Is there a way to work around the issues with the thermostat at AoA?

I'm not thrilled about learning the A/C shuts off in the room when no motion is detected. When I am sleeping, I want the room kept cool.

Another idea that looks great on paper, terrible in execution. :rolleyes2

So how can we work around it to keep the room cool all the time?

Make sure it actually works in the first place!! I stayed there in December and we dropped our stuff and ran off to the parks. When we came back late after MVMCP we realized the AC didn't work!! It was 1 am and my son was ready to crash. They offered to send somebody from EPCOT to come fix it but it would take an hour!! haha We ended up sleeping with box fans in our room!!! Totally my fault for not checking earlier but I would have thought a new resort would have working AC's! I think I read something about having a balloon tied up in front of a sensor some where or hold down a combo of buttons to override the system, but it only works for 24 hours. I'll see if I can go back and find it if somebody doesn't post it here!

Bring or buy a balloon and tie it to a chair near the thermostat or sensor. It will keep swaying showing motion and therefore keep the air running. We did this on our last trip and it worked great.:woohoo:

Thanks. :) I will first check to make sure it works and then purchase a balloon our first night. :wizard:

We just left there on Saturday GO BUY LYSOL NOW and spray your room especially if you are in Nemo suites.... there is a HORRID stomach virus going around that hotel even if the staff tells you there is not... my entire family of 8 was down for more than 2 days and had to extend our stay..
when we called to ask for our room to be sprayed they sent the housekeeping management to talk to us directly and they flat out admitted the ONLY thing they do for mattresses is linen changes (nothing for couches).........
considering my two nieces threw up ( A LOT) in two different beds in their suite that is disgusting

and to answer your question about the thermostat..(my husband sells those things for a living) there is NO WAY around it. It doesnt just detect motion it has to be body heat motion.. as in something living like pets or people sorry :guilty:

IMO this resort was a BIG waste of money on Disney's part with the thermostats and 2nd bathroom. We NOT once used the extra bathroom and would have loved a wall for privacy where the Murphy bed is. Having stayed in the family suites at All star Music I was expecting these to be MUCH bigger the pictures on Disney's site are so misleading about that murphy bed area being secluded

We're staying in a LM room.

Sorry you were all sick on vacation. That is miserable. :crowded:

Yup this will do it.

At work we got our secretary a nice gift basket with a couple of balloons on the handle for secretaries week. I believe the alarm went off 3 times that night before they figured it out!:lmao:

The balloon DOES NOT work at AoA. It takes someone actually getting up in the night and moving around. The baloon is not enough motion. It works at the older resorts but not AoA. We had maintinance bypass ours and set it to manual mode. They had to come in every third day to do it, but it kept our room at a constant temp. We have allergies and athsma in our family so it is vital that we are cool to sleep and that air is moving. If you have similar issues just call and ask. They will note it on your reservation and send someone to your room as soon as you check in to take care of it.

You shouldn't have to have maintenance come in and fix it. It should have been done correctly at installation. :headache:

Unfortunately, this is the way they are supposed to work. They have traded guest comfort to save a buck. I would call and complain each and every time. You might as well be comfortable in the hotel room that you paid for...

Calling doesn't get you anywhere but a vast call center. I will stop at the front desk every single day if need be.

Ugh. This resort is sounding worse and worse.

ITA. I hate that they have chosen to do this. The one night we forgot to call and have it reset was misreable. I got up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. There is no reason anyone should have that hape every night in a hotel. I hope that if enough people complain, they will change the way they are doing things. I am glad I knew about requesting a bypass or we would have been miserable all week. I feel bad for people who don't know where to get this kind of info. I would never dream that I would need to actually request that the AC work like it was supposed to if not for reading it here.

I have bypassed the motion sensor for a day or two at Coronado Springs. I would give it a try at AoA to see if it works there...

Push the power and down arrow at the same time and "bp" should appear on the temp display. This should work for 24-48 hours if you do it right.

We have stayed both places, and it doesn't work at AoA. The thermostats are different. The ONLY way to bypass it is to have matinence come in. They have to take the panel off and use a sepecial computerized switch on something inside the unit. the attach it and it "talks" to the unit, telling it to go into manual mode. After 3 days, it reverts back and the process has to be repeated.

Good to know for the future. I wasn't sure what type of thermostat AoA used since I haven't stayed there yet. For most other resorts the bypass works.

I really didn't notice a problem when we were there in October. It was in the low 90's the entire week and once we were in for the night the air cooled the room quickly and we were fine. I am very hot natured, and I was comfortable. Even the one day we came back to hang out in the middle of the day was good.

May notice a bit of difference in the summer months, but just talk to someone at the desk. They were very helpful every time I was there with a question or to pay on my charges.;)

We were there in November and definitely had issues. It was in the 80's outside and when we woke up sweaty the theromostat said 79. We had is set to 70.

This problem was mentioned right when AoA opened. Someone stated that Disney used building materials that were meant to keep the rooms cooler, with less need of the air-conditioning. So that is why you can't override the air as you can at other resorts. They didn't think there would be a reason to. Apparently the building materials are not doing the job they were intended to do.

Or, it's Florida, especially in the summer. No matter what kind of building materials they use, you *need* A/C 8 months out of the year.

We stayed in LK Bldg 10 in Dec, and the thermostat worked like any other thermostat. Maybe because the LK buildings are newer?

However, we were never able to find a happy temperature. It either seemed to be stuffy or freezing.
