Hi everyone. I posted this in the Theme Park Community forums but no one answered, so I thought I'd post it here before it gets moved or deleted or something...

We're taking our kids to WDW in November. It'll be their first time. DD1 will be 5 and DD2 will be 18 months.

I think DD1 will have more fun and remember the trip more than DD2 (kind of stating the obvious, there), and I'm trying to think of creative ideas so that not only will she have a good time, but we'll have a few keepsakes. One idea I saw from @Chrystmasangel was a Disney World Coupon Book. Give the kid a book of "coupons," like 1 ice cream or 1 souvenir, and let them cash in a few a day. I feel like this will help with the constant "Oh I want that! I want that!" I'm sure we're bound to hear. I know we could buy her souvenirs before going, but buying stuff at Disney is fun and we've put aside money for it. :teeth:

So, what types of things can you all think of that I can put into this coupon book? A little background on DD1: she's weird. :rotfl: She doesn't like chocolate, she doesn't like ice cream, she doesn't really like many baked goods. She's more into sweet stuff, like fruit and candy, and she loves toys and stuff like that.

Ideas.... GO! :wave2:

Maybe 1 plush toy, 1 key chain (if she likes those), 1 bag of jelly beans (they sell them all over the parks, you can mix flavors), an extra 15 mins at the pool (to cash in when you say it's time to go!)

Or you could give her a gift card and let her manage it. This is what we did last trip and it really saved us from the constant "can I get this???" every time we went into a store. I would let dd know the price and let her know if she bought it she would have X amount left on her gift card. It really made her stop and think about what she wanted to purchase.

You could do a coupon for popcorn...or just leave it to say treat and let her pick the treat.
You could do one for a balloon or face painting.
For souvenirs you could do one for a stuffed animal, one for Mickey or Minnie ears (let them choose the style), one for jewelry (thinking cheap kid jewelry here).
You could also do coupons for things like a ride with Mom (or Dad) alone or that they get to pick the next ride/activity (and you have to do it)

We have done gift cards now that the kids are older. When the money is gone, it is gone. That is all they get. It does help them to think before they buy.

Here are some ideas:

-Mickey Ears hat (you can get her name embroidered on the back, and there are many different types to choose from)
-Disney plush/stuffed animal
-Pick-A-Pearl (Japan/Epcot... this is always fun!)
-Build a light saber (if she likes Star Wars... DHS and MK)
-Balloon
-Disney t-shirt
-Ride of her choice
-Character meet of her choice
-Sweet treat of her choice
-Snack of her choice

All of those "of her choice" are things you would probably do anyway, but then she gets to feel grown up in helping make choices.

First of all, if she likes sweets, definitely make a trip to Goofy's Candy Company in Disney Springs if you can. That place is sweets central. The confectionay on Main Street is also good. Definitely create a coupon for a treat of choice from one of these places.

Other ideas:
  • a pressed penny
  • a hat, Mickey ears, or stuffed character
  • an attraction of choice in the current park (let them feel in control-- they whip out the coupon, and wherever you are in the park, you go to that ride)
  • an alternative to attraction of choice is a coupon for a re-ride (when you get off a ride that the kids enjoyed, they can use a coupon to reride it immediately-- very cool to a kid)-- maybe give them a limited selection here so that they can't use it for a ride with a 4-hour wait
  • a Dole Whip
  • stay up late for a fireworks show (if you did not plan on already doing this)
  • stop and play at a splash pad
  • a pin
  • hair clip or barette

Tinkerbell visited my children every night and left a small gift under their pillow (in addition to the great coupon idea). She left them and autograph book, glow bracelets for fireworks... a penny to press... a hairpin... stuff like that and cash for a gift at the end. Tinkerbell seemed to know we were headed to Downtown Disney our last day! My kids are 14 and 16 now and still remember getting up every morning to see what Tink brought them.

And she always left some pixie dust!

Check out the Creative DISigns board here - lots of the designers there create coupons and coupon books, so you will probably encounter some new ideas as well as some pretty (personalizable) designs you may want to use.

A couple more ideas:
- Dinner with XX character (for a character meal you may have booked already)
- Face painting
- Permission to have dessert before the meal!
- Crown/tiara
- Picture with XX character (get a FP a meet if she has a favorite you know she'll love)

I didn't read everyone's ideas so sorry if it's a repeat but what about a stuffed animal, art print, bracelet, or ornament to commemorate your trip?
