On 03 August Disney Park Blogs reported while announcing the Magic Key program for DL that WDW annual pass program would return with more info to be published by the end of August...since that report was published 23 days ago I have seen/read nothing to suggest that will happen. Perhaps the overwhelmingly negative responses to Genie/Genie+ is the reason...thoughts?

Maybe the fact that WDW park attendance and hotel occupancy rates have cratered is having an impact as well.

yep...definitely a bad look for Chapek as he emerges from Iger's shadow...whether or not it's true he's looking like a CEO that is more interested in short term money making than long term welfare of the company

He's certianly not coming off too well, regardless of if it is all his direct doing. He seems like a bad fit, but if profits are stong I am not sure teh shareholders will care too much.

Eh, it cratered at exactly the time that they crater every year: the last week(s) of August when kids go back to school. September has historically been the slowest month because of back-to-school and weather being generally awful. They're sold out solid the entire rest of the year, as evidenced by the impossibility of getting hotel reservations in October, November, or December.

Which ironically started to tank days after his last big earnings call about how amazing the next fews months are looking in terms of bookings and such.

We go end of august and in september alot and this is far lower than most years, plus there has been tons and tons of cancellations. Now the reasons why is the trickier, some could be internationals that had hoped they would be able to go and still cant, covid worries, kids back in school and missing school for vacation is just not as much a thing right now and people waiting for the 50th. Now covid worries if it stays like this will probably start to effect october in a couple weeks but there is still time for those .

I just did a quick search for hotel rooms from 10/1/21 - 10/5/21 which I would think would be completely sold out since it is the start of the 50th - and there is availability. It actually surprised me because I expected no availability.

I also checked 12/9/21 - 12/14/21 and there is availability then too. Many of the most popular hotels like Pop Century and AoA are completely sold out though - so is definitely high demand compared to what would be a normal fall season I think.

Question is - will there be a lot of cancellations as we approach these dates?

The rumor is that cancellations increased dramatically in August as people approached their trip date. TouringPlans seems to think there was an increase in cancellations in August... https://touringplans.com/blog/demand-drops-at-disney-world-as-covid-cases-rise-in-florida/

It cratered a lot more then it usually does for this time of year though. I posted this in another thread, but here's the touringplans comparison:

That is 13 days in a row of Crowd Level 1 observations. That is unheard of. Here's the comparable 13 days in 2019:

I just saw that passes will be for sale on Sept 8. No longer include photo pass but you can add it on.
