Waterproof P&S

Can anyone recommend a solid, well rounded, waterproof point and shoot? I don't need anything fancy, I just want to stop taking pictures from the shore. My kids are learning to swim in the deep end, I want to take pictures of them doing it. We go tubbing and rafting, and I want something I can take without fear. I could get a house for my camera, but it's just too much to take. I'd rather have a small little bitty for this. Something I can strap to my wrist and easily swim with. Were my phone waterproof, I would just use it. Simple -no muss, no fuss, as good quality photos as one can get this way.

I am using an older version of the Olympus TG-320 14 MP Tough Series Camera for my trip to Playa del Carmen last September and it held up pretty good. I paid less that $150 for it.

There are a LOT of negative reviews about the camera on Amazon. It's only received 3 1/2 stars. While I don't need anything fancy I also do not want to shell out the dough and have the camera not work after using it for it's intended purposes.

Take a look at the Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS 12.0 MP Digital Camera. The reviews are better.

*LOVE IT!!!* If I took this camera, I just may be able to leave my other camera at home and carry only one. I'm almost sold, but here's my question...

How does it do in low-light/overcast conditions? The pictures when the sun is shining are beautiful and crisp but I haven't seen any of night time, low light, indoor, or cloudy conditions. Of course this is only important if I plan to leave the other camera at home, but lugging around 1 camera is better than 2!

The problem with the waterproof cameras, is the sideways lens in the slim package only as enough room for a small aperature...which is bad for low light pictures. As High ISO performance increases, there will be incremental improvements.

FWIW, you can buy waterproof enclosures for good point and shoots like the Canon s100 and Sony RX100 but they are more bulky and expensive.

I have the same question i want a waterproof camera for my trip in July. I think for me just based on research and flickr browsing its between the Canon d20, Nikon aw100 and the Pentax wg-3 out next week.

Justakid - have you bought your waterproof camera yet? what did you get?

My cousin ran over her phone with her jeep and only broke the front cover plate of the case. They really work.

I rented the canon d10 (or d20, i cant remember off hand, but it was one of that series) for our Hawaiian holiday back in December. I honestly loved the little thing and will probably buy one myself.

On that holiday I used a combo of the canon, my iPhone and my Nikon d3.

If you haven't purchased yet, I would take a hard look at the Pentax WG-3 GPS. Its being shipped this week. Its one of the few ruggedized waterproof cameras with an f2 (f2-4.9). This should help with the lowlight issues. I like bells and whistles and thats why I recommend the GPS version.
