We shopped in there for quite a bit because we end up spending too much, but hey you only do it every once in awhile! Once we finished up there we took the ferry ride back to OKW. It was a relaxing ride, with a stop at Saratoga Springs, and a few narrow misses with some folks that don't know how to drive a water mouse!! :)

Once we got back to our room we began the Halloween transformation. This year is the first year in awhile that I actually bought a costume. Normally I would wear one of my hockey jerseys or my baseball uniform, but since we were coming to Disney I went all out and ordered the Captain Hook costume. I must say it was fun to get dressed up again! Anyway, I was Captain Hook, Molly was Minnie, Eric was Peter Pan, and Haley was a sun flower... Yes, I know she wasn't in a Disney costume because the smallest available was 6 months and she just wasn't there yet! So, all decked out we were off to our bus stop. Once there we were the only adults dressed up, but I didn't let it bother me because I knew once we hit the parks there would be tons of adults dressed up no one would even notice us! It was fun though, we met a nice couple that the rest of our vacation called me Captain and Molly Minnie because they saw us that night! This was our first MNSSHP, and all I can say is WOW! It was some fun. We didn't ride many of the rides, one because of the kids, and two we wanted to see everything! The parage was very cool... I liked the haunts with the shovels from the Haunted Masion the best, or maybe a tie with the headless horseman that started the parade. Next were the fireworks, but while we waited Molly headed to the baby care center to feed Haley and then to stake our spot, and I took Eric to ride Astro Orbiter. He is too funny on this ride because he ducks down into the hull and pushes the lever back and forth, but won't sit up to look! :) Once we were done it was back to meet up with Molly and Haley just on the bridge south of the castle. Molly liked the old Fantasy in the Sky show, but I have to say the witch and the 360 degree fireworks were an awesome touch!! once this was all done we headed to Toon Town to trick or treat and to see Mickey and Minnie (more pictures! :) ). So, We were there until Midnight and we finished up on the Liberty Bell boat ride, which disappointed Molly and I... We expected to see some characters or something, but instead we got a halloween story that really wasn't that interesting to either of us... Well now we know! Once the cruise ended it was midnight and they were already funnelling the people out the front. What a night, it was a lot of fun and we will definitely do it again if we can!

Thanks for reading,
Mark
