Water shoes at CC?

Are water shoes necessary to swim and wade at CC? The only thing we will do there is swim, snorkel and bike ride.

Thanks.

I would recommend it. There are little rocks in the sand (under water) and many shells.

DH and I brought watershoes and we did not regret it.

We've never even considered water shoes at CC and after 13 visits haven't wished we had them either.

I didn't use them and didn't feel like I needed them. I was happy to have a comfortable pair of sandals for walking around the island, however. Flip flops wouldn't have cut it for me.

We didn't have them on our first visit but we were only in the water in front of the family cabanas and wish we had. We will certainly be bringing them on our future cruises.

Never needed or wanted them- but if you have tender feet or little ones, they are not a bad idea.

I am not a frequent beach goer, and I was glad I had water shoes. DD and DH didn't feel like they needed them.

The way I look at it, I'm not going to walk off the ship barefoot. So something is going to be on my feet. Might as well be water shoes, no? But I am not a "flip-flop" person in any way, shape or form. I also wear them around the ship on sea days when I am likely to be spending time out on decks that might get wet. So they are definitely "multi-taskers" for me. And so easy and light to pack.

We have always taken them and were glad to have them. The rocks/coral were really bad on our visits so they helped a lot. DH didn't want to wear his and wore his Teva sandals instead. The problem there was the small rocks/coral got between his foot and the bed of the shoe (ouchie).

We also used them when waiting for the Aquaduck. The stairs get really hot and they wouldn't let us take our flip flops on the ride (not sure if that is still the case - may depend on the CM working). But the water shoes were OK since they stayed on your feet better.

Bring them.

If you need them you have them. If you don't, no harm is done.

We have had one or two times (definitely once, not sure twice) where we NEEDED them, even DH. The time I totally remember was Feb 2013 and it wasn't that long after a big storm had hit Castaway. That changed the consistency of the sand (dry and under the water) completely and it HURT to walk. I had water shoes. DH and DS didn't. Until we spent ~25 each in the island giftshop to get them.

The other times we've been there (with the double dip counted, that's either 3 or 4 other times) we haven't needed them. But we had them, just in case!

OMG, you remind me how bad the floor around the kids pool was. It felt like walking on charcoal. I would never go back there without shoes! :scared1:

The sand at CC is not soft baby powder sand like other tropical locations. Lots of tiny shells and rocks. I was hobbling around in the sand because I was barefoot. I won't forget my water shoes next time!

The "sand" is crushed sea shells. Castaway Cay is part of a reef system.

I will be wearing my Crocs. They dry easy, they float, they protect my feet, and one less pair of shoes to pack.

I have Chaco sandals that I walk around in, and it doesn't matter if they get wet or even soaked. Easy to slip on and off, and they are perfect for biking and just walking around. I'd say better safe than sorry. Doesn't hurt to be prepared.
