WDW and skirts

We just scheduled a last minute trip for Sunday January 14 - 22. We are very excited.

My problem. I am a skirt wearer. I do not own a pair of pants or capris. I am not morally opposed to wearing pants though. I just know that my "mommy body" is more suited for skirts.

My questions:
1. Are there any skirt wearing mamas out there that do Disney in their skirts? If so, do your skirts keep you from fully enjoying yourself.

2. Should I just get over myself and buy some pants to wear while at WDW? I just know I will not wear them once I return home.:guilty:

TIA

I dont wear skirts all the time, but when I do I am prone to chafing from sweating/legs rubbing together. If you are going in the heat, that might add to discomfort. And if you are riding rides, it might be a hinderance as well. Some of the more thrill rides require you to sit in a position which might not work the best with skirts. Enjoy your trip!

People wear full gammut of clothing there- you won't stand out in a crowd wearing a skirt (unless it is black sequens or something, and even those types of things are already seen around there.

Suggestion might be to wear exercise shorts (a.k.a. "bike shorts" - those spandex ones) under your skirt- helps with any chafing from the heat and also eases your mind on any wild rides.

Enjoy your trip!! Wear what you are comfortable in - it is VACATION after all!

I have the exact opposite problem...my "mommy body" was made for capris. I always worry about "blub" when I wear skirts...haven't worn one in years, much to the chagrin of the extended family. In fact, I wore overalls to a baby shower once...I thought they were gonna kill me on sight. My point being, I can't think of a thing you can't do in the parks in a skirt and I think it's nice for a girl to wear skirts...we are girls, after all. If you feel comfortable in a skirt then wear it. The trip is expensive enough without wasting money on clothes you'll never wear again.

Good luck, God Bless, and have fun!

hi there thought id offer adviice on my experience, i was also a skirt wearer and on my first trip to wdw i wore a skirt and i suffered from chafing and it really did put a dampner on the hol as it really hurt esp in the heat so i went out and bought some shorts and have never looked back since!
They were much more practical and comfortable and the chafing stopped completely.
We go to disney every year, we are getting married there this june and i wear shorts every day and its great! Obviously i wont be wearing them on my wedding day but you get the idea!
Hope this helps

I've worn skirts/skorts plenty of times. I have some nice casual jean or cotton skirts that I've worn w/ sandals lots of times. I prefer the skort but if the skirt is at least to your knees you shouldn't have any trouble climbing in/out of rides. Any shorter and you risk showing something when you straddle the ride cars getting in/out. I especially like them when we do a nicer ADR and we'll get a family picture taken. Looks cute.

Adding- I've never had a problem w/ chafing even with my larger thighs that like to stick close to each other. your mileage may vary.

I wore some skirts in Disney last September. I used Monistat chaffing relief on my thighs and I was happy and comfy. I did not have any problems what so ever.

I agree that wearing something (bike shorts) under might be the best thing, for comfort & modesty.

Isn't there something to prevent chafing? Body glide or something? I saw it on the tips board but haven't really looked into it. Found it http://www.bodyglide.com/

Shorts might not work for January anyhow. :) Check the forecast before you leave.

I wear skirts all the time in WDW. For our December trip I often wore them with some footless tights that I found at Macy's so no chafing or modesty problems. When the weather was too warm for the tights I used Body Glide (found at our local athletic store) to prevent chafing. HTH!

We went last January during the same week and I would have been cold in summer skirts. I wore jeans and capris and we usually started off with jackets and sweatshirts and as the day went on we sometimes took them off, sometimes kept them on. When we arrived on the 13th last year it was only in the 40's and we were glad to have our winter coats. The winter weather in Florida is really unpredictable.

On the other hand, if you are used to being in skirts all the time, maybe you will be fine. Have a great trip! It is a great time of the year for almost nonexistent crowds!

We just got back laast week. I had capris, pants and skirts along. I ended up wearing a skirt most days.
I didn't have any problem with chafing, but I am used to wearing skirts (and, as someone else said, your milage may vary).

I wore skirts last year when we went for a week and I had no problems. My only advice is don't wear a thin or sheer skirt on a water ride...everyone will see your business. Have fun!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I am so happy that I can wear my skirts!:thumbsup2

I checked the weather and it is supposed to be in the high 70's most of the week. A little warmer than I had hoped, but I am not worried about chafing at all. I have never had a problem with it eventhough my thighs are rather full. I am taking my bloomers/split slips with me to wear under my skirts. All my skirts fall anywear from below the knee to my ankle and are flowy - not constricting in anyway.

I really appreciate all your imput! :goodvibes

I agree that a skirt will pose no problems for you. You may want to do a longer skirt, though, and wearing bike shorts underneath is a fantastic idea. Then you really don't have to worry about getting on and off the rides without flashing anything, and it will definitely help with chafing.
