Ok... I just realized if Gustav comes close, we may lose power and then we're all going to have to sit around and look at each other... too much family togetherness.....

Hi Monica.....I LOVE the chair and footstool and I like the black better too.

What great sweet 16 memories you have.....priceless!

We are ABSOLUTELY going to see each other while we're there.....I still have to get my goodbye hug from before disembarking....remember how we tried and it was just way too crowded and we never connected? I'm still waiting for that hug from you!

We'll be there right after you get back from Lisa's and you can show us all your pics of Ian and Sydney.

We'll be available from Friday, Sept 26.....checking into Staybridge Suites right down the road from DTD.....same place we stayed last time we met you at Fridays.....and available Sat 9/27 and Sun 9/28 and Monday 9/29 day. We want to do dinner alone together on Monday night. We check out on Tuesday 9/30. Remember that Epcot Food and Wine Fest will be starting when we get there. You may have to work. We're on vaca. So let us know when it's good to get together with you and where you would like to meet. We can do Fridays again or food at the hotel (order in of course), or pick some other spot convenient for you.

Lisa what are your and Darrell's plans? Are you coming to Orlando for the day or for the weekend? Do you want to get together with Monica and us too? The more, the merrier!
:goodvibes :goodvibes

We'll just be down for the day - either Saturday or Sunday is good for us.

Monica - are you available either of those days good for you?

Yes Deb... I am.. I am on the other side of Galveston Bay... from where the hurricane warnings are.

My sister and her husband insist it will not come here...

I'm trying to figure out if I'm really related to them...

I'm on my way out to get a phone charger and some water... and M&M's...

My sister insists on Doritos and Oreos as part of the hurricane rations :thumbsup2 (She's in Wilmington NC so has had a lot of practice.)

A flashlight is never a bad investment either:thumbsup2

Oh and hit the ATM - they told us cash was good to have on hand.

And the number one thing people forget to stock up on when buying hurricane supplies

toilet paper :rotfl2:

We had a lot of hurricane info on the news last week during Fay.

Keep trying and be flexible... you may get an opening... other wise... I hear Spoodles is a good choice..

Thanks Michelle, I'll have to keep checking and I'll look into Spoodles too.

My grandmother told my grandfather (mom's side) to bring home a Xmas tree (this was during the depression...) He went out for a few after work with the guys and totally forgot the tree... he bought the one in the bar and brought it home... but it was only 1/2 a tree...cut in half!!! :rotfl2: It was hanging on the wall of the bar!!! My grandmother had very smartly bought one off a guy who was selling them off a cart...

Oh that's just too funny! What great stories you have! Don't forget to pass them on or write them down.....such a legacy!:flower3:

Yes Deb... I am.. I am on the other side of Galveston Bay... from where the hurricane warnings are.

I thought so, now I'm really worried for you.

My sister and her husband insist it will not come here...

They said that about Katrina also. This time they're evacuating.

I just checked the map.....you are not in direct line with the eye......as of right now.....subject to possible change......but you are in direct line with the outer bands. I hope you're in a brick house with a basement.....oh, but you'll have to watch out for flooding......they say it could stall once it hits land.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm really related to them...

I would be too. That's beyond my comfort zone.

I'm on my way out to get a phone charger and some water... and M&M's...

And keep an eye on the local news broadcasts.....if they suggest you evacuate, I would strongly suggest it. I keep seeing that the Hurricane Center says this one is "Extremely Dangerous". Remember how bad Mississippi and Alabama were after Katrina.

Now they're saying that it could hit on Monday or Tuesday. I'm going to be praying for you Michelle. Keep us posted if you can.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: GO SPEED!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hugs to you and positive pixie dust that everything and everyone will be okay!

When are you planning to return home? Will you be able to travel?

Wow, you guys arrived in FL at just the wrong time. Last year there were hardly any hurricanes. Well, at least your sister can clue you in on anything you need to know.....since she's got lots of experience. Stay safe and be prepared!

Since the Dining Plan started it is getting harder and harder to get reservations. And resort guests can make reservations 180 days out - which I think is way too far!! How will I know what I want to eat 6 months out :confused3 Most days I can't even decide before leaving to go to work - probably why we eat out a lot :thumbsup2

Personally, I think it's taken the spontaneity out of WDW. Once upon a time you could decide on a whim where to eat, now you have to decide what you will want months in advance.

So, after building Tyler's excitement about going camping all summer and then postponing week after week because his dad & stepmom had trouble coordinating schedules with her sister's family so they could all camp together (her niece and nephew are near Tyler's age and he loves being with them), the sister and family are suddenly moving to Texas. Well, the move isn't sudden, but they bumped up the date for some reason. So since Tyler's dad didn't have to wait for them to be available for camping, he told me 2 weeks ago that this weekend would be the week and asked for an additional day with Tyler to extend their trip all weekend. Not a problem.

So Tyler's excitement level has been building, because they go to the same place whenever they camp, and he absolutely loves going. Well, when I picked Tyler up last Saturday, his dad told me he couldn't get a campsite, so he has to find another place. Um.......he seems to have forgotten that Labor Day weekend is a major camping weekend and campgrounds book up way in advance. Duh! I told him he'd better find something because Tyler's expecting to camp! He said if all else fails, they'll camp in the backyard. Well, OK, that can be fun, but he hadn't let Tyler know of this change, so I broke the news to him. He was a bit bummed, but not too much.

Then the good news, today he emailed me to tell me he was able to get a campsite after all at the original place (maybe they had a cancellation, I don't know), so I told Tyler the good news and he's ecstatic! Then dad tells me this is right next to a camp he went to as a kid from age 7-14 for TWO WEEKS every summer. He says his mom wants to pay to send Tyler there next year right after he turns 7. I appreciate her generosity, and I do understand his dad wanting Tyler to experience something he loved so much, but I just think 7 years old is way too young to be away for 2 weeks, especially a kid who doesn't adapt well to change, and has NEVER been away from both of us overnight at all. I agree that summer camp is such a great experience for kids, but not until he's a bit older, like 9 or 10. Trying to find a nice way to break this to his dad before dad's mom spends the money. I don't want to start an argument because I'm in favor of the idea, just not for a couple more years.

What's the youngest you all have sent kids to summer camp?

Our older son Tom was first away from our family when he was a Senior in high School--17 years old for a week at Boy Scout camp with his Troop.

Our younger son Ted was 14 when he had his first sleep-over at a friend's house for a couple nights when we went to PA for Tom's Lasik surgery. That spring he was gone for a week on a mission trip to Dominican Republic with friends from his school.

I think you have to know your kid and do what is right for HIM or HER. There is no RULE OF THUMB here. It takes Parental Detective Work.

We agree.

I had not thought about it until now, but perhaps this is part of why we do not go to WDW much any more. Last time we were there was a couple days before a cruise in 2006.

OK, I checked out the website and am very pleased (and a bit surprised) to see that it's a Christian camp! :goodvibes And I'm relieved to see that they have a "First Timer" camp that's only one week. BUT, I think I'd insist that Tyler first do either the 3 day "You and Me" camp where one parent comes, or the 4 day Family Camp for his first time. http://www.campwestminster.com/camp_inter.html Then, he'd at least be going to a familiar place next time for the one week First Timer camp. :thumbsup2 Is it reasonable for me to tell his dad that?

::yes:: YUP!! ::yes::

Thanks Jackie! I think I was 9 when I went to camp but it was only a week. I absolutely loved it and wished I could go every year! So I do want him to have this experience, but not 2 weeks at age 7. I'd be willing to do the family camp with him early in the summer and then let him go back for a week alone that same summer, then the following year he can do 2 weeks.

IF HE WANTS TO!

Well, that's interesting, I'd never heard that before. Good info to keep tucked away. :thumbsup2 Yeah, I forgot to post what his Dr. said. When she ran her finger over it, she asked him if it feels different than the rest of his leg and the told her he can't feel anything there. Since it's on his shin, and there's really nothing protecting the bone there, she says he probably whacked it hard enough so that it was actually likely a crush injury, meaning everything in there just gets smashed, including nerve endings. She says that type of injury can take many months to fully heal, and that eventually it will go away and the feeling will come back. Good grief!

Not meaning to scare you, but the sensation might not come back. If the crush injury was bad enough to damage the tissues enough to cause lots of scarring, the nerves cannot regrow through a tough scar.

I have an area of distorted sensation around my skin graft. I get deep pressure sensation but no light touch, therefore whenever it contacts anything the sensation is weird. Not bad. Not painful. Just weird.

Sometimes I also get tingles and twinges as the nerves try to regrow and bump into the scar. The Plastic Surgeon said that might last forever. Oh well. Knowing what it is makes it easier to ignore.

The knee works. I can do everything I want to do. I never liked to kneel so having the strange sensation when I kneel now is OK, because I don't kneel

Holly....Jaide was 9 when she first went and she loved it. Our summer camp (campfire) opens up to first graders....and we have thought about sending both girls next summer, so Taylor would be 7 and Jaide would be 11.

Would they be together? Or would they be in units far apart and not see each other all week?

Jan :earsgirl:

Hey Gaylean! :wave2: I'm trying to pop on here more regularly again. I have gotten so used to my sight as it is that I can read again which means I can post again!!! :)

How are you doing these days? :confused3

I totally agree :thumbsup2

Plus it seems like the menus are offering fewer and fewer choices. The fried camembert appetizer is no longer on the Prime Time menu :sad2:
