From a beach rookie:

What are the waves like at Hilton Head? I've heard that it's shallow quite a ways out, but can kids body surf? Jet ski? Windsurf?

TIA

The waves are a good size. You can body surf, boogie board, etc. I've never seen any windsurfing or jet skiing and we've been there at least 3 times over the last 5 years all during peak times.

At least at the beach near the Disney resort I've never seen any jet skis or wind surfers. There are cats and sailfish for rent nearby though. Wind surfing would be great- jet skis would have to watch carefully for low tide sand bars.

At low tide, you can easily wade out 50-100 yards from the beach (nice white sand) and still be comfortable with the ocean depth.

Boogie boards and body surfing are great in the usual waves. if there are off-shore storms, the waves will be larger.

We just returned to our villa from the beach. Ocean temps are 84 right now!

We just returned from HH today after spending an incredible 8 days. The weather was absolutely perfect.

The waves were not high at all. The closer you are to shore the more likely you are to benefit with the boogie board.

What waves? Compared to our Southern California waves Hilton Head has no waves. We just returned from HH on June 25. During our 6 day stay I never saw any waves at the Disney Beach House area that could be ridden on a boogie board or otherwise even by a child. DW says to bring a raft and just float in the water.
