OK first off sorry to anyone that actually likes those watershoes , but they are pretty fugly.

Are shoes needed? For the heat or for rough ground?

Would sport sandles work?
Anything else?

Do you wear them right on the slides?

You can't wear any kind of sandle on the water rides. I don't like to wear the water shoes either so I just wear some flip flops and take them off and hold them while on the rides. It has always worked fine for me and my feet aren't sore at the end of the day.

My DS11 has 2 severe gashes in his foot from not having water shoes on in the Typhoon lagoon wave pool on Sunday. I saw so many people walking out bleeding that it was getting scary. You need something that will protect all sides of your foot.

Blizzard beach is so stark white and blindingly hot on the pavement you can get burns on your feet.

Water shoes are horrible, uncomfortable, and yuckky in the real world but at the water parks they are needed!!!

water shoes. If you ever go canoeing or kayaking in rocky rivers you will understand the value. They are also useful in water parks when it's 95 degrees outside.

Water shoes are utilitarian. There are a lot of less attractive things walking around a water park.

Haha point taken!

How do they decide what is a water shoe and what is a sandle? My sport sandles are as soft as a water shoe

Sperry and Keen brands both have some shoes that work well, but I ditto the water shoes, they are useful and easy, they are not made to be cute. I only wear them at water parks or snorkeling.

I recommend a pair of these (the pic is of men's sandals, they make women's too)

I have been wearing Teva Hurricane XLT sandals for years. They are great for the water parks because you can wear in them in and out of the water and you can see how comfortable they look right? They are very supportive and just overall wonderful and comfortable shoes. We go to the parks multiple times per week and I wear these shoes

They make them in a variety of colors including black and they look very nice with clothing OR swimsuits ;)

We would never walk around barefoot. The pavement is too hot and your feet would get scratched up.

Water shoes give the kids blisters, and offer on support for a day of walking around.

A lot of waterslides won't let you wear sandals so you just un-velco the top velcro strip and hold them while you ride ~ no problem.

Have fun!

Thats what I meant by Sport sandles. We are boaters and already all own shoes like that ( not teva but very similar).

Glad to know they will work... Money & feet saved!

Their gashing themselves on the bottom of the wave pool after being knocked down by the waves or the people coming at them because of the waves.

It is a very rough hard surface.

Try Lands End. They have some great "water shoes" that look sportier than the traditional ones. I have a pair that I wore to Typhoon Lagoon last year and they worked great.

I have a pair of Teva's I wear to the river or boating. Did not know they would let you wear them on the water rides. Does anyone know if you can? If so I'm taking them when we leave in five weeks:cool1:.
