Waterless Shampoo

Do any of you have a suggestion for a waterless shampoo that my DH could find at Walmart or Target? (I'm looking for something that will get my hair somewhat clean not dry shampoo.)

We used this type of thing for my mom before her bathroom was made handicap accessible. You put it on your head and sort of massage your head to get it all worked through. She had short hair though so if your hair is longer I don't know how well it would work(might make it tangled). This one is from Walgreens but we got the one we used for her at WalMart.

We got something similar:

Rinse free shampoo.
so, it's still wet, but it doesn't need water to rinse out.

Thanks for the suggestion & the warning about long hair. My hair is very long & tangles easily.

Thanks. I'll try this.

Right but I don't think rinse free shampoos which are wet are considered the same as the dry shampoos which are usually powdery.?

It's basically the same ingredients, a starch of some kind, delivered in either a spray or a mousse solution. Either way, you're placing a chemical concoction on your head to absorb oil, but it is leaving all that stuff on your scalp without actually cleaning anything.

What is the opposition to just regular shampoo?

There may be a reason the OP can't wash her hair regularly. My mom had a brain aneurysm and was partially paralyzed. When she came home from the rehab hospital, she did not have a handicap accessible bathroom right away. My dad was her main caregiver but also worked as truck driver so was on the road some days, if he wasn't home to transfer her to the shower, we gave her washcloth baths and washed her hair with these shampoo caps, as there was no easy way to wash her hair using regular shampoo.

I RVed full time for 10 years, and there were tons of times that either we didn't have water hookups or the park was under a boil water advisory (amazing how frequently RVers run over water lines!). So I got very familiar with not having access to unlimited running water. I swear by the No Rinse brand line of products. They have rinse free body wash as well as shampoo and conditioner. I also have long hair that tangles easily, and I never had any problems with the No Rinse stuff. It's not a cap, which gives you better control over your hair. Just be sure to use plenty of the conditioner. I also ended with a leave-in conditioner now and then to prevent my hair from drying out.

I watch an author / professional therapist on Tiktok who specializes in working with people who have ADHD, some mental disabilities, or health disabilities - like the elderly or physically disabled have, which sometimes makes it hard to do every day functions for a plethora of reasons. She is one of the most NON-shaming people I know of. 🥰

After she had an operation which made it impossible to get into a shower or bathtub for weeks, she used these two products (separately.) She did an Amazon Livestream for them. But it's been since deleted as, I guess Amazon doesn't archive stuff longterm.

The first one is a no rinse shampoo cap. Put on the cap, massage it into the hair, it wets the hair, keeps the shampoo contained. NO rinsing. Take off the cap and the hair IS wet and cleaned. Just no need to get into the tub or over a sink to wash the hair.

The second product is technically a "dry shampoo" but contains no benzene. And it does leave the hair a bit wet.

Here is TikTok video she did a week after she had her operation, challenged at maintaining some hygiene. At the 40 second mark you can see KC using the shampoo cap and pulling it off afterward. Her hair is wet, but not sopping wet.

Also here is KC's Amazon page, if you want to get the body wipes or other items she used and recommends works.

Just wash it when it's dirty.

Sometimes, people have difficulty washing their hair in the shower. After major surgery, for example. Or being on strict bedrest. Or maybe the anxiety that comes with being a new mom and not feeling like you can leave the baby alone for as long as it takes to wash your hair (at least 7-8 minutes for me). Or camping for a week in the mountains with no shower in sight.

All that to say, there are many reasons why someone would not be able to just wash it when it's dirty.
