Waxing - How long has it been around?

I admit, I'm not a high-maintenance chick, but for the past couple years, I've been getting my eyebrows waxed.

I'm just wondering, when exactly did waxing become THE thing to do? I don't ever recall anyone waxing when I was in high school, or even in my 20's for that matter.

I want to know when waxing really came along.

I'm 38 and I waxed in high school...so I don't know when it started but I did it then!

i believe i saw on the history channel, the ancient egyptians or maybe it was the sumerians that started it. but it didnt really take off until the karate kid came out.

My waxer is Assyrian and she says that it was something that always existed in their culture (she even remembers her grandmother doing it).
