Ways to make some extra money?

As a newly single mom of 2 I am attempting to adjust to the financial pinch of both my new situation and the economy. Does anyone have any ideas of how one could make some extra cash on a regular basis? Preferrably from home... I'm a teacher... I have 2 boys who are home with me all week and weekends we flip flop between us and their dad. I have them 2 nights a week and he has them the other 3. Any ideas from anyone?? All help is appreciated!

My brothers GF is doing medical tests. Before you laugh she is making close to 1000 for some of them. It does involved staying overnights, lots of blood draws, etc. However her EX has stopped paying child support so she is doing everything she can to keep her house.

Waitress! You'd have to find someone understanding since you'd only be available every other weekend. At a nicer place, you can make some decent money on a Fri. or Sat. night.

I agree with akenaten private tutoring could be good way to earn money. My aunt who was teacher did part time work with a tutoring services that offered SAT/ACT prep days to high school students. Another great way to earn extra money is to do temp/part time janitor work for a cleaning service. I did this in college a few times. I worked with service 3 days a week.

*Bump* Anyone have any "work from home" type of things??? I thought about waitressing but the last time I tried to get a job doing that I was told that I was too educated for it and/ or too old to train (I was like 25 I think)... I'm not sure what kind of tutoring I could do and/or how much I would even charge to begin with... but its something to look into. And as for medical testing, I've looked into it before and there's nothing in this area. All good ideas though, so thank you.

What grades do you teach? My 9-year old DD has a math tutor and we pay her $20 per one-hour session. I have heard that it's a bargain. You can contract other teachers at your school if they have students who need help or you can post at your local grocery store bulletin boards or maybe even on Craigslist if you have one for your area. My DD's tutor comes to our house, but you can also tutor at your own home or at the local library. We go to the library when it's really hot as our a/c is only a window unit.

You can become a ChaCha Guide. I do that part time. It isn't GREAT money, but it IS extra income!

I have been looking for this type of extra income as well, but it has not been easy to find something from home that is not a scam.

I teach High school age and am qualified/ licensed to teach both Art and English. I'm not interested in giving art lessons though because people often have unrealistic expectations and then get upset or disappointed when they don't see the outcome they wanted.

I tried this a year or so ago but for some reason didn't get far... I honestly don't remember why.

You can tutor from your house. Absolutely. In fact, my daughter's old 1st grade teacher recently quit teaching to stay at home with her baby and all she does now is tutor from her house so she can be with her baby. She charges $35 an hour. She tutors elementary level, and there is a HUGE demand for that around here. I bet you are trained to do more than English and Art, right? Plus, you probably have the patience to deal with other levels, too. Good luck!
