WDW 2008, just us and the weans - NOW WITH PICS!!!

Hey Alysa, jmskinner & Piscesangel

We are quite relaxed now as basically we are going on the holiday we always should have, although I am gutted to be missing the Halloween party, I sooooo wanted to see the Headless Horseman from Ichabod Crane and the gravediggers with sparking shovels, oh well I must move on and forget about it. Given the financial stramash all over the place we dont wanna gamble on doing something in 2 years time, we need to go for it now and have some fun :cool1:

POFQ looks really nice and I am looking forward to wandering around getting lots of pics

Still planning to be back in 2010 though

Glad to hear you are doing well and I know you are going to have a fantastic time. Have you set dates for 2010 yet?

It would be in June 10 most likely, finances permitting. The big draw will be the new Harry Potter experience at Universal being up and running..... woohoo!

Ok when I next post on here you will be down to 2 weeks or so! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: See how fast time will fly!!! :goodvibes Cant wait to hear all about the planning when I get back.

We stayed at the Port Orleans the year DH proposed to me. It was lovely, you'll adore it. The one thing I remember everyone talking about were the bunnies EVERYWHERE! It was like walking though a Disney movie! And the pool is adorable! The room decor and the architecture are lovely and it is so nice being beside the water! The water launches are great - so relaxing! We could see fireworks from downtown Disney from our window but I don't know if they still do that. Beautiful fiountains everywhere too - so romantic. Great choice!
Have you ever seen Cold Comfort Farm? If yes, you'll understand: Pop? "No Flora. No."
;)
They have bunnies too!!!!! I can't wait! I've never seen Cold Comfort Farm, but I'll need to check it out!

Ok, am trying to multi quote here, and I've only been half successful - d'oh!

I feel the same as you. We need to enjoy life now while we can. I know of too many people that put things off until retirement only to be unable to do those things once they reached retirement. I feel as long as you can pay the bills its ok. Of course right now its scary with the stock market so vacations seem to be all we can invest in and get some sort of return.

I hope you enjoy POFQ and I think as long as you have a sunny day with little wind you should be fine. That is what I have read about the water parks in the winter. Hey, some of those Christmas decorations may be up since MVMCP starts so soon.

I'm just getting caught up and I'm glad to hear you just threw caution to the wind and booked POFQ! Sometimes you just have to treat yourself, and you and your family definitely deserve it! :goodvibes

My sentiments exactly! You can't take it with you when you're gone!
We're still thinking about MVMCP, but this holiday is costing us more - even before the upgrade to POFQ :rolleyes1 . Got to keep a bit of an eye on the finances  Credit crunch....global economic meltdown and all that....
We may change our mind when we get there though! :santa: Snow on Main St!!!!! :cloud9:

Congrats on upgrading! That is exciting.

Hi Melissa,
I was wondering about the Christmas decorations, but MVMCP starts the week beg 10th November, so I thought they would put them up for that?
Anyhow, no biggie, at least we're getting to go!
Just ignore me, i go on about the polar bears and carbon footprints, and then fly across the Atlantic for thousands of miles, probably merrily killing polar bears as i go! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I don't know if we can get enough energy efficient lightbulbs/recycling in our house to offset that!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Holiday News Update!!!!

Well, I did it, I phoned our travel agent today and upgraded to POFQ!!!!!
I just couldn't get it out of my head, and, nice as POP is, I just thought - why not!
We've saved really hard for this holiday, and came so close to losing it.....I just threw caution to the wind and went for it (very unlike me!!!!)
If anything, this whole travel company collapse has shown me, is to live life for just now - you never know whats around the corner.....we have the money now......and next year i could get hit by a bus and never get to spend it!
Cheerful aren't I? :lmao: :lmao:
We might never be able to afford to stay there again (travel firms over here are putting prices way up!)
I'll have a panic attack tonight - I never impulse buy! :scared1: :scared1:

So now, we have a pool with a slide - I need you to keep me updated with weather Melissa - it just better be warm enough to use it! :worship:

:yay: :yay: :yay: Yay for the upgrade. I think that you will like it!

Ok, now I have to rent this Cold Comfort Farm. I had never heard of it, but I like Kate Bekinsale.

I was thinking of MVMCP myself and noticed it started Nov. 10, so maybe the Christmas decorations will be up for you. It would be a nice surprise wouldn't it?

Rufus Sewell is Over-sexed Cousin Seth and Ian McKellen is Crazy Uncle Amos Starkadder, scaring the birds from the trees. :lmao: It's the best! You might try the library for the rental - it must be over ten years old now, by the BBC. Oh I almost forgot Stephen Fry is the poet Mybug. :rotfl:

OK, you had me on Rufus Sewell, that man is a GOD!!!!!!!!!!! The combination of his name in conjuction with 'sexed' is almost too much for my heart! :faint: :faint: :faint:

Excellent way to think! I love it!! :thumbsup2
That is now my new life philosophy!

Hi Di!

4 weeks left! :woohoo: :dance3: :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :yay: :woohoo:
I know, about time too! I feel like my ticker has been going backwards! Can't wait for single digits!!!

Congrats on upgrading! That is exciting.
I can't wait to see POFQ, it looks so pretty!

MVMCP starts 10th Nov, so I'm hoping some decorations will be up, I know The Osborne lights won't be, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some baubles!

That's great you are now staying at POFQ. :thumbsup2

Less than 4 weeks to go now. :cool1:

Hi Mary-Ellen,
Times going by now! Nearly at the under 3 week mark! :yay: :yay:
Can't wait to stay at POFQ, usually I start hyperventilating and worrying about imminent bankrupty when we spend money, but am feeling really good about the upgrade. I think if we had stayed at POP I would have spent the whole time feeling it was a little bit like second best (not that it is, POP is great, but this holiday was going to be POFQ).

No real updates at the moment, but I got our car rental voucher emailed, so that's one less thing to worry about. Just waiting for the tickets at the moment! When they come I'll know it's really happening! :dance3:

Still waiting to hear back from ATOL, we've not had a confirmation letter through yet, will need to phone them tomorrow. My friend who had booked with Seguro had hers after about 1-2 weeks, and DHs work colleague (again with Seguro) has got her money back!
I think they've had so many claims with XL, who knows how long this will take - but I've got a holiday to pay for!

Tomorrow I'll phone to book our photo session at GF - then I'll be able to show the photos to all our friends...."Yes, our hotel was lovely - as you can see" :rolleyes1
And it gives me another legitimate reason to wander around that hotel :cloud9:

No other updates of note, other than our friend Michael, saying he thinks its 'madness' for us to drive down to London. But he's known us long enough to know we're certifiable!

That's all for now!

Congrats on the upgrade! Great idea. This trip needs to be just as good if not better to make up for the stress.

I'll look forward to seeing your GF photos. The photoshoots sound great.

Wow, that is a long way to the airport! I hadn't thought about how far that was. How many hours does it end up being? We have flown out of the Philadelphia airport which is about 6-7 hours from us. My inlaws live there and we all flew together.

Hi Kathleen,
It's about 400+ miles to London, so should take us about 6-7 hours, so same as you really. We're planning to leave in plenty of time so if we need to stop and rest it won't be a problem. And we'll take turns driving, I'll drive the first few hours. DH can do the scary bit of driving nearer London! :scared1: :scared1:

Di, I've finally had a chance to get caught up. I'm sure that the gift shop at POFQ should have plenty of Halloween merchandise on hand when you arrive so Grumpy should be able to proceed straight there & clean them out. Just a head's up, though, that while there's plenty of Jack (Jack Skellington ears!), Sally & even Zero there's little to nothing featuring the other characters...and absolutely NO Ooogie Boogie! Yes, Ooogie is my favorite & they couldn't manage one measley little maggot stuffed pillowcase ;) . Anyway, the shops in the parks had NBC and Halloween stuff so hopefully they won't clear them off the shelves on November 1. Maybe they'll even mark them down :lmao: . Yeah, I know, it's Disney but it's also a time honored American tradition to buy holiday merchandise on clearance the day after the holiday itself.

Tell your better half to keep his eyes peeled for the NBC baseball jersey :thumbsup2 .

I think that you did the right thing. After having the last holiday cruelly yanked away from you this one "needs" to be right. I remember with our trip when I first floated the idea past my husband. He eventually agreed but only if I could have the entire trip costs be within the scope of the stimulus checks that were going to be sent out over the summer. OK! Done! I was the budget queen and the DIS was my spirit guide...I was rocking! Meanwhile, the check never showed. Finally in August, I called the IRS to see what was up & was told that we wouldn't be getting one because my SS# was still in my maiden name & our taxes were filed under my married name. I was sick...I fully expected my husband to tell me to cancel the trip. I was shocked when he said "let's do it now because we have no idea when or if we'll be able to ever do it again". So you're doing it! Take the trip the way that you first intended to take it & don't look back :woohoo: .

Tomorrow I'll phone to book our photo session at GF - then I'll be able to show the photos to all our friends...."Yes, our hotel was lovely - as you can see" :rolleyes1

:lmao:
I know that I'll be reviled for this but while I thought that the GF was lovely it also made me think of one of those sanitariums by the sea (Portishead?) where they used to send the terminally ill during the turn of the century. I KNOW, I KNOW, I'm terrible but I couldn't help it!!

No other updates of note, other than our friend Michael, saying he thinks its 'madness' for us to drive down to London. But he's known us long enough to know we're certifiable!
It sure keeps things interesting, though, doesn't it?

BTW- I'm sure they'll have the Christmas lights up when you're there. After all, they started Halloween started in September at WDW ;) .

Hi Di! I wanted to let you know that I think I saw a lot of NBC stuff in the shop for Backlot Tour at Hollywood Studios. Well, not a lot but there was one whole area dedicated to it. Plus the large store when you first enter HS. None of it was specifically Halloween related.
