It makes me sad that not very many people are here today. I hope there's more conversation tomorrow because 7 out of 8 attorneys at work will be out of the office and he's leaving early! Our office manager already told me to bring a book or something to do!

Oh and with your BBQ... The only thing I could think of with the Vicars Garden is Bridget Jone's Diary when they had the Tarts and Vicars party...but it got changed...

I've been busy planning a diving trip for August. I'm going to the FL Keys (Key Largo) to dive for 4 days and then down to Key West for a couple of days. I have a friend in Indianapolis that I dive with so we're going together. It's a risk to plan a trip to FL in August, I know, but we just decided to throw caution to the winds and go for it!

The monsoon looks like it's getting a little closer each day. Today I could see some really big thunder heads off in the east and it's been cloudier each day for the past few days. Not sure when the rain will start, but at least the clouds block the sun and it seems a little cooler.

We don't think it's a trip to the river without the monsoons. Of course it is better if we aren't on the water in a house boat I'm sure your trip to FL will be fine. We haven't turned our air on in two days since it has only been 80

You know one of the guys who reports to me (who turned 24 yesterday) assumed that I said "groovy" in my day. I told him that no one said groovy.

However, I did say, "far out."

Am I the only person on this board, whose mother, when I did not want to swallow pills told me that I had better swallow it or she would smack me so hard, it would go down whether I wanted to swallow it or not? My mother never coaxed or cajoled us into doing anything.

Some mothers read Dr. Spock. My mother read "The Art of War."

I guess my mom was just a zero tolerance, take no prisoners sort of gal.

First apartment, in San Diego no less, was $79.00 per month and that included utilites. Then move to a two bedroom house for $75.00 but had to pay the utilities. Then bought our first home in SD with one of the last %4.75 loans for a BIG $115.00 per month mortgage. That house was just off Mission Bay in San Diego and can only dream of the price that 1/2 acre lot would sell for now. Why is hind sight always better? Gas was also .32.9 per gallon and if you were short your local gas station would run a tab if your were a regular customer.

What a story you have to tell about you first house! I remember the 33¢/gal gas, too. I remember a friend of my parents had a 65 or 66 Mustang (new). She was over visiting one evening and said I could take her car out to cruise (or what we called "drag the gut"). Was I excited! I remember picking up a couple of friends and we drove all around, then went to the Giant gas station and put in a dollar's worth to fill it back up to where it was when we started!

Alice was really nice...She turned 40 on the cruise and she and Mike got to sound the horn on the Magic. I asked how they had arranged this and theu said they were not allowed to say??

I know people that got to do that on our cruise...all they did was ask (in advance) and it was arranged.

You know, I thought of that on the last day, that since I had my birthday on the ship, maybe I could have asked and gotten to sound the horn. I had a feeling it was one of those things that you just have to ask for--rats! I missed my chance!

Mine are a bit less than $200/month. But then again, it's just me & Tyler, so that makes a difference. And the cost of living being different in different states helps too. I think it's so interesting to see the differences in costs in other places. Makes me very grateful for my bills!

Wow, Holly, even in the winter months your utilities are under $200? I would think with the Michigan winters you'd really get slammed!

Vanessa wrote us a long letter and left it in her room. She told me as she got on the airplane where to find the letter. Gretchen and I decided to wait till Annie, Don and Daniel get home from camping on Sunday so we can all read it together. I know I will cry and by Sunday I should be more able to control my emotions.

Didn't participate, but was a very interested spectator! Summer of Love, man! 1967! That was my year!!!!

That's how my mom was. But we used to have those orange aspirins that tasted so good you wanted to eat them even when you didn't have a fever.

When one of my older brothers was about 5 he was at a friends house. He and his friend found two bottles of the orange baby aspirins. They each ate an entire bottle. When the mom figured it out she called my mom.

My mom called the doctor and he said to stick her finger down his throat so he would throw up. Well he bit my mom. She called the doctor again and he said to mix up mustard and water and make him drink it. Well he LIKED that and asked for more. So my mom called the doctor again and he said she would have to bring him to the hospital and have his stomach pumped.

She put him in her brand new car and YUP....the mustard started to work and he threw up all over her BRAND NEW CAR!! Mustard and Orange Aspirin...SO GROSS!!!

My mom wasn't quite that tough, but when she said we had to do something, it wasn't open for discussion! She didn't tolerate a smart mouth, either. I remember getting my face slapped a couple of times! I guess that sounds harsh by today's standards, but I have always appreciated that she and my dad valued good manners and taught us how to behave in public.
