WDTC trip insurance?

yes you can decline it, i think it saves about $30-40/day depending on your package and # of people.

The trip insurance will cover you for medical problems. I work part time for a travel agency and for people who I plan once in a lifetime trips for, I tell them to take the insurance. These are clients who are taking their kids once and don't plan on going again and are spending big bucks.

A few years ago, I had clients all ready to go. Two weeks before they were sceduled to leave, the mother landed in the hospital with major emergency surgery. Ofcourse all of the money for the trip was paid. Since she had insurance, they family got everything back except the cost of the insurance (60 bucks) and the park hopper passes ( they didn't have the Ultimate Park Hopper) The passes were good on their next visit, tho, since they were park hoppers and stay good forver. The doctors did have to fill out forms to verify the illness/surgery.

Happily, they went the following year and had a great time.

Personally, I put my vacations together like most of us here on the DIS and don't pay insurance.

It really all depends on how much you are spending. My clients are spending so much that the ins. is just a drop in the bucket to them.

Isn't the Disney insurance about $30 per adult for the entire trip? I don't have a brochure in front of me but I believe it is charged for the adults only but covers the kids also involved in the trip.

I kinda agree it could depend on how much $$$ you're spending and how much risk is involved for you. When I was single I never purchased trip insurance BUT now that I have a family I have learned better (for us). It hasn't even been my kids that are the problem but DH. Out of our last 3 trips to WDW he came down with acute bronchitis on the first two and tore some ligaments in his leg 4 days before we left on the last one. We went ahead on every one of these trips anyway and he was a trouper (last one we rented an ECV as he couldn't walk!) but if I think trip insurance would be worth it for my peace of mind and ease of rescheduling.

Needless to say I now think trip insurance is a good idea. WDW vacations just aren't cheap!

They do NOT cover problems related to weather by the way.

The insurance is $33.95 per adult and covers any children 17 and under. If you have a pkg then the additional charge for insurance is worth it. Since you have to pay for the pkg before hand and if you cancel within x amount of days you will have penalties.

From the time you pay the final payment and the time you go anything can happen. Would you rather be out $33.95 per adult or be out a few hundred dollars.

Also if you purchase the air from Disney that is covered under the insurance also. If you are driving it will cover any delays that causes you to arrive later than your scheduled day.

I had a friend who had a trip planned a few years ago and a few days before their trip 2 of her kids came down with the chicken pox. The whole trip was cancelled and the only thing she was out was the insurance. They had the Ultimate park hoppers and air through Disney as they wanted a no worry vacation of booking everything separately.

Both trips we bought the insurance, for $60 we had peace of mind. Although we didn't use it we did have close calls both trips. The first trip we barely made it out of DTW, they closed the airport later in the day due to snow, our departure was sandwiched in between two big snow storms! The most recent trip my DS got sick two days before we flew, double ear infections and sinus infection. He was really sick and we weren't sure he could fly (thank goodness for strong antibiotics!). The insurance just saved us more worry.
