WDCC disaster!

5am on Friday morning I woke up to a huge crash, ran to the living room and found our case of WDCC Small World figures had COLLAPSED in on itself.

We lost 25 figures, two of which had just come in the mail hours before!! I keep telling myself that they are just things.. but gosh its been a heartbreaking experience! Word of warning to anyone using Ikea Detolf shelving to display collectables, do not overcrowd them! I have pictures of the massacre here: oh the horror!!

We googled "detolf" soon after this happened a found a few horror stories similar to ours, all with the same issue of those rubber stoppers slipping on this particular shelf. First thing we did was to unload our other two shelves. Now we only have 6 or 7 WDCC pieces per case, not taking this risk again until we find sturdier shelving!

do you have insurance and will it cover this?
you might need art & collectible coverage, as most home owners policies cover very little of this kind of stuff (I think mine will only cover $500).

No insurance on these unfortunately, home owners policy wouldn't cover it. If/when we decide to rebuild our collection we will consider art and collectible coverage
