Water socks

Due to the heat of the concrete in the water parks during the height of the summer, some people have suggested getting some water socks. Has anyone had any experience of these and where to get them before going on holiday (I don't want to be rushing around when we get there).

I've never used them but if I happened to see them before I went I would possibly give them a shot. I suspect however that they are amongst the kind of things I often buy because they look like a good idea and never remember to use them.

The concrete gets blistering hot at the waterparks, so barefoot walking about can be uncomfortable We have always had our crocs or flip flops on. If I sit on a lounger I slip them off and leave them there until I get out of the water.

Water socks are fine for the short walk to the pools etc, but you wouldn't
manage to use then as a substitute for shoes with soles as the heat will eventually penetrate them, meaning you still have to have a pair of shoes with you to get from A to B anyhow. It is for you to decide if you think you will make use of them to justify taking them along because you would be regularly taking them off if you have flip flops that go between the toes. Also, beware of tan lines with the watersocks!

I'm not quite sure what water socks are, but a good recomendation is to get some Coolmax moisture wicking socks. These sock draw the moisture awat from yor feet to stop the moisture from sweating from causing rubbing and blisters.

Most sports shops do them as well as Amazon.

You could get water shoes, can't say i've ever come across water socks but I guess they are the same principle. I've never used ours at a water park but always use them at the beach/sea.
You can get them at sport shops, tesco ebay etc.

I got little scuba shoe thingies in Sports Direct for £3.

They were great at TL/BB.

Never seen water socks, but will be buying some cheap aqua shoes for the water parks, as well as ebay etc I noticed they also have some in the current Argos catalogue too

You can get water socks from places that stock swimming gear and accessories. Often they are worn to prevent slipping rather than from hot surfaces and are made of a thin rubber material (like swimming caps). On this basis, for the OPs purposes, they may not be the best option. THe water shoes would be better if traction is a consideration as well.

Sounds ideal, but do you have to take them off before going down a slide? My intention was to try to buy something that would protect my feet from the heat but which I wouldn't have to take off when I wanted to go down a slide.

For instance if you have to walk a failry long distance on the concrete you would want to protect your feet but there wouldn't be anywhere to leave your shoes whilst on the slide?

I do have some fliflops for general walking around which I will take as well.

Perhaps I'm just asking too much.

If you buy the aqua shoes people have mentioned you dont have to take them of to go down the slides, We didnt take any last year but will definatley be taking them this year, the floors get very hot especially at aquatica

The prices seem reasonable and they're in UK sizes also.

We've never been without water shoes in the waterparks before and myself and DBF found them to be a lifesaver at DC in April 2008. Ours are going back with us and my parents and brother have ordered from the site on the link

We didn't have to take ours off on the slides we were in tubes for, but did have to hold them on the slides that you just go down on your own in. Not a big deal though.

We have the water shoe type ones and they are great. We bought ours from Discovery cove one year as we found some of the areas a bit rough on the feet and the idea of walking bare foot in the bird bit...

Also the bottom of the lazy river at typhoon lagoon and the entrance to the pool is or maybe was (not been recently) is very rough on your feet and I have seen people grave their feet and toes badly. It is supposed to be simulated sand.

For us it was the sheer heat of the ground that did it! At BB I didn't know what to do with our shoes, so we stuffed the in the locker to do the long meandering floating river ..... we made it about 100 metres and I ended up with DD shuffling along on my towel as I pulled it slowly along. And that was April - not even the hottest month! Floating along the creek with our crocs on our wrists was still a better option. Whatever you decide to use, barefoot is not an option!

So, if i'm wearing my crocs at the park but decide to take them off, what would be better in to use at the water parks?
Also are you allowed to wear crocs, water socks ect in the water 'coz I would like to swim but dont want them to get taken or to hold them in the water whilst swimming?
Any advise?

We just left them at our loungers. In fact when we did that lazy creek (never remember the name - took amost an hour right around BB) we left our shoes and our own towels on a lounger and came back and collected them afterwards. I know some people have had opted to take them with on some of the waterslides, but for swimming you usually have a lounger or chair that you grab when you arrive and mark it by putting your things on it.

Watersocks are designed to be worn in the water so they won't protest about that. They just may not protect your feet too much if you have to stand in a line in the hot sun as they are thin and the heat will penetrate them after a few minutes of standing on hot cement.

we wear aqua shoes in the water and around the water park no problem. We only do tube rides and on these had no need to remove them

We have aqua/water shoes, Tesco sell cheap ones that usually last the trip. Crocs do a version of water shoes too called hydro crocs - debating whether to invest in a pair of these.
