water parks

Don't use the buses!! We were staying at SSR. we went through the SSR bus stops and the DTD bus stops. We then passed right by Typhoon Lagoon and returned to SSR. I had my two younger children with me and did not want to make a scene. It took us 1.5 hours to get to the waterpark that day. Yes, I did let the transportation and management know.

We bring a bag with towels and sunscreen with us. We find a place to park it and off we go.

Have fun!! We love the water parks.

Wow sorry this happened to you. We have had no trouble using the busses from SSR or OKW to go to either water park.
We wear our suits under our clothes and bring sunscreen and our dd's diaper bag with what we need for her.
We don't rent a locker. We leave our things at our chairs with the stroller. We rent towels. They are $2 each.
When we are about done we sit and have a snack or drink and let our suits dry. Then we throw our clothes back on and head for the bus stop.

I think we paid over $20 last time to store our shoes, Sun screen, and rented towels. So silly. Next time I will just leave everything in the car, and walk back out there if I need more sunblock.

I just bring such things in with me and leave them in my beach bag by the chairs. I figure it is very (very) unlikely that anyone will steal my sunblock, and if they do, eh, no big deal.

We have gotten there in the am and rented a locker...spent the day until 2pm, showered, dried hair, put our wet suits in the backpack and head out to the closest bus to whichever park we were going to (need to go to a resort...no park buses)....put the backpack in a locker at the park...now, since we bought DVC we aren't such crazies and go back to the resort for a shower and snooze and then off to the parks.

Great post we are going in August and plan on spending a lot of time at the water parks. You saved me having to post the same thing.

Surprisingly I saw comments on water shoes and wonder why? We have a 10, 8 6 and 3 year old that spend lots of time at the pool (swim team) along with water park time locally and never thought of water shoes. Is it the heat on the cement or something else? We all hate water shoes but hate sore feet that can be avoided even more.

The concrete can get hot (even with water being sprayed on it) and it can be rough in some places, it think it is more rough at Typhoon Lagoon. We all hate water shoes also. We wear flip flops or slide-on sandals. On some rides we hold them, on others they can be worn. We find that we would rather wear them and hold them occasionally than feel like our feet burn or get torn up.

A lot of people can't stand the heat on the pavement or don't like the germ aspect. We do not find water shoes or footwear needed except when we go into the restroom/changing areas but that is our choice.

If you have a car, use it, but be prepared, the parking can get difficult on a busy day. We've also done a cab back from the waterparks - to the parks the buses are fine - you are dry. Back and you are wet and sandy and exhausted and have had too much sun. The buses are certainly doable, but just getting HOME is nice.

Bring towels.

It is one of those places that if you can bring a string bag and leave it by the chair, and don't care too much about your sunscreen, sunglasses, and paperback getting taken, that is by far your best bet. One of those cases to hold your room key/credit card/ and drivers license. Locker rentals are pricey. And honestly, we've never had issues with stuff getting stolen - but I leave my iPhone and Kindle in the room. If you are going with a party, grab the pen and paper from your room and leave it with your chair - you can pass messages that way. My kids have had the run of the waterpark for a few years now, I generally camp in a chair with a book, but once in a while leave my stuff at the chair for a trip in the river or something. Enough non-swimming adults and you can have someone always watch your stuff. We've done that as well when traveling with friends.

And you will want water shoes or flip flops - something on your feet - unless you are really used to going barefoot. The concrete will eat up your feet at the end of the day.

Get their early and grab a chair with some shade :)

You also can get warts . My dd6 ish at the time picked 1 up at a local pool :( hundreds if $$ later, 10+ laser treatments and a few liquid pain treatments later we will never go to a pool again without them. Disney is not immune to customers with germs.

Also we don't rent locker we bought a dry saver from amazon kept room key n car key n $$ in it worked great!!! I think we brought towels from the resort, and exchanged when wet with dry ones. It was free off memory.

How do you know she got the wart at the pool?

Dr will tell you warts are a virus...but our DGS gets them on his face and has to have them taken off. His older brother had the same problem, and did outgrow it around 5. Out little man is only 4 and has had at least 20th...big brother never gets them from his little brother, and they share towels and such...only on their face and hands. Dr said they can't pass them to each other.

The doc asked was she at a public pool w/o water shoes or a kids play place recently. ... Only 1 applied. Although a 3rd option is always plausible doc stated there are the 2 leading causes.

I don't see how water shoes would help. The water gets in the shoes, so how would they prevent anything?

Sent from my phone using DISBoards Ap, please excuse any typos and autocorrect mistakes.

1. If you have a Disney Visa card, you can show it and get either a free water wallet or locker rental.
2. I always drive--parking is free even for those not staying at a Disney resort--and keep my stuff in the locked car. They will gladly let you out and back in to access your car.

Did not know that, great info! 20 for a locker rental is more than I would pay but free fits perfectly into my budget.

How do you know she got the wart at the pool?

i believe sweetdana is speaking of plantar warts.
from mayo clinic:
the virus does thrive in warm, moist environments — such as shower floors, locker rooms and public swimming areas. Consequently, you may contract the virus by walking barefoot around pools or gyms.

never had a wart in my life, but wound up with a plantar wart from a Disney cruise (the only public place i had been barefoot - in years - was by the ship's pool).
the wart originated on the ball of my foot, and went inward to the bone. walking was painful (like having a small stone in your foot). attempts at laser surgery were futile (and incredibly painful - i had a freaking hole from to ball to bone:faint:), as well as freezing, cutting, and every OTC med available.
i finally found a podiatrist that was able to get rid of the wart in a few months, but not permanently - it returns about every other year. as with other warts (HPV), once the virus is in your system, it cannot eradicated entirely.
ditto what sweetdana said: do not go barefoot at the WPs - why unnecessarily risk something so painful?

personally, i would have preferred a different souvenir from the cruise, but oh well ;)
