WDW considering implementing a tiered ticket price system

Looking at the Price chart survey I am quickly assuming this is a red herring, designed solely to make fans worried about a massive hike, that will turn into tiered pricing and no massive hike for the multi day tickets... ie 10 day doubling in price...

Now, should it turn out that I am wrong, there is a fair chance we will never go to Disney world again....
At over $700 per person that is just about $3,000 for my average sized family. And that is just the tickets.

Between FP+ and planned tiered pricing and the loss of the 10 day discount i don't see the point. If Disney are really testing breaking points , well mine is reached. When Disney Cruise Line, changed pricing model and lowered service levels we stopped sailing with DCL , we had about 35-40 nights on Disney boats, and frankly we have been very pleased with the change.
If the new pricing structures are real i would almost be glad, it would provide a clean break from Disney parks.

How would your tickets be 700 per person? A season pass doesn't even cost that much.

well I get the 10 day pass, I thought I said 10 day there somewhere...

and the ten day pass will be about 700 depending on dates ...

that means it will be $3,000 for my family. To me that places a Disney trip up a level in terms of total cost; and thus it is competing with some very attractive options. $3,000 for entrance, plus flights and accommodation could go a long way on a trip to Hawaii , eu, southern hemisphere...

a Hawaii trip with an extra $1.5 k could get us some nice perks, charter a couple boat trips or stuff like that.

Well I think Disney would keep the current structure with packages that each day the ticket gets cheaper. This would mainly be for one day tickets and stuff like that.

I'd take any pricing charts with a grain of salt at this point. While probable, the mere idea of a tiered pricing model is still only a possibility being tossed around in a survey. The chart from Touring Plans assumes the 5-45% discount for 2-10 day tickets from the survey and starts from the 1-day ticket price for Magic Kingdom. Disney's current multi-day tickets do not appear to use the 1-day Magic Kingdom price as a starting point -- current 2-day is closer to an average of MK and Other -- and are much more steeply discounted as it works toward 10 days (~65%).

Besides the relatively modest increase in pricing over the past few years, a price increase of >50% for longer stays during non-peak periods doesn't appear to make much sense under the current pricing model or the tiered pricing model.

I agree. I don't know where TP got these numbers but they are ridiculous. There is no way Disney would discourage people from staying longer. The parks would become a ghost town almost immediately.

they may choose to keep it the same or they may post prices as shown in the survey, most likely it will be a middle ground making the 10 day ticket unattractive. We are one of those families at a tipping point, between over crowding, over charging , and the new FP system, Disney is not as attractive as it once was compared to other destinations and other parks.

But I am sure Disney has plenty of new customers to fill all and any voids left by changes in pricing structure.

You know, I wonder how WDW (if this were implemented) could discourage people from "staying longer" CONTINUOUSLY. The worst side effect could be mass migrations to Universal on "gold" days :). That could be a bit negative for them....

Not really if they want to lower crowds on Gold days anyway.

Not staying at Aulani, I would assume?

I'm telling you...they're getting out in front of the message. Stay tuned.

And if you're betting that backlash would significantly affect attendance...the house will take your bet any day of the week.

Only a recession will really knock them on their cans. Look out there...next one will be brutal for them.

From what I've heard...grain of salt...aulani is out of the way on Oahu in a somewhat underutilized area.

So the reason I believe it's "highly rated" is the clientele they're attracting...

Yep...you guessed it - the D crowd.

I'm sure it's nice - they spent a damn fortune on it.

But Aulani is highly rated by travel companies and I've never heard someone complain about it. With that said just like a disney cruise we can't afford it.
Hawaii is loaded with beautiful resorts. I price compared and I could get a lot more at a comparable resort fro about 1/2 the price. Same thing with DCL, and ABD.

I don't think I could ever swallow the cost of adventures...
The cost would ruin it even if its a nice experience.

I'd also have to think long and hard about cruiseline again. It's really hard to justify double the going prices for cruises when you are getting a limited selection of cape may cafe/chef mickeys caliber of food.

I don't disagree that they may very well be raising and doing tiered pricing. But the savings for staying extra days will stay the same. With that price structure there is no reason for families to extend their trip past 2-3 days. I've been enough times and know what I'm doing that I can do everything I want in 2 days if I have to. But I prefer to stay a week so I can take my time and do things multiple times. And I do because going for 2 days is not cost efficient. With this price structure it will be. And even worse, people will "make the trip worth it" buy staying off site and visiting the competition to round out the week instead. You can get a season pass to Universal for what a 2 day park hopper costs at Disney. If 10 days costs $700, then they are going to have to nearly double the cost of a season pass. Unless their goal with this is for everyone to just buy a season pass so it's cheaper.

I think that this whole tiering ticket idea just sounds Confusing. Can you picture the ticket line at TTC? "Hey honey, What color ticket do we get? The Bronze, silver, or the yellow?"

They've been trying to shutdown the TTC for years anyway...I bet they'll love longer/slower lines
