Waterpark etiquette ???

Does any of you seat swipers think...what would happen if people just took seats at the water parks whenever someone left their seats? By this theory, if I am sitting with my 5 year old daughter, and she has to go to the bathroom...you should have the right to throw my stuff aside and take my seats while I'm in the bathroom...excuse me??? That would result in utter chaos!

SkierPete

Hey... go ahead and take your daughter to the bathroom...

As long as you don't use the stalls I have reserved.

Likewise, if they didn't intend for people to use chairs for extended periods of time, they would have had way fewer chairs since they really intend for the guests to play in the wave pool, use the slides, float in the lazy river, shop in the stores and dine at the dining facilities. Why even bother with lounge chairs? Why not just put a few benches here and there for guests to sit on in between attractions like in the theme parks?

This isn't really an accurate representation.

Some people DO actually enjoy sitting on a lounge chair and taking a nap, sunning themselves or just resting lying down...

The reason why they have lounge chairs is because quite a good percentage of people actually do like to lounge.

The argument of saying why have lounge chairs as opposed to benches is a little obtuse. The idea of getting people to lay down and soak up sun in a lounge chair, or to have something that grandparents or people who wouldn't otherwise go to a water park with their families to do while the rest are on the rides makes sense from a Disney standpoint... having benches only would cause a double negative effect... A. It would discourage the people who want to spend a day with their families who don't want to be on rides from going ( hence fewer admissions ) B. It would cause crowd the rides more... meaning less people would want to go.

But, i'll play the game of going to extremes to make a point.

If Disney intended for people to get there early to claim a chair for the day... why didn't they put a little place on the chair for the earlybirds to write their names or place a namecard so it's clear who the "ownership" belongs to? I find it hard to believe that Disney intended the lounge chairs to be towel dryers...

Ps... laying in a lounge chair for an hour IS an extended period of time.. and I don't think Disney has any problem with someone doing so... Hell, I don't think ANYONE here has a problem with people using the chairs for extended periods of time... that is EXACTLY the point many of us are making... go ahead and use the chair as long as you wish... but by using it, I mean a HUMAN using it... Are you really trying to imply that Disney's intended "use" was to store flipflops and towels?

Maybe the reality is that Disney puts out so many chairs because they are aware that the vast majority of them get reserved by people who don't want to let other guests go near them.

If everyone shared a little more and was less territorial then Disney could have fewer chairs out there, yet the same amount of people utilizing a chair for what it was designed for... and maybe they could have built another attraction in the space they save.

Only if you can get a Rabbi to bless it.

IMO I usually just find a nice lounge chair and pee on that, I find it's the best way to stake a claim on it.

Well, my stance in this debate is this. . .

usually in waist deep water with hands on my hips.

I find the worst stance is to actually stand at the edge of the pool deck and do it from there, but that position does aid in keeping your designer suit dry, and as a bonus, you don't need to re-apply your sunscreen, which, has been so aptly pointed out, is recommended, yet not required.

Did I mention that this chair debate is becoming tedious. Nobody is convincing anybody of anything.

Our tradition:

Rope drop, head right to the most central bathroom, pick a clean stall, lock the door, crawl out from under, go get fast passes and continue on.

Viola! a clean, reserved toilet for the day. Just takes a little creativity to re-enter.

Yeah... I do something similar... but I accidentally crawled under the wrong stall door and the guy in there was none too happy about the extra company.

Nobody is convincing anybody of anything.
Well, you just convinced me of that fact.

Does this mean the universe will collapse now? We have two conflicting yet true statements....a logical mexican standoff...an open chair in a crowded Disney waterpark...

As someone who has back problems, it isn't always an option to simply keep walking around the park to find the empty chairs ( which may or may not exist ).

I am also not the type to move someones things... but I assure you that if I did find myself having to sit for a bit because my back is telling me I have to and you come back with the "we're gonna have a problem when I get back!" nonsense instead of talking to me like a person without an attitude problem, you sure are correct YOU are going to have a problem. Whether it's simply my getting you kicked out of the park for your (implied) aggressive behavior, of it you actually mean something physical... keep in mind many people who don't look intimidating might just have training you aren't aware of.

I may have misunderstood what you wrote, it happens a lot in forums... but it certainly sounded like you would simply escalate a non issue into a conflict way too quick.

Ok where to start…

How about learning how to multi quote on these boards so we don’t have to wade through endless pages of your responses to each and every person in the thread.

Next, sitting on my chair temporarily because your back hurt wouldn’t be an issue, but moving my personal belongings from my chairs for your own personal use would! And yes I would have an attitude and your day would get markedly worse! And no I would not get kicked out of the park because I am a civilized educated man who would explain to the CM or Security the inappropriateness of your actions.

I don’t want to hear about your back problem either-I have had a two level spinal fusion and I would still never touch someone else’s personal property simply because they aren’t present and I want to sit there. We don’t even get to the park until noon and we still find seats no problem without violating people’s space. People are always constantly coming and going. Just like a parking space, you keep your eyes open and grab one when it becomes available.

Lastly, as far as “people who don’t look intimidating but have training I’m not aware of” I assure you despite your bad back, whatever that training is, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, witchcraft, Jedi Mind Games, whatever it might be, you have me trembling. :scared:

I enjoy watching people debate simple sections of statements. Not the entire statement mind you, just a few sentences out of context from what a poster might have originally stated. That in itself is entertaining. So much effort into trying to twist ideas and words in a thread about a water park at Disney lol.

Nothing is going to change anyone's mind. In fact I suspect half the people complaining on both sides have never even cared about getting a chair. They just want to argue their stance "in case" they have an issue in the future.

Did you stay there and have lunch with your kids until that guy gave you the finger and left? It wasn't HIS throne.

This is a really funny thread actually. The actual argument has played out - some reserve chairs, others don't. What's left are the inane comments from smartalecs like me. Kind of like the clean up crew after the show - not for everyone...and most have left...yet performing a valuable service.

legitimate and related question:

Are you allowed to bring your own beach/camp folding chair into the waterparks?

Why stop there? If ya gotta go, go in style.

Bring a BarcoLounger.

I've seen people get on the bus with larger strollers. (now I've done it, I went and got the stroller mafia involved)

I personally would never move someones personal items from a chair, that was not right.

On the other hand, it really upsets me when I see a family with 3 or 4 children, many of which are very young, take 5 or 6 chairs and put one item on each chair and then go off for an hour or two. Then when they do come back to use the chairs only 3 or 4 of them get used because the younger ones just clearly are too young to sit more than a couple of minutes in a chair.

Why not take a couple of chairs to put all of your things on or as many as you really believe will be used when back at the home space. This way there would be a more chairs for everyone to share.

Some of you people are seriously reidculious.

"rent a locker" - dont fit pull coolers/towers so that blows that theory away.

"you don't have any entitlement" - well, neither do you. What makes you think you can use a chair that is clearly taken? What a hippocratic statement. And why do you think YOU are entitled to a seat? You aren't, we aren't, no one is. It's first come first serve.

"kids don't need chairs" - yes, lets have girls sit in the sand and get sand where it doesn't belong, or let kids sit in the hot sand, they can take it. Why not get the towel they are drying off with full of sand? I honestly think that if they were to shake of the sand you would complain. OR BETTER YET WHY NOT HAVE 6 PEOPLE SIT ON 2 chairs!!! Do you see how this makes no scene?

If you take the time to get there early you get a seat, it's the unwritten rule. It is how it is everywhere else, Disney World is no exception. I cannot believe that adults cannot understand this concept.

if you want a reserved lounger then bring your own...they are only like $10 at Walmart.
Why cant you bring you own and put it in your locker so you can sit whenever you want without inconveniencing anyone[/sarcasm]

Seriously, why cant you get there earlier and safe one for yourself?

I honestly don't see the problem. There are chairs always available in the cabanas by the wave pool. It was crowded everywhere, but the chairs with still in stacks there all day. And another thing I don't get, it's only crowded from 12-3, after that there are tons of chairs. How tired can you get in those 3 hours? We get there at 9:30 (when it opens an 10), and stay till 5. We have luch at out chair, get ready on our chairs, take naps in our chairs, and take pictures from our chairs. We basically camp there for the day. We get there early and make sure we get a good seat. if you want a seat so bad throw a towel on 1 or 2 for your family and use it as base. End of problem.

I haven't read all the replies, but I believe if you were first on prime real estate and leave your towels and stuff there, it is your little area until you leave the park.

Last year, me and my party left and two teenagers came and took our spot. I didn't mean to come off nasty, but I did without realizing it and told them they were in my seats. It was weird I panicked when I saw them sitting there. The father and mom were nearby and the father was a huge guy who could have easily ate me for breakfast, and he did shoot me a look, but didn't say anything. I am lucky he was a gentlemen.

I didn't mean to come off the way I did, but I did come off like a bit of an ***. I let a few minutes pass and walked over to the kids and apologized. They were very cool. However, I am amazed the father didn't say something. If I was him, I probably would have said, hey you don't have to be so nasty about it. Oh well, I'm glad I didn't have to fight a guy twice my size in Disney.

I don't believe in fighting especially at Disney. I wouldn't want to spoil anyone's vaction who would have to witness that ugliness.

But I also have a rule, that if I have to fight someone, it would always be someone bigger. I am not a bully and if I am going to stand up, I better do it to someone who is bigger because I don't want to be a coward and only fight someone who is smaller. Now don't get me wrong, I am all about peace, but if I have to go mano-to-mano I am going to have some honor when I do it.

I am a short stocky guy that has one of those Napolean complexes.

Wow I went way off topic didn't I. Sorry.

Oh that's a great idea....Matter of fact why not buy your own Waterpark then you can roll our of bed anytime you want and always have the place to use as you want :)

ooorrrrrr decide you really want a chair and show up early.. otherwise you take your chances.

:wizard:

I agree, I hate confrontation. I doubt I would say anything to people, but I would go on about my buisness in my camp that I took the time to set up. They hopefully will get the point that that was my stuff.

First, I think it's pretty messed up those people moved your stuff. Also, I don't see anything wrong with keeping stuff at a seat. There are rides/slides to go on. What are you supposed to do? Put your things in a locker every time you want to go on something?? I can see if you left stuff on the chairs all day and never went back but for a half an hour or an hour I see nothing wrong with it.

::yes:: I don't know about Tour Guide Mike or RideMax, but I know the Unofficial Guide's touring plan for the water parks does NOT include repeated trips to one's locker throughout the day between rides, or finding a new chair after each ride segment ;)
In fact, it only recommends finding chairs once - on arrival :)
