WDW Discounts for Disney Store Employees?

Hi! Wow it's been a longgggggg time since I last posted. Our last trip was Nov. 2000! We just got back from a cruise to Bermuda and I'm FULL of WDW fever! haha

We're tentatively planning a trip with friends for November 2004. We may also be buying a house next year so we'll need to save money wherever possible.

I was considering getting a 2nd job at the Disney store (weekends and maybe one night a week) to save up the money for the trip and maybe to take advantage of employee discounts.

Can anyone tell me if this is even worth it? What discounts do they offer? How flexible are they with work hours? I do work a full time job so this cannot interfere with that.

Any help/advice would be appreciated!!

I don't work at the Disney Store, but my friend does and we are going on a trip pretty soon. She gets discounts on disney resorts and I know at the disney restaurants too. I know also that while she has been working, she has been accumulating 1 day tickets. I'm not sure how often, but I think she gets 1 free every few months or so. I don't know what the other perks are.

I think they are good for all the parks at WDW, but I'm not totally sure about that. I know she went to Disneyland last year and there she could only use for Disneyland or California Adventure. But when we come back from our trip, I can let you know if she was able to park hop with them.

my daughter is a cast member she gets 50% off all disney resorts reservations and ticket discounts close to flordia resident discounts 20% off purchases for the first 3 years than purhases discounts increase to 35% food at disney is discounted too no matter how much you work so if you buy everything disney the discounts are worth the cinderella chores required by all cast members which is a very early store stocking and cleaning usually about 6:00 am

Are these discounts for Full Time employees only? I would only be able to work 10-15 hours a week.

The discounts apply to every employee. My friend works full time and her part time job is at the Disney Store. She still gets all the great extras.

At my local Disney Store they aren't allowed to take any time off in November and December. I know one of the ladies was basically fired last year for doing so, and she had been working there a looooooonnnnngggg time.

I had the same idea and called the nearest Disney store (45 miles from us)...and I was told that they require all employees to work at least 4 shifts each week and be available for all weekends. I couldn't do that...too many days a week, plus I am on call for my "real" job at a hospital a couple of nights a week and every 4th weekend. Oh, you also have to be 18, and cannot take off in Nov. or Dec! I think my DS, (19 yrs old and in college), is thinking of applying. He lives about 20 min. from the store. I wonder if his free admission for family would be for parents since he is actually still our dependent while at college? I am going to try to check it out.

I understand that Disney has pretty high expectations of employees - even part time - and you have to be really committed to guest service and selling (and dusting & vaccuming ).

In addition to your regular shifts you have to be available for scheduled "on call" shifts in case they need you at the last minute.

Sounds like a lot of work for a few discounts (unless of course -- you're a Disney fanatic and just want to work for the magical experience).

Well DH and I want to buy a house next spring so ALL our extra money is going towards that. So if I want to go next year, I'll have to earn the extra money to go... and so why not get the perks too!

This will take some thought though... Especially since it's next November that I'd want to be going to WDW!! haaha

A Disney Store employee is the only one that gets into the 4 parks with their ID. Their family, whether they are their children, husband or parents, do not get free admission. The only exception to this is if they are management. The admission rules are different if you're a WDW employee, so that's where the confusion might come from. One of the most demanding part time jobs out there, especially with their black out dates (Nov/Dec--no acceptions) and their on call shift requirements. Not many can cut the mustard on this PT job.

This was the reason that we had to change our vacation, which was originally scheduled for November to October. She had just become a part-time lead manager and they wouldn't let her have the time off in November. The only bad thing about it was we had to pay the fee for changing the dates on the plane tickets.

I was hired for seasonal employment at the Disney Store. My understanding is that seasonal CM's do NOT get free entrance into the parks...just year-round CM's, whether parttime or fulltime.

I have been working since Sept. 11th, and so far the most I've worked in one week has been 11 hours (3 days)! I'm hoping to get more hours as it gets closer to Christmas.

Doesn't the Seasonal Part-timer get discounts on hopper passes and resorts just like they do on the merchandise??

Yes, discounted tickets have to be ordered through the store, and I'm about to do that in the next few weeks, IF the tickets are less than what I could get elsewhere. I don't know what the prices are.

I don't think seasonal cast members are eligible for resort discounts.

I am a "casual" does that mean a seasonal person or a part time person?

Congrats, TarraLee! Yes, "casual" and "seasonal" are the same thing. A parttime person who works yearround gets more perks.
