We had a great time at Chuck E. Cheese! Tyler's friend Celes came with her mom . . .

. . . Her mom lost her job about a month ago, so I treated . . .
That's so very thoughtful of you.

. . . Cost: I know DCL is one of the most expensive ships out there, but I felt like it is more all inclusive. I really felt like I was dinged every time I turned around on NCL. I would rather pay it all up front and then cruise more openly than worry about charges as we go.

. . . Ports: loved the Alaska cruise. Never wanted to do one, but when you win one, can’t say no! All the towns were great. The shopping was fun. The scenery was incredible.

. . . Juneau: wished we had more time there….would have loved to have gone to the Mendenhall Glacier but we didn’t have time.

. . . Skagway: loved the cute old town…..lots of history there. Town had 5 ships in the day we were there so really crowded.
Kaylee,

I enjoyed your trip report. Thank you for sharing. Congratulations on winning the cruise!

We got tired of waiting for DCL to go to Alaska, so in May we went there on HAL.

Juneau: We went to the Mendenhall Glacier, and loved it. I suggest going there next time if you can.

Skagway: We went on on the White Pass & Yukon Route railway, which we highly recommend.

You're right that DCL is very expensive. I kept track of our expenses, and even with the charges for things like soda, our Alaska cruise it was much less per day per person than on Disney. Plus we ended up getting a veranda suite for about the cost of a Cat 9 on DCL.

We did the railway and were in awe the whole time! except those bridges, :scared1:

Interesting about the cost comparison. I wondered about that....but since ours was essentially "free" we weren't able to do a realistic comparison. Plus we only cruised in verandahs on DCL and this was an inside cabin.

As my mom says, gotta leave something for next time so...guess we have to go back to see the mendenhall!

Not really, I just wanted to get the kids together and have a fun time. They hadn't seen each other since the end of May and my house was too messy to invite them over to play.

Kaylee, I loved hearing about your Alaskan cruise! How did you win it? Congrats! :goodvibes As much as I don't like FB, the urge to see your pics will lure me over there. ;) I still have trouble figuring out how to maneuver around over there, but hopefully I can find your pics. :thumbsup2

Glad to hear you went on the railway. When we went, we saw a black bear and her cub. Awesome.

We had a great time at the Mendenhall. It is part of the Tongass National Forest, and it has an excellent visitor center with interactive exhibits that the girls would surely like. There are walking trails that go to the water's edge, and near a waterfall. We were with a family with two kids, who thought it was a hoot to pick up chunks of ice and throw them into the water.

In recent years, the Mendenhall Glacier has been retreating at a rate of 600 feet per year (compared to the historical rate of 60 feet per year). When we were there, the rangers at the visitor center would not actually say "global warming," but they did acknowledge some changes in the climate. Perhaps that was a carry-over from the last administration.

Mendenhall is something I think you would enjoy.

Not talking to anyone? We just got back from our cruise today....it was wonderful! HOT, though! St. Thomas was beautiful.

Connie

Connie...

Nan and I are in a "race" to see who will hit 10,000 posts first... so she wants me to shut up and let her win...

But I also peruse other threads so she's toast... :rotfl:

When we were in Tennessee, Tyler's 8-yr old cousin Elizabeth noticed the Mickey stuff all over our car and asked, "So.....Just why exactly do you like Mickey Mouse so much anyway?" I told her because he's just fun. She said, "Well, you do know he's not real, don't you?" Tyler said, "Yes he is real!" She said, "Tyler, it's just somebody wearing a costume....Didn't you know that?" Tyler told her, "Well, he's real in our hearts, so that's all that matters" and of course I backed him up on that. She just looked at both of us like we were nuts! :rotfl2:
