50 is young and all the good men will be getting rid of their starter wives by then!

Happily our daughters still believe whole-heartedly despite their friends who have never been to DL or WDW trying to tell them otherwise.
We have a Xmas ornament on our tree that says "if you stop believing in Santa Claus all you get are ties and underwear". It is a mantra here. Plus I still get choked up when I read "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus".
There is magic if you believe. And it happens everyday.
Nope. Relying on Shannon to keep me up to date. I did all the work pre-cruise, she can do it post-cruise.
Besides, it's football season - I've been busy screaming at the TV for the past 7 weeks.![]()
Just one of many reasons I love this man!![]()
Wow, you have a good memory! Yup, we dated from when I was about 16 - 24.Is that the old boy friend?
Ok I come back and boy am I glad I did!!
This phrase made me LOL!!!
Obviously it doesn't pertain to MY wife .... Case in point - I bet she says she didn't hear me actually LOL when she is in the same room as me as I read this!!

Come back with another glass after wii games. I think we may watch a movie.
Wow, you have a good memory! Yup, we dated from when I was about 16 - 24.He came up to visit me a while back, but I sort of backed off a bit because he was WAY too needy. And during that time when I backed off for about a week, he found a girlfriend and has been with her for about a month. He's very newly divorced, and still has bitter feelings, so I think he just wants somebody to help him get over that. I just didn't want to be that rebound person. But I got back in touch with him after a couple weeks because we've known each other for over 20 years, and had such great chemistry back then, I see no reason why we can't stay friends. It wasn't fun hearing about his girlfriend, how he told her just a couple weeks ago that he's falling in love with her, and was looking at engagement rings.
But I really think they're moving way too fast, too soon after an ugly divorce, and somehow have a feeling they won't last permanently.
Anyway, I just want to stay friends with him, keeping in touch whenever we can, because we have such a great history.![]()
Ooooh! I'm having beer too! LOTS tonight! What are you watching? I'm already on glass #2 - Ken's a gentleman, and has switched to his beer, so I can have a 3rd glass later one. Its Friday I can kick back and relax!![]()

Good point! And they should be financially secure by then, enough to take me on lots of Disney cruises!
Not like the 30ish boys living from paycheck to paycheck and still partying.
Hmmm ... I don't know quite how to broker this topic, but as I am not a parent it has been something I have thought about from time to time, usually when I am in WDW.
When I was a kid, children were dressed like children and not miniature adults.
Something that has sort of bothered me is the trend towards dressing children (especially little girls) like miniature adults. There is something that seems a bit to me like the sexualization of children, what with the heels and make-up and such I've seen. This would be on what I would judge as little girls of 8, 9, 10, 11 etc.
I find this all a bit disturbing, because it just somehow, to me seems wrong.
I'm not saying that I see it ALL the time, but have seen it enough that Sukie and I have discussed it.
Again, I apologize if I offend anyone. Not having children ourselves, or knowing anyone (in Chicago) with children, there's not really anyone I can ask.
In some ways we live a very sheltered existence in our own little world.
It is probable that I am out of touch with what goes on today.

I think it's just that he was really hurt by what caused the divorce, his wife cheated on him, and it was very ugly & bitter, and I think he thinks that having a girlfriend makes him feel better right now. New love to wipe out all the pain. I just don't think that works though, and didn't want to be the fill-in person for him.A friendship sounds perfect right now. He sounds like someone who needs a girlfriend all the time.
Nope you aren't out of touch, you are just voicing the opinion of the other side of the world, those of us that agree that kids should be kids as long as they can. I also find the trend disturbing. I'm so glad that my kiddos are happy being that and not trying to act or look older. That day will come soon enough.![]()

Yup! I'm happy with keeping him around as a friend, for sure. He's definitely a good guy.No beer for me, but after the wine there's a vodka mudshake in the fridge calling my name!
Sounds like you made the right choice with Steve (at least for this time in your life) I like your idea of a man who can take you on cruises later. I just want mine to take me on another one in 2010![]()

Ian,
As a father of an eight year old daughter, it is something that really bothers me too . . . I guess kids have always wanted to grow up sooner, and we adults always want to go back to childhood.
What makes me crazy with Sophia is that her aunt buys her this stuff . . . makeup, lip gloss, eye shadow, etc. I told her last time she did this that Sophia looked like a streetwalker!
I am no prude either - I just wish we could let kids be kids longer - but media has put the pressure on kids and families to "keep up".
It is fine for little girls to play dress-up, and pretend, but when it becomes an every day thing in dress and appearance I think it is wrong. What is the right age? I don't know . . .
I just know that it is tons harder to be the father of a little girl than it was to be the father of a boy.
