Day 2 - Thursday 10/14/04
Who: Mark (me-26)
Molly (DW, 28)
Eric (DS, 2 1/2, first trip since he was 8 months old)
Haley (DD, 4.5 months)
Staying: Old Key West, first stay with our DVC points!!
Plan: Epcot
Actual:
Well our day started much differently than any of our previous Disney trips, we slept in! Taking the adivce of many other DVC'ers we just let the vacation go at it's own pace knowing we will be back again! Plus this was our first major vacation alone with the kids, on our last trip to Disney when Eric was 8 months Molly's parents came with us, boy how much we appreciate that now!! Anyway, by the time all the kids, and me, were up and fed we were usually at the bus stop by 10-10:30ish each day. We caught our Epcot bus and we were off. Once in we got our traditional Epcot pictures taken, and then off to future world. Eric had to potty so I ran to see how long the line for Mission Space was because Molly can't ride this one because she gets very motion sick on the motion rides (no star tours or body wars for her). Once I got to mission space I was surprised that the standby line was 15 minutes and the single rider line was 5 minutes. After I met Molly to tell her I was just going to jump on Mission Space "Real Quick" I was off. I headed for the 5 minute single rider line, this was my first time with this "single rider" stuff and I won't do it again! By the time I finally made it up close to where I could get on the ride I was in line almost 30 minutes. I'm sure far longer than if I would've just done the Stand-by line. All I can say is that I rode it! It was very cool, but I think if it would've lasted longer then I might have roder the vomit commet myself!
It was a very cool ride, but I felt the effects for a bit. Once off I met back up with Molly to see that Eric was soaked from jumping in the fountain, but he was having a blast. So I went to get us some Test Track fast passes, and then we were off to the Universe of Energy. I really like the movie, and the ride is always fun to just poke along. Eric wasn't too sure about the dinosaurs, but he liked it when we are done. I'm not quite sure if he knows that the things aren't real, but I'm not going to tell him unless he asks, I don't want to ruin the magic for him. When we were done it was time for our TT fast passes. I let Molly ride first since I had done Mission Space. While we waited I stollered the kids over to the Coke test place, we had never been there before and saw it on that show on TLC. I didn't really try a whole lot because I didn't want to miss Molly since she didn't know where I was. Eric really liked the bubble gum one, and I thought the watermelon one wasn't too bad. Once done there it was back to meet Molly. I took the kids in the back way and we waited there. Eric enjoyed watching the robot arms weld the car over and over and over and over again!!
Once Molly came out I ran around front to get in line for my ride. It was great as usual. The test equipment in the queue wasn't running? Has this been the case for awhile? That kind of disappointed me, and the TV in our car was just a blank screen? Didn't this used to have your test sequence on it? Anyway, the high speed loop was great. Once done with TT we were headed to Spaceship Earth, but got side tracked at the restaurant across from Mouse works for lunch. Once we finished up lunch then we headed off to SE. Eric had fun, but you know he didn't appreciate the scenes, but it moved and there were things that did catch his eye, like the Horse in Rome!!!
After SE it was back to the Coke zone to quench our thirst again! I tried a few more, but the bubble gum and watermelon are still the best in my book. I tried the Beverly just because every does it, and it was horrible just like everyone says!!
Once we were done there we went to the restaurant across from Mouse Works for lunch and a break. Once we were done there we headed off to Honey I Shrunk the Audience to use our fastpass. The show was just about to begin so we walked right in. We missed the "commercial" preshow, which is probably good because I was one of those that liked looking at all those cute pictures to the Cyndi Lauper soundtrack. Eric didn't wear his safety glasses which was probably best, but he liked the water spray at the end! After HIStA we headed over to ride Figment. Basically walked right onto this ride also, this was our first time traveling in October. Normally we travel in the heat of Summer and we are always waiting so we were amazed by how light the crowds were. However on our bus rides to and fro many told us that the crowds seemed quite high for this time? Well they were light from what we were used to!!
Haley loved Figment. We think it was all the colors on the ride. Afterwards I sent 4 picture mails to everyone I could think of! After we were done in the imagination labs we were going to do the Land and the Aquarium, but we opted to head back to OKW to take a break. Once the kids were up from their naps we hit Olivia's for dinner. My dinner was good, but Molly didn't tell me until later that hers was cold? She waS curious if they pre-make the meals?? Eric made a scene most of dinner, but hey he is 2.5 what else is to be expected. After dinner we headed back to Epcot to see Illuminations. We got there early enough to ride some of the boat rides Molly likes. Since we didn't have a fireworks spot staked out we just headed to Mexico and rode the boat in there. And then we headed to Norway to ride the Maelstorm, which I had thought was closed the last time we were there, and Molly really liked it. Eric had fun also, he held on tight, but he liked it. Once we hit those two it was just about time for Illuminations so we searched for a good opening to take a seat. Illuminations is my favorite, but I had a hard time watching it, holding Eric, and trying to film it all at the same time!! I made it through and day 2 had finally come to a close. One bad note, on our way out of Epcot we stopped to get our pictures only to find out that our little card didn't have any pictures on it and they were unable to locate ours??
