If smoking is the "gateway drug" to recreational drugs, then (at least for me) pins are the "gateway collector item" to WDCC sculptures! I must admit, I've visited some friends' houses and have seen these lovely creatures. Where do you all buy them? Is there a discount place that you go to? Is there a favorite place or two on line where you look? I am probably just going to focus on the villains.

For me it was the other way around WDCC sculputures were first, then wall art (serigraphs, cels, etc.) and finally pins.

Check out the Disney website for a link to the collectables area. I am a member of the WDCS and have several pieces. Depending on where you live, you can pick some up at a DS. They are also available at DL and WDW. There are many other dealers around the country that sell them, but don't be looking for them in discount places.

I am a member as well and have several. What got me started was the blue faery from Pinocchio. We started with the figurines and art and then came the pins. Just like daber. We have a collectable store that carries Disney figurines and we have spent some money!

They do get expensive so watch out and always have fun!

I can tell this is going to be pretty addictive - hopefully not just like my collection of pins.

That's why I want to be sure that I know the right price for things. I've heard mentioned the "Green Book." Is there some other means of assessing value? I don't want to have to buy a book because I know that books on collectibles become outdated pretty quickly.

Also, are there any on-line sources you turn to when you want to acquire a certain piece?

If you are wanting to start a collection of WDCC, (great aren't they??) and you are interested in maybe some older pieces or retired pieces, take a look on ebay at the WDCC pieces listed. Sometimes you can pick up some of the older ones at very good prices, sometimes even at 1/2 off. Not always mind you, but for the most part, it would be a start, plus a chance to look at some of what might be your favorite characters.

Also, I have a nice web address for a place that covers this subject quite well, not sure if it would be ok to post on here, so PM me if you like and I will pass it on.

don't know how legit it is(whether dis approved it or not) but the had some of the black and white ones in BJ's warehouse club in PA. depends where you live if you have a BJ's, but it wd be worth cking out if u do!

If you join the Walt Disney Classics Collector's Society ($50.00 for your membership and "free" membership figurine, Snow White) they will send you a "catalog" of sorts that has a complete listing of all WDCC pieces (past and present, convention and standard) including their RETAIL price.

Some of the higher-end TDS may have an extra "price list" available -- you could ask.

This at least tells you what the RETAIL price of a figure is, so you can judge whether you are getting a reasonable deal no matter where you purchase.

-- who is completely addicted to WDCC pieces and has populated 4 full-size cabinets so far, is working on #5 and just a got a #6 to start on!!! Woo hoo!
I would trade pins for Classics any day!
Ooo, will that get me kicked off the board? Tee hee :p

there is one nice "gift" shop here in Central PA that has the WDCC pieces. I dont believe they ever go on sale there--although sometimes the annimation cels do. (this is the type of place that sells Hummels, Crystal, Lladro, Lenox etc. ) I know the Disney Gallery Store in King of Prussia sells the pieces. I eyed up the Cinderella and Prince piece for years with DH emphatically saying NO each time we saw it. I ended up finding it on EBAY, brand new in the box through a dealer and paid over $100 less. It is my most favorite disney piece. it definintely helps to shop around!
