Late last September, soon after George W. said "take your family to Disney World," all the pieces fell together for us to take a Thursday-Sunday trip in early December. We got good plane fare, an AP rate for Poly GV concierge, and I used my last two personal days (so now I have none through June!) to go. Kids teachers were OK with it, so off we went!
We were picked up at 3:45 AM on 12/6. We had a limo take us up to Detroit airport so we wouldn't have to worry about parking since we were coming in late on return. We got there about 4:45, two hours early. Did curbside check in, got boarding passes there. Security was thorough but not crowded that early. Were almost alone at the gate for 1/2 hour before people started trickling in. Flew out at 6:45. Our connection in Atlanta was delayed because they had no lights in the thing going out to the plane, but we got to MCO a little after noon. TTC picked us up and we were off to the Poly.
When we said we were concierge the guys at the curb called and said our room was ready (it was 1PM) and took us there first! We switched to shorts and DH gave me a beautiful necklace as a gift for planning our 3rd cool Disney trip! He's a sweetie but I get all my info here!
Checked in and got our CP passes for Friday night. I didn't want to use a day on their hoppers (I had bought my AP at the airport) so we resort hopped to look at the decorations. First we went to the GF and saw the gingerbread house and the tree. The new pool looks cool. Then took the monorail to MK and the boat to WL to see that. We have a DVC add on at VWL and it looks great for the holidays! Then a bus back to TTC and walk to the Poly.
We ate at concierge and off to MVMCP. Got there at 6 and were sent to tomorrowland with our wristbands. Boy did I love MK at Christmas! This was my goal, to see the decorations, and I was blown away by the tree, the snow, everything!!! We walked on Buzz 2x, then babyswapped with the girls on Space Mt. practically walking on. Only saw one show--Twas the Night Before Christmas--and switched to the early parade in my plans because we were getting tired. Got our pic taken, walked on Splash and BTMRR. Also did Dumbo (love the santa hats!), walked on Peter Pan--our timing was just superb all night and no long waits. Saw the fireworks, got our cookies and hot chocolate--love standing in the snow in shorts (you don't DO that in Ohio!) During the show at 10:30 the kids were all nodding off, so DH took them back to the Poly and I shopped for 1/2 hour, but they all wanted to swim once I got back--a little too nippy for me to swim but they had fun.
We slept until 9:45 on Friday--unheard of at WDW--but I'd promised Dh this was NOT a commando mode trip, we were coming back in July so we didn't have to do everything. DD#1 got in trouble in the lounge for not listening (she's 9 1/2) so she didn't get to swim--DH took her to Epcot instead. I spent a wonderful 90 minutes in the pool with DS (3) and DD#2 (6 1/2). Got DS a life jacket and he loved the slide. I kept thinking what class I was missing while I was in the nice, warm sun and pool! We got out and after we got dressed we went and sat in hammocks for 1/2 hour! It was glorious. After DH and DD#1 got back we went to Epcot. We did Test Track and then power shopped (with our CP discount) before our 4:30 San Angel PS. Dinner was great, then we hustled over to the line for CP, which was quite long even for people with dinner passes! I really, really liked CP. Phylicia Rashad narrated. DD#2's class was doing a Christmas around the world unit and she was missing ITaly and Germany, so we went to Italy and listeded to La Befana (sp?) talk, then to Germany. Also looked around the United Kingdom and checked out the archway and the absolutely GORGEOUS tree. Did more power shopping (sweatshirts and the CP CD) and had a decent spot for Illuminations.
Part II tomorrow.
