Water Shoes?

Does anyone happen to know which kind of water shoes are allowed in the water? or do you have to wear theirs?

I think you can't do anything wrong with water socks / neopren socks!

I have worn both Aqua Sox and Crocs and had no problem with either. If this question refers to Discovery Cove, you have to take any footwear off before entering the dolphin lagoon.

My 12y DD and I will be at DC for the first time later this month. Do we need water shoes for other parts like the snorkeling area? I am having a hard time locating any right now. Seems here in New England its all about the fall clothes and shoes already and I haven't seen any. I wondered if we really needed them.

I would definitely recommend wearing something on your feet. There is artificial coral in the Coaral Reef that is very sharp. there are also very sharp stones/ rocks in the tropical river.

That should probably we OK as long as they are a snug fit. I think the main reason for the "No footwear in the Dolphin Lagoon" rule is that they worry that the dolphins might get hurt if they are accidentally kicked.

i'll take crogs with me too for all other areas as the neopren socks might get demaged there... i think they wouldn't survive walking over stones and stuff.

We're from NE too. Same problem..there are no water shoes anywhere that I can find!! Can you wear regular flip-flops/sandals in the reef and river areas? Or will they not allow this?

I think they offer water shoes in their souvenir shops!

Pretty much anything that is suitable for use in water will be fine. So sandals (but not leather), Crocs, water shoes, etc should all be fine. My husband usually wears his sandals and I nowadays mainly wear my Cayman Crocs. I would not recommend flip flops as they could come off and some of the water areas are rather deep, but anything with straps that keep them securely in place should be fine.

If you are in Orlando prior to your visit at Discovery Cove, you might want to check out the Ron Jon Surf Store at Festival Bay. I got some water shoes there in November before now and they were not expensive either.

They do indeed, but they come at a bit of a premium.
