WDW and IOA/US trip day 4
Cast of characters:
Me - 41 (obsessed with Disney and planning, planning, planning)
DH - 45 ((goes along with my plans and the occasional How much is this going to cost me?)
DS - 15 (Loves Disney as much as I do)
DD - 11 (just glad to be on vacation anywhere)
Traveling with DB - 61 and his family (DW 50, DNEIC 8, DNEPH 11)
Finally, the day has come when we move over to the DTD - Hilton. We pack up from the HRH, settle our bill and say goodbye to a lovely hotel. DH and I shopped a bit in the morning at the gift shop in the lobby. I purchased a cute sweatshirt and we picked up the kids some shirts as well. DH picked out a very nice shirt and a new bathing suit. I asked for and received a 10% discount because of AAA. BTW, if you are going to US or IOA, make sure you always ask for the AAA discount if you have a card. It saves you 10% on food and shopping!
We leave and head out towards Disney on I -4 (or at least we thought so). Turns out that we went East instead of West. Oh well, after getting the right directions, we head over. We arrive at about 11:30 am at the DTD Hilton. This is my first time here, my brother stayed here before. He is a diamond club member. He was able to get us the rooms using his points.
DB and I check in while DH coordinates the car's and luggage. SIL and kids wait for us. The hotel lobby is nice and large. They are doing some renovations so the East towers so they are closed. We are given the ninth floor (concierge level) in the West Wing. We are able to check in because of the Diamond Club membership DB has. We walk up to our rooms. DB has a suite and a connecting room with two queen beds for my family. Kids are thrilled when they see how big the suite is and love the connecting rooms. They also are thrilled about the concierge and stopped by for some cookies and soda. We decide to spend the day at the pool and then head over to DTD. We get our luggage, unpack and head down to the pool area. There are two pools. We opted for the larger one and kids hopped right in ready to cool down. SIL and I talk for a while, then I get out my new novel The DaVinci Code and prepare for some good reading. It is very hot and before long, I find myself moving to the shade and then eventually back to the room.
Before long, kids decide they have enough and head back to the room as well. The kids again grab more cookies and soda from the lounge and we decide to shower and prepare for dinner and DTD.
About 5:30 we are all ready to go. No one is really hungry (you think all the cookies and soda filled them up ?!?!LOL). We decide to head over to the lounge and grab a few quick bites to eat (food here was vegetable sticks with dip, Swedish meatballs and some sort of spinach bite size turnover). We know head over to DTD which is in walking distance. (the hotel also has a bus, but it stops along the way to other hotels that it really wasnt worth it.). DS is really into pin trading and he got the other kids involved. Before you know it, they are buying pin bags and trading pins at the giant pin station. All us adults decide to sit and wait for them and do some people watching. Finally, kids are done at the DTD Pin Trading Station and we head over to do some shopping. First stop World of Toys. Kids looked around but found more fun in trading pins with the CMs. We then continued on to so more shops and bought a few items. DB bought my daughter and DNEIC a matching Disney outfit (really cute!). They decided that they would wear them together one day at Disney this week. The boys were still actively trading and were not interested in shopping. We did stop at the lego store and they spent some time in here. We passed on Girahadellis but the line was so long, no one felt like waiting. We decided we had enough and we headed back to the hotel. Tomorrow, DB and his family were going to Blizzard Beach where he was meeting up with his older daughter and her family. We had already made plans with some friends to do Blizzard Beach on Friday when DB was leaving and we only had one plus option. So instead we are going to MGM and meet our friends in the morning. Stay tuned for day 5 at MGM!
