I have to admit it...I'm a digital camera virgin. :guilty: I bought a new film camera less than 2 years ago and now it's not working. :sad2: So it looks like it's time to make the switch to digital. :cheer2: The only thing is I don't have a clue about them. :confused3 I borrowed a friends Kodak EasyShare DX4530 5.0 MP 3X optical zoom and I liked it, but it's really big and heavy, also I got so spoiled with more zoomage from my old camera that I think I might want to be able to zoom more. :earseek: So, what do you own and do you like it, or do you wish you'd have gotten something different? We are looking to spend between $300-$450. What would you recommend? Thanks! :cool1:

I've had three digital cameras - an HP and 2 Kodaks. I LOVE the Kodak software. I just got the Kodak DX7590 from my wonderful DH for Christmas - it ROCKS!!! 10x OPTICAL zoom (digital zoom gives grainy pics - so optical zoom is important), you can take video with sound, huge LCD screen, you can buy additional external flashes, 5.0MP, German glass lens, long battery life, it comes with the easyshare dock which charges the battery, etc. You can check it out here:Kodak DX7590 Digital Camera. There are picture examples there too. There is only 32mb of onboard memory, which is not a lot on a camera like this (picture files are large when taken at best setting). DH bought me a 512 MB card and that has worked great. They can be found for about $50.

I specifically wanted this camera bc I was thinking ahead to our future WDW trip - how awesome the zoom would be LOL That was when we were supposed to be going in 2007. Well he got me the camera, so that helped our decision to go this summer hehe! I really love this camera. You do need to be VERY VERY steady when using the zoom or it can be blurry due to the slower shutter speed. It just takes some playing with to get used to it and fine tune your skills - which is a ton of fun to do LOL It *is* a big bulky, but that is the only drawback.

I noticed amazon.com has it for $448 with free shipping, and then there is a $50 mail in rebate thru April 30 making the final price $398 - AWESOME DEAL!!! I think my DH paid closer to $500! Amazon won't show you the price til you add it to your cart - not sure why but I know some other online stores do that with high ticket items also. Just an FYI :) Good luck and if you have any other ?s about this camera, I'll be happy to try to answer them for you! :cool1:

PS also wanted to add that there is an attached lens cover for the dx7590- VERY important!!!! :)
