WCC - scrap it, and if not, what?

DD has been saying for over a year that she would love to try WCC. She found some YouTube clips and thinks it looks like fun. I added it to my list of ADRs for this year, but having looked at the menus, there is really not much that appeals to us on either the a la carte or the skillet. I doubt it will go down well taking up a table for 2 fruit plates ...!

All our TS are OOP as we are on QSDP, but including WCC that give me 7 ressies for TS over 15 days. Keeping 5 works out to the same price as upgrading to the regular DDP, which I don't want to do and I am happy to keep one extra and pay for it anyway but one of my big reasons for loving the QSDP is that I CANNOT eat at a TS every day. It is just too much food and I find it too restrictive and will end up costing more because we will end up cancelling at least half of the TS as before. So this is what I have and why

  1. O'Hana breakfast (couldn't get a ressie last year and really want to try it)
  2. Crystal Palace - Breakfast (Favorite character meal for both of us - I like the early entry to MK)
  3. Crystal Palace - lunch (DD's favortie meal and restauarant)
  4. Whispering Canyon Cafe (Looks fun to try)
  5. House of Blues (something different and like the menu)
  6. Cape May Breakfast (Minnie is there!!! and so is Goofy - DD loves 'em)
  7. Chef Mickey - Breakfast (thinking of dropping this anyway since we have Cape May)

I really don't believe I am actually sitting the day before ADRs and asking other people to think for me. I have been playing with schedules for a few days now and can't think straight anymore. :headache:

Are you deciding between dropping Chef Mickey's or WCC? We do both each vacation. I think that the food is better at WCC but if you don't think that your family will eat anything there, I would drop it. It is fun and my family really enjoys it but it's not really fun if you are not eating the food.

And with regard to Chef Mickey's...you really are doing a lot of character meals so I don't know if you need to do this one. The food is just okay, IMO, so you are really going for the experience.

Maybe you could try something else? Would you add another TS meal for the experience or for the food?

It is a fun place to eat and I would hate for your daughter to miss out on it since she's wanted to go so badly. Are there any appetizers and / or desserts that appeal to you? You could order one or both of those and treat it as a light meal / snack / treat.

sorry if i missed this in your post ...

breakfast or dinner?

Sorry, should have said, breakfast or lunch. Lunch would suit better for the day I want to do it but breakfast may be the better menu for us.

We have done CM in the past and DD loved it. However it turns out that her motivation for going back is .... wait for it: Minnie is there! I personally thought the food is okay, service is on the lower side of okay because they seem to be more rushed there than at other Character Meals. I thought I would skip it since we are now doing Cape May and she will see Minnie there and also Goofy (who is not at any of the others we want to do). TBH I would not book CM if it were not for DD, but with the new info come to light I am willing to scrap it altogether since it has been done and we have never done Cape May.

WCC is just for the experience really, but to be realistic, we need to want to eat as well. :lmao: I guess we could save it for the next trip.

I know we are doing a lot of character meals but my reasons are:
DD is now 8 and I think the priority level of character meals will not be as high by the time we go again which will only be late next year or Easter the following year. I am a single mom and she is my only child. This is a surprise trip so I have to be careful about asking her questions. I am saved by the fact that she is a Disney Nut and talks about it on a daily basis (almost) so without her knowing I have been able to use her input in the planning ;)

I am not opposed to booking another meal in its place but don't have to. I would rather have good choices than just lots of them.

Yes, if I booked another TS it would be primarily for the experience in this case, although I don't want to go somewhere we dont like the food/menu so there is a practical element to it as well. We rarely eat out at home due to my heavy schedule so it is a bit of a novelty for her as well, but we prefer to be on the move and she enjoys the CS anyway so it isn't too big of an issue. I am open to suggestions - as long as my head can process them before ADRs tomorrow :rotfl2:

I wondered about that, but thought it may be unfair on the server to take up a table for a £25 dollar total for 2.

Another fun place to try, if you don't fancy WCC is 50's Prime Time. We have had two great meals there, and far preferred the food and the entertainment to WCC!

Did you like 50s? So many mixed reviews but lots of people have said it is great fun. To be fair, I usually disregard mixed reviews on account of the fact that I am known to sometimes have alternative taste .... :rolleyes1 I have some kind of mental block when it comes to DHS and after a few blah meals there, we arrange the day to leave the park before it's time to eat. I don't know what it is about DHS - I just seem to be incapable of sticking to my itinerary there and end up wandering around feeling frustrated and getting nothing done. So many people love it. I may post a thread inviting people to change my attitude.

Hmm this is a little tricky. If your daughter really wants to do it that badly, I would do I think. It is a LOT of fun, esp. for a kid. The food though, was not the greatest. I liked it, but compared to all the other things I could be getting; it was just average. Maybe if you went for breakfast though you could get the experience in, have it be cheaper, and have it be more food that you would eat.

Like others have said, maybe you could consider 50's. I've never been there, but it seems like their menu has more of a variety plus similiar entertainment. Maybe you could casually sneak it into a convo with your daughter to she what she thinks of it..

Good luck and have fun!

I think I am going to book it. I can always cancel in a few days if I decide it is not going to work. I really want to do it for her. I just found the menus posted on the The DIS and oddly, there is more on there than the allears menus suggest. I could actually do the lunch, not the skillet and order a kids meal for her and an appetizer and a salad for me. I also see they have those souvenir cups :yay: with the Tinkerbell glo clip. We decided last trip that we would continue our collection of souvenir mugs (which we only started at the end) when we returned. Do you think they would mind if we didn't have a very big meal? I am mindful that a server's table is his/her bread and butter and don't want to be inconsiderate. I am going for the last seating for lunch so hopefully it won't be so bad and they will be happy to have a simple order to clear everyone out

I had a nice experience 2 years ago and am going back for lunch in May. I really enjoyed the trout I ordered! So, maybe the food will be better than you expect. Another thing to consider is where you will be traveling from to get there. Your DD might enjoy the boat from MK or CR and the hotel is nice to visit if you haven't been.

FWIW, I have also enjoyed meals at 50s. ;) And a final suggestion since you like CP: an early ADR at Tusker House will get you early entry into AK and Daisy is there.

Personally, you could not pay DH and I to go back to the WCC. We found the food to be disgusting (and we love barbecue) and the service horrible (never did try dessert because after two hours we just wanted to get out of there and to the MK). From what I have heard, the antics are hit or miss depending on your server (or all servers working that night). The night we were there, we saw/heard none of the antics everyone talks about except for one "mild" singing of Happy Birthday (no pony race, no ketchup joke, etc.).

I am not "expecting" the food to be bad - I am just a bit of a selective eater so that is my main concern. I guess I can't knock it til I try it. Thanks for all your input.
Tick tock.......:rotfl2:
