WDW crowds in SEPT vs. early DEC

Experienced DIS'ers-

Can someone please tell me how the crowds in mid to late September compare to early December?

We are taking two small children for the first time and had originally thought we'd go in December for the Christmas decorations but now I'm starting to rethink it.

The parks in September are really really empty and in early December are really slow. As far as going for the first time both are great times for kids to get right on the attractions. Early December is popular with DVC members but keep in mind DVC members when you are talking numbers at the parks amount to nothing.

Hi,

I'd just like to add that although both Sept and early Dec are slow, that the parks and resorts will be decorated for Christmas in early Dec, and it's really a beautiful time to go. You also will have the option in early Dec, if you desire, to buy tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, a really cool after-hour separate ticket event with special shows, Christmas parade and events. Definitely worth doing, it even "snows" on main street!

There is also the osbourne lights at MGM in Dec, as well as the candlelight processional at Epcot. AK has special exhibits at camp minnie mickey. If you visit in early Dec you get all the beauty and extras of Christmas week without the crowds. I think it's a wonderful time to go. If you want to also enjoy the pool more and not just the parks than September is better since it is still very warm, but the December decorations are nicer.

Just a note on the pool issue. We were down at BCV this past December, and we were able to swim on 3 days. Two of our days were too cool to swim in my opinion, and the other two days were warm enough to swim, but we didn't get down to the pool because of other plans.

One other negative about September...it's right in the middle of hurricane season, and even though hurricanes usually won't hit full force in and around Orlando, it can get mighty rainy if one decides to come ashore along one of the Florida coastlines. Just some food for thought.
