WDW Attractions for the ride phobic, staunchly (think Footloose) religious?

OP, does your wife shave her legs? You remind me very much of a poster from about a year ago ;)

I feel bad for you. This could be a non vacation with the daily stress of doing vs not doing rides. I'd think about setting her up at a spa and offering to take the kids while she relaxes.

Okay, I have to ask.

If someone is very religious, and like in this case, very against the ideas of pirates for example (to use an example that the OP used as something to avoid)....if a person is very religious, why would simply seeing a reference to pirates while on an amusement park ride be a problem? Is it going to make her question her beliefs? Is it going to make her susceptible to some evil? Is it going to harm her spiritually to see an animated pirate? I don't understand the need to work so hard to avoid looking at something. Can someone explain?

I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm trying to understand. Really.

This question, along with many of the other recent posts, has already been addressed both by PPs and the OP, but I'll try to help anyway, since reading the entired thread may be numbing.

The dude said his DW feels like she is contributing to, accepting of, and participating in the very things that she is opposed to by going on those rides (or watching those movies, participating in events, whatever).

Its like, some ultra conservative Christians won't allow their kids to partake in Halloween because it promotes paganism.

Its just a personal belief. May not match everyone's, but the DW said she wants to go (actually is apparently rather insistent at this point), will consider things closely and make a decision that is comfortable to her. That seems fair.

I really think the OP is trolling.

On the Nokia troll scale one being the Travelocity gnome and 10 being a full grown HP mountain troll I give this a 1.76. :goodvibes

Some of the other posts on this thread 7 to 8. :thumbsup2

LOL, where on your scale you put longtails from Norway?

Well if this is the case, wouldn't paying for admission to the park count as contributing to and endorsing things that she is opposed to?

I'm glad for the OPs kids that at least she is willing to let them go and not putting a damper on their fun.

Well, I'll be making an assumption here, not answering for the OP, but my guess is that she does not feel as though Disney in general is "evil", she just feels that witches, wizards, sorcery, magic, ghosts, and similar things are.

Does Disney incorporate those things into their movies, rides, and general existence? Absolutely, and as the OP said, going was not her idea...she's going because her family wants to go - so while she may or may not agree with Disney as a company, she's willing to make at least some sacrifices for her family while not having to totally comprimise all of her beliefs by being exposed over and over again to the very things that she views as "evil"...things that bother her.

I'm sure its not easy for any of them.

Disagree! I grew up in a JW house where my parents were wound even tighter than the OP's wife is - to the point where they physically abused us for stepping outside their lines (while the elders looked blissfully on, but that's another story!) Disney World was never a possibility for us, financially and because of all the magic. My aunt and uncle were allowed to take me along with their kids to Florida one time, and he wanted to take us to Disney World, but I was not allowed in the Magic Kingdom, so we ended up at MGM for a day. I am now shunned (never baptized so not disfellowshipped, but I ran away from the abuse and disassociated myself from the congregation) but I definitely know where the OP is coming from. It's a sucky situation, and I am sad for the kids.
