At our reunions they always send out lists to those they are in touch with asking if any of us know the "lost" classmates. So I am not surprised they tracked you down, that is what they are trying to do.

If you don't want to go, just say so. Don't try to hide, just reply in the negative. They don't need an excuse either. They may want a reason, but you don't have to give one.

Are you going to delete yourself from Facebook?

Jan :earsgirl:
Oh, I would never delete myself from anywhere, I love chatting too much! :rotfl2: No, I wrote her back and told her I didn't respond to the invite that came in the regular mail because it only said to respond if we're coming, which I'm not. :thumbsup2

Holly, if it's any consolation, up until I was about 7 years old or so, I wrote backwards, and could not tell the difference between the letters M and N and W, the letter E and the number 3, the letter S and the number 5.

In the third grade they wanted to put me in a special school because I was so far behind in reading (somewhere around the second half of the first grade or first half of the second grade).

I also was horrible at math.

In the second half of the third grade, they called my mother into school towards the end of the year because I tested out with the reading comprehension of junior year of high school.

I never got over the math difficulty, and believe it or not, still cannot multiply. I'm not kidding either, most of the multiplication tables are still a mystery to me.

However, I did develop coping mechanisms and made it through 2 semesters of statistics in university, and later created product pricing algorithms as part of my part of my job as a marketing product manager.

I guess I'm saying is that with love and patience things do get better, and perhaps Tyler may just be a diamond in the rough, just waiting to sparkle and shine.
Wow, that's great Ian! Way to go! :thumbsup2 Well, he'll be getting help starting in the fall by going to special ed classes for an hour a day most days a week, but I'm hoping the learning problems are related to all the other issues going on. Those other things make it too difficult to sit and learn. He's a very smart kid. In fact, listen to this! I was just reading his bedtime book, something about the history of firefighting all the way up through current stuff, and it said that Benjamin Franklin is who came up with the idea of the first fire department. Tyler then informed me that he invented electricity too. Now, I don't know if he did or not, but we all know about the experiment with electricity involving the key on the kite string and lightning. OK, that amazed me that a 6 year old would know that. THEN, the book was saying that before there were real fire departments, all firefighters were volunteers, including George Washington. He told me, "Oh, that must have been before he was president, no wait, president was the last thing he did, he was a general in the army before he was president". Now, I don't know if he has it backwards or not, but I was amazed again!

So I told him we just found something else he's good at -- history! Of course, then he asked, "What's history?" ;)

I'm just amazed at how much kids know at an early age that I didn't know until middle school. :rotfl2:

As you all might be able to tell from this spate of posting, this is the first time today I have gotten any time to myself.

I would say work is hard and stressful, except I'm too busy to notice.

I didn't even get to take 10 minutes for lunch today. I ended up eating at my desk and finishing my lunch in a meeting. I squeezed in all of 4 minutes today, which consisted of the trips to and from the microwave.

There is so much piled onto my team, that I think the trolly has officially arrived in Looneytown.

To top it off, I had 2 people out of work today, one of whom decided to send me an email at 6:45 yesterday evening to tell me she was taking a PTO day.

I am trying to be kind and think that there must have been some extenuating circumstances, but I usually do like to at least know the morning before, because I left work yesterday, having factored her in as part of the over plan.

On the plus side, I continue to take commuter rail home. I caught the 5:21 PM train and even with the 10 block walk to my house from the station, I was in the door at 6:45 PM, which is not bad at all.

But, now I'm home and unwinding a bit.
Ian, what a crappy day! When will they realize they can't keep piling the workload on you and your team. Good grief! You can only do so much. I hope your people who were off today show up tomorrow.

Just wait until you see us in September, your jaw will drop open. The final accoutrement is winging it's way to us from Vermont even as we speak.
:sad1: I'm going to have to wait for pictures. Too bad somebody couldn't rig up a webcam, with sound too. That would be SO COOL for the bunch of us who can't come!

Holy cow, it's so windy, Tyler's door just SLAMMED shut from the wind blowing in from his open windows. It made me jump a foot here in the kitchen! Guess I'd better shut his bedroom windows.

.....
I hope you mean Michelle's mother as mine has been dead for 5 years!!! ....
.
 SORRY.
Did not catch that in my proofreading. Yes, Michelle's Mom Barbara.

Not that I would not have liked to have met your Mum too, I bet she was a special lady like you.

Jan.

Quick drive-by:

I found out today that my car is totaled. I was given a preliminary figure for the dollar amount but it could change. It'll be a week or two before I get any money. Now I have to figure out what to do about a car, but I have a rental for now so I'm not under the gun to make a quick decision.

Jackie, have you heard anything yet?

Yeah, I'm totalled too. BUT they haven't called yet with the $$$, so I can't do any shopping yet. The car I want from CarMax is still available (a year newer than mine with half the milage). I did get some loan info from my credit union, so I had a place to start with figuring out how much I could take in a 60 month loan and keep my payments where I want them. Just waiting to hear about the $$ so I'll know what I'd have available for a downpayment. The car is in San Diego and they charge about $200 to bring it over for me to look at. I will be contacting my Toyota dealer also, but I didn't see anything on their website.

Cheri, when I get home I'll forward the e-mail from Ian with some consumer report info....I don't think I sent it to you yet.

Time to head home, maybe go for a swim at Pegs. :thumbsup2

Here is the final dress rehersal picture. It is so weird putting and seeing ones son in makeup ;) I'm heading out to drop them at practice for the night, I'll be back...

HOLLY: so great to read the result of the MD visit. The idea of tackling one issue at a time medicinally makes sense to me. I like that philosophy!

I take it Dad went along with the plan.

Will Tyler take medica(ion at school or only at home?

I for one am not bored.

I do remember candy stores, which were usually news/cigarette stores as well.

We also got milk delivered by the milkman, but it came in bottles.

My mother would make her list and then go "marketing," which mean going down to the main street that ran through the neighborhood where all of the stores were. She would drag a shopping cart behind her.

I haven't heard the word, "marketing" for grocery shopping in many years.

Was that used in the UK? Was it used anywhere else in the US, outside of NYC?

Ian,

I remember the term "going to market" which was used for grocery shopping.

Also remember milk being delivered to the house in glass bottles and in the winter time it had to be put in a special insulated box to keep it from freezing. Otherwise you had a "milk cycle" coming out of the top of the bottle.

Also remember my Grandmother ,who was very British, "going to market" every Friday and dragging her little roller cart behind her.

We also had a "City News Store" in which I think you could find any magazine that was ever published, along with cigars, cigarettes and adult toys and cards. (This store is still in business in my old home town of Mansfield, OH. and still selling the same things.) The news store was right next door to Coney Island where you could get 6 coney dogs for $1.00. They are also still open for business but the price has increased. (More like $1.00 each now)

How about the "Army - Navy Surplus Store" ? As a kid I spent hours in there looking at all the wonderful things one could by. Now its E-Bay and you have to know what you want.

Also remember cars that you could work on yourself without a $10,000.00 computer to tell what might be wrong with your car. (Had a 1954 Olds with a 325 ci engine and 4 barrel carb that got 25 mpg and gas was $ .30 to .32 a gallon.

Jan :earsgirl:
Tyler takes it at bedtime for a week, then after that it will be in the morning at breakfast and at bedtime.

His dad was not happy about the plan, but grudgingly went along with it. Funny thing was the doctor was reviewing all the questionnaires we each had to fill out over the past year from multiple doctors, and the school filled out the same. He pointed out that for every single form, the school and I answered about the same and our results showed the same significant areas of concern, but his dad's answers every time were completely different, showing no concerns. That gives the Dr. a true picture of his dad's denial, and in fact he asked him if he was in denial! :rotfl2: He did it in a very professional way though. He asked what we all think the reason might be for dad being the only one with a different result on each questionnaire. He asked, "Is it that the school and mom are both with him more hours a day? Is it that he just behaves differently at your house and doesn't display any of these symptoms with you? Or is it denial?" Dad bowed his head and quietly said, "Probably all of the above". :thumbsup2

Thank goodness, the Dr. told us he's basing his opinion on the majority.

Dr. had a nice way of expressing to dad just how much Tyler has to struggle to get through every minute of every single day. He related all of Tyler's symptoms to how dad would cope at work every day with all those things going on, and flat out told him Tyler's having a major struggle every day just to get through the day. I think that finally sunk in from dad, especially hearing if from a professional instead of always only hearing it from me.

I remember Army Navy Stores!

I also remember that my mother would give me 15 cents to get a slice of pizza and a coke.

Now, here's something funny, I grew up in the neighborhood next door to Coney Island and we called them "franks."
