I am traveling with DW, DD (8) and DS(10) on 4 day cruise Dec 6 - 10 and was wondering what the water temperature is going to be like at Atlantis and Castaway Cay. We have a room reserved at Comfort Suites just to take advantage of Aquaventure and also like to spend as much time in water as possible. Is it going to be too cold to stay in the water all day? My wife cannot stand cold water but my kids and I dont mind as much. We are from Ohio so used to the cold.

Thanks for everyone that replies. Can't wait to take first Disney Cruise !!

We went this year in September and it was great.

Last year we went at the end of October / early november and the water was COLD at Castaway Cay...

Atlantis does not heat their pools; certainly not the lazy river because it would be impossible to do.

In November I fully anticipate the water to be too cold to swim in; I can't imagine dipping more than a toe in the water in December, but that's my thin Florida blood...

We went on the Wonder last Thanksgiving. We did the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau and the water was COLD!! We did the Stingray Adventure on CC and I thought it was way too cold but my husband and kids did go further in. Too cold for me!!! We're going in December this year and I'm not counting on getting in at CC!!!

A few years ago we went on Dec. 19th and the waters were too cold at CC for us to go in (but there were some brave people who went in). I remember the funniest sight was a woman in a winter coat walking on the beach! We had jackets, but nothing heavy on like a coat.

That was the trip we did the Kayak excursion and I have to say it was PERFECT for that! We didn't get to hot at all and the temperatures were perfect for a nice walk/hike and Kayaking.

Has anyone seen people with wetsuits? I know my kids DD(8) and DS(10) are going to be dying to get in the water and I was wondering if people ever bring wetsuits?

I like the idea of kayaking. I think they would like that too. What about the wave runners. That should be fine also or would that be too cold because of speed and splashing of waves?

We went in February and thought the water was fine. Is it normally colder in November than in February??

I went last year at the beginning of December and while the water was a little chilly, it wasn't bad to me.

Course, I live in Chicago and have no problem with that sort of temp.

Thank you to everyone who replied. It seems like it is too cold for most people but it may be alright for us Northerners who are used to cold weather.

Last thing I was wondering is if anyone has seen people wearing wetsuits at CC or Atlantis? I have done some research and it seems like you would need 3/2 Flatlock suits and you can get those for around $50.00 for kids. We are saving around $170.00 by getting a room at Comfort Suites instead of using excursion so I would be using that as justification to getting wetsuits if they would work and are allowed.

I have never used a wet suit so did not know if anyone has seen anyone using them at Atlantis or CC. That might be a way to still enjoy the water without freezing.

Again thanks for the replies.

I wore my 5mm full wetsuit in Feb. I am debating taking it again next week. Feb I was the only one in a wetsuit and everyone else was freaking out about the water being cold. I was not sorry I packed it. I bought it just for that cruise so if I wear it again at least I got more use out of it!

:rotfl: It'll be in the low 20's at home buried under a few feet of snow when we sail 12/10 so i'm confident that my entire family will be thrilled with 74degree water! We'll all be in the water at CC the whole day!

I read somewhere the pools at Atlantis are heated just like the water parks at WDW. We stayed there in October and they were like bathwater

We were there the first week of Dec 2007. The water was cool and our kids didn't have any problem with it. We also did the jet ski tour. DW, who is always cold, didn't mind as long as the sun was out.

We'll be onboard with you this year. We also have a cruise meets thread if you care to join us.

We will be on the ship with you and we also did our very first Disney Cruise the first week of Dec in 2007. We booked this one before we got off the ship. We were in the water in Nassau and Castaway Cay also. Like you said as long as the sun is out that is all that matters. :yay:

You guys are scaring me:scared1: We leave 12/6 and have Atlantis booked and snorkeling for CC. Please tell me I'm not wasting tons of $$$. I don't want to be there w/ a parka on.

We went the second week of Dec. last year and it was cold when you first got in but then it felt good. The year before it was slightly warmer in the water. Still warm enough for swimming when we went.

The water temp at CC in December is the same as the water temp at the Maryland shore in summertime. It's all relative. If you normally go to the Florida beaches in late spring or summer, you may think the water is cold. If you're from a more central or northern state and you would swim in a lake in summer time, you should be fine.
