OK now I get it....yes, we have done from Maine (near the Canadian border) down to Key West on the East coast....and just about every beach town in between. There are many beautiful spots. We have already traveled South across the US....separately when we were each single. I haven't been too far North across the states because it's cold up there. I have been across the middle of the US twice by car. John has also. We both did it while we were young and didn't know each other yet. Just recently, John and I together have been exploring California and loving it. So together we have pretty much covered the US.

How much of Europe have you and John done?

We have been to quite a few countries, but sometimes we didn't stay long at a particular place or were just passing through. Still so much to see and do and so little time left to do it. You see so little at any one time really too. One problem right now is the exchange rate with the Euro which makes European holidays much more expensive than they used to be. Eating out is expensive now. I think Italy is a place we would like to go back to. Plus now of course we have some newer countries to visit which used to be out of bounds, communist type places, and they are just beautiful. France of course is easy to get to but, though we do love it, it isn't our favourite place. The French in general aren't that keen on the Brits and sometimes it shows!! At least the Americans are friendly folk!!!

I'm sorry if you got a bit annoyed with my question Deb. I think I must have missed something earlier on. I thought with you saying John said only one cruise a year he was suggesting he fancied the second(or third) vacation in the year that he wanted to visit other places or do a different kind of vacation.

Well, if anyone is looking for a different vacation each year... it IS Elvisfest in Lake George this weekend!!!

I suppose aside from the exchange rates, the U.S. is a rather reasonable holiday. At least shopping is much cheaper as is entertainment. Plus, I imagine that the language must on the whole make things easier.

You have all of it right there Ian. The £/$ exchange rate is still very good for us, and we love the Americans. Though not as cheap as a few years ago, it is still good value. Just the flights prices that are the problem. Language is a big positive in the US for sure. The European countries think we should learn all the languages!!!! I do think we should try to learn the basics of the place we are visiting but they can be so unhelpful at times.

You really should experience some of the folk in Europe that we do. Lanzarote is terrible, and that is Spanish, not French. When we were last there there was an article in the paper about the bad service and attitude of the Lanzarotians(??) to visitors and telling them they should improve. Goodness me, without tourists they would be out of a job! The French don't like the Brits and vice versa so that is a problem in itself.

going back to sleep for a while.. Had to take 1/2 a pill... woke up with sciatic this morning...(what a pain in the A$$....) the 30 degree drop in temps caught up with me.

Just read that Sarah Palin stayed at the same hotel we had our Dismeet at... Wonder how much it cost to park her bus there!!!!

No Marilyn, I'm not annoyed at all.....please don't think that. I find it very amusing and curious that we were thinking the exact opposites since our perspectives are from each side of the pond. It made me laugh, actually.

I would love to do Italy too. I have already done Paris, Munich and Fussin in the Swiss Alps. John has been to London.....we both want to go there together. I was not impressed with Paris. I don't think the French like the Americans either.

John wants his balance back. Vacationing every anniversary in April and September. One a cruise with WDW added afterwards and one just WDW.....at least until we move to Orlando in 2013. Then we'll have to vacation on cruises and elsewhere.

When we cruise once a year and vacation only twice a year....John is happiest. We will have to find a new place to visit when we live in Orlando. Hilton Head in South Carolina was very very nice. We liked it a lot. Or we could just go down to Vero Beach in FL. We have lots of time to figure it out.

Oh, and I experienced lots of horrible European tourists when I lived in Bath, so Marilyn, I completely understand what you're saying.

I can speak a tiddly bit of school French and with most French they at least appreciate that. We have had different experiences of the French. Mainly very nice of course but sometimes...........

The problem is we just can't learn all the languages necessary to please all the people in all the countries we would like to visit. I hate that the Brits just expect people in other countries to learn English just for us, but at least the other country people could appreciate the problems it entails and be helpful. I do try to say the right words and smile, but can receive some extremely frosty and irritated looks and treatment.

Even though it's not very sunny out today, me and John are going to a Greek Festival in Stroudsburg this afternoon. Lots of good food to eat and music playing and crafts and jewelry to look at. I'm looking forward to going.

Ian, any date set yet for the hometown wedding? Me and John would love to be there. Let us know as plans progress.

John and I started planning our move to Orlando today. We were trying to decide the best way to pack out this house. We decided to empty the shed that I have with my mother's things in it and then pack what we are taking and put it in the shed.....little by little. Then what we are not taking will be left and we can ditch it all in one big dumpster. Instead of starting with throwing out things and being overwhelmed. I think we'll have less to take and more to throw out in the end. John came up with the idea. I like it.

We're keeping some furniture. John says all he wants is his knife collection and his dragon collection. I want our Disney collection and most of my turtle collection. I have way too many turtles to bring them all.

John says he expects to be a Florida resident by February 15th. He can retire as of February 2, 2013. That really only leaves us about a year and a half. It will go very quickly.

Sounds good to me. I've always wanted to go to Memphis but haven't made it there yet.
