I know that you should only weigh in once a week, but I have this compulsion to do it daily.

Monday I started my new healthy eating patterns. I significantly increased my fluid intake (Crystal Light).

Mon 5 liters
Tues 4 liters
Wed 3 1/2 liters
Thurs 5 1/2 liters

I weighed myself Tuesday for a baseline. Wednesday I gained five pounds. Thursday same weight. I weighed myself at the same time in the morning, same clothing (panties and bra) on the same scales in the same place on the hard kitchen floor.

I know I am passing fluid (frequent trips to the bathroom)

 I don't understand. At least I did not give up.

I for one am very proud of you for not giving up! It can be very discouraging when you are doing all you can to lose, and then suddenly 5 lbs appears. You are surely being visited by the one that we have learned to call the bloat fairy. There was a disgruntled WISHer or two, earlier on the board today. We are doing all we know how to do to get rid of him. Why- beanie has even gotten out the big guns to take care of him! ANd have resorted to using tactics taught to me by my ex-CIA father. We are not sure if our weapons have been successful or not, but should know within a few days. Hang in there!! AND- GOOD FOR YOU for staying strong and on course!

Oh yeah, definitely the Bloat Fairy...We don't like him at all!!

Retaining fluid is uncomfortable and it makes us unfairly irritated with our scales.

I'm so proud of you for not giving up. This fluid will be gone in a day or two and your weight will drop back down :) In the meantime just come spend time here, on WISH, it helps me a lot to do that :)

Take heart- it HAS to be water. There is absolutely no way you could gain 5lbs overnight- on matter how you ate- and we know you are eating well because you are trying to lose weight! So that's impossible for it to be fat gain. So yes, definitely water weight gain. Which means continue to drink lots of water and it will eventually go away. Could you possibly be near that time of the month? That's when the bloat fairy visits me. The one fairy I hate.

Don't give up! You can do it! It's not fat - NO WAY!!! :)

Hm, maybe this is a hint that you shouldn't weigh every day? It's too frustrating for me! :) Good luck!

I know I may make people mad here but water gain is not always bloat ...

If you significantly increase your fluids from your "baseline" day that 5 lb weight gain may be cell rehydration. (You may have been slightly dehydrated before starting to drink all those fluids).

Bob Greene (Oprah's former trainer) in his book "Get With the Program" states that he is NOT surprised when his clients initially gain 5-10 lbs when they start vigorously exercising and drinking fluids (6-8 8oz glasses of water/day) without cutting calories/food intake. Yes it is water gain but his contention is that ordinarily we are all slightly dehydrated and often times our hunger is due to the need for liquids - not food. Once you keep up the liquid habit , exercise and eating well - pounds should drop after the initial gain. (I strongly recommend this book for the exercise info alone.)

Also - DO NOT weigh yourself daily - water weight fluctuations will only discourage you. Keep your weigh-ins to once a week and don't eat a really salty meal the night before (otherwise your asking for trouble ;) )

FYI - A pint of water = 1 pound; 5 liters of water = approx. 10 pounds.

Keep up the good work! Its all downhill (weight-wise) from here!!!

Thanks!

I know it wasn't bloat because that was the week before.

I have cut calories/food intake dramatically.

But I also increased water significantly. The exercise is new. I haven't exercised in 10 years.

I am always thirsty. Even when my BSL is low/normal. I think that is just me. I have not problem getting enough fluid daily. Admittedly it is crystal light rather than water, but it is going in.
