A Saturday morning and I'm not working.
Did I mention yesterday that I had decided to go with a counter top roaster? I bought a Nesco Roaster yesterday, an 18 quart (17 and a bit liters to you metric folks). It's big enough to do a 22 pound (10 kilo) turkey, so it will be plenty big enough for the 16 to 18 pounder I'm getting.
I do like the fact that it comes with a rack with long lifting handles.
(I know it's not as glamourous as dresses and Christmas ornaments)
It will be an interesting experiment. If this works out, it's going to be a really big help in the kitchen.
I'm exhausted and frazzled every year for a number of reasons.
- In the 30 minutes after the time the turkey comes out of the oven and rests I have to:
- Make the gravy (making a mess in the process)
- Throw side dishes in various waming devices and of course 30 minutes is not long enough to really heat up some of the sides, and I only have 1 microwave
- While I'm making the gravy I also have to make the brussel sprouts which can't be prepared ahead
- Everyone is crammed in the kitchen getting in my way and for the life of me I don't understand why they can't just go into either of the two front rooms
So, this roaster may actually allow me to be a tiny bit more organized and relaxed.
Oh, and the head count has gone up to 10 people, so now the dining table has to be moved out of the dining room into the front parlor, and we need the additional folding table.
