DH is not a big water fan. DS loves water! He gives me his empty water cup when he wants more. He drinks about 2-4 sippy cups of water a day depending on the temp. I try and get my 8-10 glasses in a day. I do drink some Sprite to help with my morning sickness, but that is about a glass a day.

I hate water. I just don't like the taste of it, it's bland. The only time I really drink it is at WDW. It's so hot nothing quenches the thirst better.

I wonder who is buying up all the soda at the stores? :confused3 Certainly not the DISers! ;)

Yeah exactly what I was thinking. :thumbsup2

If everyone drinks water as they say they do than the soda companies would be out of business and would be water companies only. Also there would be no need for the debate on refillable mug policy here on the boards. Everyone would just be drinking the water so no need to worry about what is and is not stealing of soda etc. :rotfl2: Of course it could just be that all the water drinkers are the only ones answering this poll. :rotfl2:

I am with those that hate water. My husband and son drink it though. But in full disclosure they do drink soda/juice as do I. Also soy milk for my son and reg. milk for dh. I do not like reg. milk unless it is in cereal etc. so if we have it I go for the 1% chocolate milk.

Maybe it's cause NYC has the best tasting water ever!

Considering it is not filtered I doubt it. At one point I believe they were pumping water from the Susquehanna River into the city as well. Not water I would want to drink. NY state water is the worst tasting stuff next to Florida that I have ever had.

On vacation all bets are off and Soda rules:rotfl: I need the sugar to have enough energy to walk in the parks all day (at least that is what I tell myself:rolleyes1--and we do still drink water but it is about 50/50 with Soda on vacation and we drink A LOT at WDW).

My kids all learned to like water at a young age. All the sugar and calories and chemicals in other drinks aren't good for you, and IMO that goes for milk as well. They get plenty of calcium and protein in cheese and yogurt, so I don't allow them to "drink" milk either. If you are thirsty, drink water. I remember as little ones they were whiny about it, because around 2 I weaned them off milk as well. They were like, I don't like water, I want milk. Eventually they got thirsty enough to drink water. Go long enough at being thirsty you will like water I think..it may be an acquired taste, but you will acquire the taste. We are all VERY active in this family as well. Personally I believe that's part of the obesity epidemic in this country, too many people drink calorie drinks (including milk) way too much. Yes, milk/dairy is good for you in moderation, but it also has a lot of calories so you can easily overdo it (which leads to packing on the pounds). The other drinks, imo, are totally empty calories (which few of us "need" more calories- most of us are just fine).

Off soapbox. :lmao:

As this article shows soda sales don't dominate like they used to,obviously they still sell a lot but it's dropped mostly to water which has a 29.2% market share of the liquid refreshment beverage category and other drinks like Gatorade.

I managed to train the kids to ask permission before getting a drink....it wasn't my intention..but it now allows me to direct them to choices other than soda and juice.

My husband is a huge coke addict(a coca cola addict)! I only drink soda around PMS time to wash down the chocolate.

The kids are allowed soda if we are eating out and once in a blue moon if we are home..other wise it is milk or ice water with a juice box thrown in here and there. I drink ice water sometimes with lemon juice squeezed in and un-sweet hot and iced tea most of the time.

I take a refilable bottle of water to work everyday and that's what I drink.

I drink water or milk mostly anyway. Occasionally I will drink AS koolaide (although it's generic LOL), or a regular fountain soda. I use to drink a lot of soda or diet type soda but I had cut it down to one a day and now am down to 1-3 a week. I started out just trying to cut down on HFCS drinks but then also tried to limit artifcial sweetner as well. So that left water and milk which I drink a lot of anyway.

We have a great little stop on Route 66 which is about 10 miles from me called Pops. Its a gas station/diner and they carry over 500 types of soda. When we go out there I buy a six pack of bottles of real sugar sodas (mexican Coke, Dublin Dr. Pepper, Nehi orange and grape, etc). Other than that I may pick up the occasional fountain drink at resturants or a sonic coke when I'm out running errands on Saturday.

My nephews, one will almost always drink water as a first choice, the other is a soda addict who is trying to kick his diet dr pepper habit. They do compete in sports and they drink a lot of water or gatoraide there.

It took me a long time to realize that soda was a treat and not a form of hydration. Hopefully the boys will be better.

Is the only reason you stay away from milk is because of the calories?? just curious since my family could buy a cow with all the milk we drink LOL

Pretty much. It's not to say they never get milk..we go through about a gallon a week with cooking and cereal. So with three kids, I think that's plenty since they do eat a ton of cheese (and I cook with a ton of cheese, as well- one of our fave foods is homemade pizza and we do go heavy on the cheese :rotfl:). My kids just get their daily calories in their food, so I do try to keep their drinks calorie free.

I ONLY drink water, my husband occasionally has beer or coffee too, but mostly just water. I answered "other" because we don't have kids and there was no option for that.

It is free and one of the best things you can do for your health. I can't believe how much beer, soda, coffee and juice cost- I couldn't imagine budgeting that in weekly. If a free, healthy food option came out of my sink I would eat that too.

We drink water here at home ALL the time. In fact, I rarely buy soft drinks. We have made a few pitchers of lemonade since it is summer time. I do enjoy pepsi and sweet tea but only when eating out on occasion. We usually do water at all meals. Drinks in a restaurant are soooooo expensive!

My ds13 has never had a soft drink :scared1: and has always been a water drinker because it is what he prefers. He just never has like the carbonation in soft drinks. When he was little it was "spicy" in his opinion! Too Cute! He will sometimes drink juice but usually water.

My dd16 does like soft drinks and sweet tea but is very disciplined and limits herself. She has cut back on caffeine and rarely drinks anything with it anymore.

My kids really make pretty healthy decisions on thier own!:cloud9: DH and I have to work a little harder to do that!

We do buy bottled water. We use it for lunches that we pack and for the beach, pool, etc..

Great poll!

I'm trying to drink more water but it tastes bland. I've tried Crystal Light but the packets give me headaches. Does anyone else experience this? And if so, did you find a suitable alternative?

This isn't really the same thing, but my partner is pretty picky about the taste of her water. We have a plastic souvenir cup from the aquarium that I use to put water in for us when we go out because it's really big, but she said she can taste the plastic & doesn't like it. It tastes fine to me. She also doesn't like water from other places - we went on vacation to PA and she wouldn't drink the tap water there. (She grew up in FL & used to drink that water, but I guess 10 years of living "up north" has made her picky!)

I'm with your partner. i like my water a very specific way. it has to be very cold and filtered. (i prefer poland spring bottled but will take filtered in a pinch).

if water sits out too long i can taste that it's gone "stale" or when it's in those metal bottles? ick! tastes like metal.

DD 11 only drinks water and milk. DH the same. i don't drink enough water (only about 24oz a day) but don't drink a lot of fluids to being with. i have about 30oz of fluid a day. i do eat a lot of fruit (watermelon, orange) but i honestly don't like to drink fluids.

DH says i am probably dehyrated.

I just gave up a 25 year Diet Coke addiction (last soda was on 5/19!!!!!) and am drinking mostly water and Chrystal Light now along with some green tea.

Jill in CO

Wow! This is what I need to do.. maybe I can get motivated!

Probably a silly question, but what's hard water?? :confused3

Hard water is water that contains mineral salts (as calcium and magnesium ions) that limit the formation of lather with soap and is found in many city water reserves. NY has hard water in their water cycle.

We drink water with crystal light or other sugar free flavorings in it for the most part. I NEED my diet coke in the morning and ususally have at least one more during the day. we also use about a gallon of milk a week between the 3 of us drinking as well as on cereal ect.

I voted the first one BUT I don't MAKE my kids drink water, they just want it. They do have juice or milk as well but we all mostly drink water.

I was going to post the same thing. My DD chooses water 98% of the time. She even packs water in her lunch. We don't do juice at all, ever. Milk I have to encourage her to drink. Luckily, she likes yogurt.
