At the beach.....like 40 pages behind.....what have you guys been chatting about? Spent the day on the beach......Daniel goes back to Tech next weekend and I am so sad...It seems like just yesterday he came home for summer break and we went off on out Panama adventure...

This weekend it is just me and Annie (DD14) ... Having BBQ for dinner Yummy!!

yes, except I have a lovely one from our cruise with me holding a bottle of beer which is so much more me :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Kelly are you getting excited about school starting?

Will Z have to wear a uniform, or street clothes?

Molly is in uniform. We are doing our shopping tomorrow. Wilson just street clothes and fortunately he just doesn't care about clothes so nothing to buy for him :thumbsup2

Yes, and no. I'm so glad to get back to a real work schedule and finish my degree, but will be sad to see her gone all the time... and we are pretty bummed that we can't go to DL anymore during the mid-week mornings with her. No uniform, Calif. casual.

That's a really great idea Kelly! :thumbsup2 We rarely watch tv, but we do have 2 large wall maps (1 of the U.S. and 1 of the world) that Tyler like to look at and ask me questions, so maybe I can incorporate your A,B,C idea in a different way. :goodvibes

If you don't want to write on it or use pins, use little tiny colored post its.

You should be getting excited about MY wedding.

Drop off for first day of kindergarten, parent meeting and off to the courthouse for us.

Nope, the occasional word doesn't bother me. I even use foul language myself occasionally - because its occasional it can be very effective to get my point across to a predominantly male work force.

I spent 10 years in comedy clubs every night, so it was a real hassle for us to relearn how to speak without any colorful words added in.

There are some creepy clothes for young girls - I like little girls to look like little girls :yay: I find some of the girls bathing suits creepy. I find it creepy when little girls when itsy bitsy bikinis :scared1:

Zoe is covered from head to toe with rashguards.

Ian, I feel the same as you. I was disgusted last summer when I saw Tyler's then 6-year old girl cousin come to my dad's house wearing high heel sandals, makeup, and way too short mini-skirt with a tank top that was cut above her belly to show more skin. And here's what almost made me throw up: She said, "Don't I look sexy?" There's a country song called something like "I'm here for the party" and it has a part that goes something like "I wear my jeans a little tight just to watch the little boys come undone" and she seems to know exactly what that means. It's horrible. But her parents encourage this by how they treat her while preparing for beauty pagents. I caused a stir in the family when I asked her parents, "Um.....do you want her to be pregnant as a teenager or to be abducted by a pedafile?" Yeah, I should have kept my thoughts to myself, but I just couldn't because that would say I'm OK with a 6year old parading around like a sexy adult woman. It's very sad. :sad2:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

That's very sad. Tyler honestly believes that Mickey is bringing surprises to him every Saturday! :lmao: One time he got a Pirates of the Caribbean puzzle and just a couple days ago he saw that puzzle at Dollar Tree :rolleyes1 . He said, very excitedly, "Mom! You're NOT going to believe this!" Runs over, pulling me by the hand, to show me the puzzle that he got. "This is the puzzle I got from Mickey! Mickey must have gone shopping here!" :rotfl2: I told him, "Wow, that's cool!" ;)

Zoe does that too everytime the mailman brings her NickJr. magazine, "Wow, mom how did he know I wanted that!"

Our Shot putter who just came 4th (missed a bronze by exactly 1cm - 0.393700787 inches) was from Kamloops, BC. I grew up in Kamloops.

No I did not know the athlete.

And the Olympics are becoming quite the conversation piece up here - or rather our lack of production at them is.

I stayed in Kamloops when I toured with Jesus Christ Superstar in 1995, first time I'd had a buffalo burger.

My kids know that there are people in costumes. I also explained to them what those characters mean to adults. It is just fun and they never feel like they are babies for liking them. Some of their friends do but we explain to them that some kids are jealous.
I'm not sure about the clothing thing. Ethan couldn't care any less about his clothes and Brooke will only wear pretty dresses that aren't the style for her age, so my kids are strange I guess.
Happily our daughters still believe whole-heartedly despite their friends who have never been to DL or WDW trying to tell them otherwise.

We have a Xmas ornament on our tree that says "if you stop believing in Santa Claus all you get are ties and underwear". It is a mantra here. Plus I still get choked up when I read "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus".

There is magic if you believe. And it happens everyday.

fortunately nobody has ever said a word to Zoe, so she believes they are absolutely the real thing. And that the Broadway musicals are actors... Good thing since both Snow White and Cinderella will be here for Valentines Day (the real ones from DL - reserved them 14 months in advance, should be a hoot)

Now what's wrong with that age? I love living pay check to paycheck :lmao: and partying isn't horrible when I can do it! That's the difference between 20's and 30's. In your 20's you just do it. In your 30's you do it if you can and well I'm assuming it gets less and less as the decades go on :sad1:

Of course, I could write a dissertation on this answer, but you're right. Average age that partying ends is 24. Out of my several hundred immediate friends and family I know less than 10 people who would even have a glass of wine with dinner once in a while and never, never get drunk. I can't remember when anyone even ordered a drink at dinner at a restaurant. Of course, I know very few folks under 40 these days. :sad2: ... that is until I met this group of adventurers. Now, when I worked at clubs every night that was different!:upsidedow

When I'm having headaches, I CAN'T drink because it makes it worse for me. I haven't had one since July 30, so I figure I can safely drink tonight without triggering one, at least I hope. :thumbsup2
When will you know for sure about your job?

Alcohol exacerbates headaches like you can't believe! It's the sugar mostly.

I have no idea what's happening. Nan and Kelly are keeping it a secret from me.

All I know about is the ceremony, which is on September 4th.

I'm now trying to figure out what we are going to do for witnesses. Bribe people on the street?

Well, we hope we will be out of school and on the road quickly enough to get there.

This is where I think you have to be sensitive to the kid.

Our older son was "weirded out" by the reality of a huge mouse and would have NOTHING to do with the characters,

But when we told him it was a person in a costume like he did at home for Halloween he was very comfortable and we got GREAT photos.

If a kid is a realist and the adults keep saying that the characters are like that all the time, the kid thinks the adults are unreliable and stupid. Then they tell their friends that Disney is for babies.

The Realists are not lacking in imagination, they just know it is imagination, not real.

When this same son asked me a year later if Santa was really real, I asked him what he thought.

Without hesitation (he had obviously been thinking about it) he said "No, I think he is a pretend."

I said "You are right, he is a pretend, but everyone likes to pretend he is real, even grown-ups. Are you going to tell the other Kindergarteners?"

He said "NO!"

So, it was all good.

Jan :earsgirl:

so, right, every kid is so different the way they intake the world. We heard a great saying a few years ago, "I believe in Santa in my heart" and that is what Zoe says every time we see the store Santas.

Kelly, that's a great idea! I'll remember that idea for when my GD is a little older :) I have collected American quarters for some time, the ones that have a different state on each one. I thought it might be fun someday with a little one to match on to a map to learn where all the states are.

Kathe

That's a great idea.

OK, I was headed out the door an hour ago and got caught up in reading all the posts.

OLYMPIC FEVER!!!! I bought a badminton set today. Man was the Phelps swim amazing!!! GYMNASTICS made me want to get on the beam again... now we're watching Trampoline. Z starts Trampoline camp this fall.

Marilyn, saw the cycling. WOW, commentators here said the British were best in the world right now on the track.

Deborah, you sure are up late! Are you having another glass of wine? :rotfl2: I had lots of beer last night, stayed up until after 1:00am I think. So today I woke up in the morning for a bit and then went back to sleep until 3pm. VERY nice to sleep that long! :cloud9:

Hi to all, I spent a very leisurely day today. John ran out and did the shopping and errands while I was busy checking out excursions for the east and west cruise in 09......since all the ports and most excursions are up there already, I thought I would spend the day in planning mode. So many things to choose and so little time to do it all. I kept the Travel Channel on all day with Disney shows airing. They said the new ships are due in 2011 and 2012 not 10 and 11 like I thought. Oh well, one more year to wait. Glad I booked 09 already.

We got our champagne and I got my tiara out. I'll be wearing it tomorrow while toasting to the Champagne Girls once again. We will take pictures and I will post. Holly, beer is fine for you. Gaylean, I know you'll be drinking champagne. I'm even going to wear pink.

I'm watching preseason football again. The Jets with Farve against the Redskins. This should be a good season for the Jets.

I'm recording the Olympics. I can't wait for Michael Phelps to race again tonight. He's doing a relay with his team. I really hope he gets the gold. It'll be his last race. He's just amazing.

Today is a very good day......my uncle is home from the hospital. YEAH! What a rough month July was......mom's birthday and anniversary of her death and her baby brother, my favorite uncle, ends up in ICU. He was at a doctor's appointment and walking up a curb with a walker.....the wheel slipped on the curb and he fell flat on his back. Initially they said he only broke a rib and put him in the hospital, but then he kept fading in and out of conscisousness and they put him in ICU. He had partially collapsed lungs, kidney failure and an infection. But he's home now and he's all better today. I'm so thankful.

I'm working on weight loss now. I have started my new diet food from bistromd.com and I really like it. The food is sooooooo much better and the company seems to be better at customer service. I only get the 5 day plan with snacks and then on weekends I'm on my own to slack a little, but still keep my calorie count. I think I can do it long term if I stick to this plan. Soon I'll start back at the treadmill and ballet barre again.

I still have not smoked a cigarette since New Years Eve 2008!!!! I'm so proud of myself for keeping my committment. That's because I knew I could call Angie anytime and gain her support to keep me strong. It made all the difference in going the distance. Thank you so much Angie. I miss you and hope that you're well on your way to hitting the road and enjoying retirement.

John still smokes everyday, but not nearly as much as he smoked before we quit. He started at about 2-3 a day four months ago and I'm not sure how many he's up to now, but it's not 3 packs a day like it used to be. He doesn't smoke in front of me. He keeps saying that he knows he has to quit again, he'll do it when he's ready. He didn't have Angie as his supporter and mentor to keep him honest.

I'm so happy to be past the one year date of mom's death. It's a great relief. I was so depressed and grieving. I couldn't even get motivated to get up to hit the bathroom if I needed it. I would lay around and sleep alot and not get up. It was horrible. But like Nan says, you cry your tears and then pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again. I'm back to being busy and productive again. I have a lot of issues to deal with and many dilemmas to fix. It's good to be moving forward again instead of being stuck in one place.

OOOpppppsssssss.......long post......sorry, I stored it all up I guess!

Hi Deb!!       Miss you

Bethany Beach was beautiful today...You would have loved it!!

I stayed in Kamloops when I toured with Jesus Christ Superstar in 1995, first time I'd had a buffalo burger.

In 1995 Shannon and I were living in Kamloops. Didn't go see the play though. We were starving students at the time. I can remember having a whole $5 to our name for an entire month.

Buffalo burgers are pretty good aren't they? I love them but they are pricey. and of course healthier for you as they are naturally leaner cuts.

Well Deb, I usually only drink beer on Friday nights because Saturday is the only day of the week I don't have to get up early. Even if I have only one, it affects me in the morning. So I'll have a glass of diet cherry pepsi and just pretend it's something else! ;)

Deb, I'm so glad your uncle is home and better. What an ordeal he went through!

It's good to see you feeling so positive again. I missed your optimistic outlook here every day. I'm sure it was an awful month or two for you, but am glad to see you back. You're sounding like yourself again.

WAY TO GO on still not smoking! That's a long time, and we're all so proud of you! I wondered when I saw John smoking on deck 4, but didn't want to ask either of you. You deserve extra credit for sticking to it when he's smoking. Because even though he's not smoking around you, you still know he is and that makes it harder on you. GREAT JOB! :yay:

Your new diet program sounds like a great plan! I wish I could get motivated to do something, instead of watching myself gain more and more. Just getting motivated is hard by itself, so great job to you for getting back on track! :goodvibes

I ate lots of them while living in Wyoming for a short time. YUMMY!!!

On the way home now.

Deborah: Sorry about your Uncle

Jan
You did all of that stuff in one day?! Wow! I assumed it was to be over the whole weekend. What a whirlwind! But hopefully you can both relax tomorrow.

I wonder what Angie and Dennis are up to? Wonder if they are travelling in their motorhome and not able to get on the internet, or if they are just too busy.

I hope they are ok. I miss them,

Did you PM them? And Cork?
I don't know how to PM with the Raspberry yet, so I cannot do it. If you do, please tell them that they are missed ::yes::

Some folks may not even know we are still chatting.

Well, once again, when I picked Tyler up from his dad's, stepmom was out of sight. This makes 6 times now (twice a week, so three weeks) that I haven't seen her, or have only seen her stomping out of the room when I walk in. :rotfl: It makes me want to laugh more and more each time! I predict one more week of the cold shoulder before snapping out of it, because that's how long it lasted the last time. :lmao: Dad, on the other hand, is nicer than ever. Smiles, laughs, lots of sharing info about Tyler, etc. :thumbsup2 I'm sure stepmom is just thrilled to hear our happy conversations in the other room. :rotfl2:

OH.....GREAT NEWS! Tyler read his first book this weekend! He has the kindergarten through 2nd grade (I think) Hooked on Phonics at his dad's house and they started working on it about 1/2 way through kindergarten. Sometimes he brings it home to work on, but I think by that time he's ready for a break from it. Anyway, for the longest time, he couldn't even name all the letters on the letter flashcards. It was just about a month ago that he started being able to identify all letters, but still couldn't tell you what sound they made until just last week (well, most letters). This week, his dad said he read the first book in the set. He first thought Tyler may have just been memorizing the words, because of how well he did the first page, then his dad saw him stumble over a few words and listened as Tyler actually told him not to help him and then he was able to sound out the word himself.

This is truly amazing how quickly he's progressed in that area this month! And his OT has been having us practice writing for 5 minutes a day (because that's the limit of his frustration level before he wants to rip up the paper). It's tricky because his hand doesn't want to do what he knows it's supposed to. His dad said Tyler practiced for A HALF HOUR today, fully focused the whole time! I almost fell on the floor! With the help he'll be getting in special ed in 1st grade, I do believe he'll get caught up to grade level by the end of the school year!

Just watched an exciting 1500m freestyle swim final. 19 yr old Canadian not expected to medal wins a bronze.

Really great to see this young man compete the way he did.
