I am setting a goal for myself to walk/run the 2007 Half Marathon. If I have a goal to accomplish it will certianly inspire me to exercise more and eat better. As of late, I am rather out of shape, but it wasn't really that long ago that I was walking 5+ miles a day. If anyone can give me any advice, tips, suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Also as an aside, does anyone know if the babysitting services available at WDW are available during the marathon times? I'm a single parent, and I can't imagine going to WDW without my daughter, but I really want to run that half marathon! Any advice would be appreciated!

First off, welcome! This is a great group & you will love it here. I just did my first 1/2 this Jan. It was awesome! Such a great experience. Right now you should be "training to train" the actual training program for a 1/2 is about 14 weeks, so until then work on building your fitness, eating better, if you are planning on losing any weight do it now because its hard during training. Finding a plan will help too. I (and alot of others here) used the book Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham. It is a good book and has very doable training plans. Look at the weekly thread we have too, there are links to different sites that will have some info for you.

I dont think they have babysitting services during the marathon. You will be leaving your hotel at 3:00 a.m. there is not much else going on except getting the athletes where they need to go. Maybe you can get a friend or family member to come, watch DD & cheer you on. My kids loved all the goings on during the marathon weekend so she will have a good time.

Watch out, its addictive. When I signed up for the 1/2 in July I had never even done a 5k. Now I've completed the 1/2, in May I'm doing the Minnie Marathon 15k and a sprint triathlon and in Sept. DL 1/2. :cool1:

So glad I found this part of the board. I am also planning on doing the 1/2 marathon. I am in close to decent shape, but my exercise has very sporadic for the last six months of 2005. Need to lose a few pounds. I joined the YMCA and things have gotten better thanks to the childcare. What better way to stay focused than having the Magic Kingdom as a goal. I got a running book on the basics of running by Jeff Galloway that is very helpful on a realistic way to gradually and safely increase your distance. I plan on buying his marathon training book when the race gets closer. Right now I am doing the self.com fitness challenge. It has a workout log which makes me face up to missing any days of exercise. It just started and lasts for three months. There are some great inspirational stories on the sight. I have also told a few close friends and family members about my goal for the 1/2 marathon and have asked them to ask me how it is going every few weeks to keep me on track and accountable to someone. What are the dates for next year? Have they been released yet? I think I will go ahead and book my room to further commit myself. For those that have been, What are the crowds like days following the race :? I will probably go for 10 days with my husband, 3 and 5 year old. :cool1:

I am also new to the 1/2 marathon and distance running. I am using the 1/2 marathon as motivation to finally lose all the baby weight I gained. Also, I have wanted to run the 1/2 since before having kids.

Mom4... my kids are almost 3 and 5 1/2 (3 1/2 and 6 when it come 1/2 time!). I hope to see you there!!

Tinkerbelle... do you have anyone that could go with you to watch your daughter? Sister, mom, friend????

Such great motivation on these threads. It has changed my attitude 100%. When a week ago I thought it was impossible, now I am thinking that I just maybe can do it!!

COngrats on taking this big step Tink!! My best advice is to head to the Running/Walking club training thread. You will get lots of support there!!!

So glad I found this board also. I think registering for the 1/2 and getting to go back to Disney will be a great motivation. :sunny:
