Can someone rate/rank the water rides at IOA?
I am a roller coaster chicken (Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at WDW is the scariest one I will ride). At Six Flags, I have been on Splashwater Falls where the drop is 50ft. I am reading that Dudley Do Right's Ripsaw Falls is a 75 ft drop and that Jurassic Park is an 85 ft drop.
I rode the Tower of Terror at MGM last year and survived it, so do you think I would be able to take these IOA rides? I don't mind getting wet, just nervous about the drops.
Also, my 5 year old meets the requirements at 44" for Jurassic Park, but not Ripsaw Falls. Why is the heighth less for the ride with the longer drop??
Thanks in advance!

The water rides at IOA are the best water rides I've been on.

Duddley Do Right's Ripsaw Falls is a flume ride like Splash mountain. You ride in a log like Splash mountain but the difference is instead of having several rows that seats 2 people next to each other, there is one long column that has the guests sitting chest to back. There are a few minor drops with the big one at the end. If you can do Splash mountain, you should be able to do Ripsaw Falls.

Jurassic Park is a scenic raft ride. The boats consist of several rows that seats 4 or 5 guests each. There's only one drop on the ride. I find this ride tamer than Ripsaw Falls.

The other water ride at IOA is Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barge. It's like Kali River Rapids at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Riders sit in a large, circular raft facing each other. The scenery is very well themed with animated characters.

From least wet to wettest:

Jurassic Park River Adventure
Dudley Ripsaw Falls
Popeye (guaranteed to be wet)

Yes!

I'm guessing because JP is a bigger boat, more people and tamer ride....Ripsaw IS more like the "log flume" type ride....and I think it has a "steeper" drop.

Thanks! :goodvibes That was helpful information. That makes sense then about the heighth if Jurassic is less steep a drop than Dudley.

the jurassic park ride my dad told me was just a boat trip, i was like only 10 or something, and i thou oh this is OK, then we started going up and i what like "what"

he tricked me and i have never rode it since, been on Dudley's to just once i don't like them, prefer Altanis (sp) at Seaworld and Splash Mountain MK

I agree that the JP ride can be very scary. If your 5 yo. isn't really brave, have them close their eyes or skip the ride. The dinosaurs in the building aren't Barney & all his pals. ;)

We didn't go on any water ride except for Jurassic Park River Adventure, and I have to say -- IMO, it is a MUST RIDE! If you liked the movie at all, you will go nuts for the ride! It's spectacular! :cool1: I will say in all honesty, my DD (6) got a bit scared when we were about to go over, due to the large T-Rex right there. Some dinosaurs are cute there and some... not so much. ;) But, we rode it 2x in a row, if that helps you decide... And DD was the one who insisted we ride it again! :thumbsup2

Have fun!

If you wear a rain poncho, do you think you can avoid getting wet on Popeye? My DH doesn't want to get wet!

Thanks!

I think Popeye is the wettest ride I've ever been on!!! I think his poncho would have to be really big to avoid getting wet. If the poncho covers his all of his clothes, including his bottom, he might not get his clothes wet. We didn't wear ponchos and all of us got soaked from head to toe. DH and I had on sandals and our two sons and our nephew had on tennis shoes. The group that we rode with suggested to them that they take off their shoes and put them in the covered area in the middle to avoid getting them wet. Our boys took off their shoes, while our nephew left his on, and our nephew's shoes and socks got drenched. DH and I were fine wearing our sandals.

Oh, I wanted to add that we didn't notice the signs that tell you that shoes must be worn at all times while on the ride until we got off of the ride. But we noticed that there were lots of shoeless people riding and they would put their shoes back on at the child swap area when they got off the ride.

it was my first time on it and i got the first row sitting in the right middle

Riding Popeye you are guaranteed to get wet, even wearing a Poncho isn't necessarily enough because water comes in from all sides.

What if he wears a 55 gallon garbage bag with a poncho over the top? Do you think that would work?

There are restrooms right near Popeye if he would like to change (if you carry swim shorts & extra shirt in your bag, he could change before or after the ride and stow shoes/sandals in the "dry bin"......I didn't know there were restrooms right across from Popeye till I was just there....very convenient.

Ripsaw is a more volatile attraction, with a steeper drop and no restraints.

Ok, last year. When I went in October. I rode Jurassic. It is a must do ride. Very fun. Especially near the end. My son wore a poncho, and got a little wet spot on him. Nothing to bad at all. Then, I did popeye. My son hates being wet. He wore those industrial sized xxl large poncho you know the thick green ones. It covered all of him. His head, all of his clothes, with extra space. Plus he sat on it. So, he was wrapped up pretty tight. He still got wet. So, if your husband doesnt wish to get wet. He should skip Popeye. I loved it. I love water rides!! I was soaked, yeah baby!! Now, before I had left my home to go to universal. I had a plan. I knew, I wanted to ride ripsaw falls. Until, I saw it  .... OMG. I could never ride that. It looks like the doggone flume is more than halfway off the track. And it looks way more than steep. I think I would have a stroke going on that. Mind you, I rode the hulk and loved it. But, dudleys ripsaw falls. No, thank you. I will stay far away.

To be honest, if you don't want to get wet do not ride Popeye.
Getting wet on the ride is half the fun.

I'd agree....you sit in a puddle of water before you even get away from the loading area.... ::yes::
