Does anyone know if Disney has restrictions/issues with kids on Heelies in the parks?

They are not allowed. I have seen cm's tell kids to put their wheels away (I guess some pop out?) when entering the park.

Edit to add:

I just read a tip on the All Ears® newsletter that "Heelys" are no longer allowed in Disney World. Can you verify if this is true? I was just buying my niece and nephews Heelys as well as a pair for myself to cruise around the parks on our family reunion event in May. When I was there last year every kid had them on. Has something happened?

Hi Tania!

This is not a new policy. Wheeled footwear such as "Heely"-type shoes, in-line skates, and roller skates have always been banned from the parks. This is also true of scooters and skateboards. It appears that park management has finally decided to fully enforce this rule, probably due to the fact that so many people are suddenly arriving in the parks wearing "Heelys."

I've recently heard rumors that guests wearing "Heelys" were threatened with fines, so to avoid an unpleasant experience, it would be better to leave the wheels at home.

Thank you for the quick answer - I had a feeling that might be the case.

That is good! It is so annoying to be hit all the time by kids on those who have no control.

No ~ from the WDW Official website, the bold is mine:

Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?

A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
Alcoholic beverages
Weapons of any kind
Folding chairs
Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
Pets (unless they are service animals)
In Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted.

Officially, they're not allowed. But, I just got back and saw them everywhere.

Ditto-

they're officially "not allowed," but they are all over the place. It seems like a lot of people come down here, buy their kids the Heelies they see on sale at the outlets, and the kids are falling all over the place. :headache:

Boy, this is a hot topic! I understand that the "official" WDW website states that you may not wear heelies. There are no signs before entering the parks, inside the parks or in the WDW maps that say you may not wear wheeled-shoes. The only people that "know" about the policy are the ones that have read the specific section on the official WDW website. :rolleyes1

I hate hate hate Heelys! My 11 yr old wanted them soooo bad. Shes a klutz! Well on her last trip to FL to visit her grandparents, she came home with a pair! She gets yelled at all the time in every store we go to. And she fell and broke her finger so bad she had her whole hand and wrist casted. I am not one of those sue happy people who would allow my kid to heely around and get hurt then complain. I let her use them and if she falls then its her own stupidity.

Since I quoted the website on this thread - I assume you were rolling those roll eyes at me. May I ask what is wrong with knowing the rules of entry before you go? People asked if heelies are allowed and I happend to have read the website. FWIW I was looking for information on jogging strollers when I noticed the reference to wheeled shoes. Anyone who reads allears would be aware of the rule as well.

There is a sign outside of MGM and I anticipate the other parks will follow.

Since all the stores I frequent also have signs in the doors "NO HEELEYS" as well as the local bowling alley and skating rink I would think more places than not are banning them. It would make sense to me to check the rules prior to planning to use these shoes anywhere. I simply provided the link.

I think the eye rolling was in frustration that it's only those of us who check that then follow the rules. Just frustrating that they're not enforced.

I had emailed Disney about this, as the last time we were there, I was run into by a child on heelies. No one was hurt badly, though I'm sure the child was bruised, he hit the ground hard.

I was called by the corporate office at Disney yesterday, and told that there is a ban on Heelies, and they are trying to get the word out to the frontgate and CMs. If you see someone on them, especially if they appear to be out of control, you should let a CM know and they are supposed to take care of it, or get a manager to take care of it, if they are uncomfortable doing so.

I know a lot of people are heated on this subject, but the main issue shouldn't be whether their child is careful on them, but the fact that they are an accident waiting to happen. A rock under the wheel, a child who has lost control on a hill, someone walking out of shop while junior is zooming in front of the entrance... bam, on the ground.
