Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

It is unfortunate but you have not provided any information which can assist us in giving useful answers.

Autism is a spectrum, and people are somewhere on this spectrum. For example the same thing, such as nearby fireworks as an example, could affect a child anywhere from as "so what" through covering ears and/or eyes to stimming to having a complete meltdown.

Is the child a boy or girl? What is the approximate age and size; there is a big difference sometimes in how a four-year old will react and how a 14 year old will react.

The water parks have slides, lazy rivers and wave pools. BB, for example, has more slides than TL, but TL has a better wave pool and swimming with sharks.

How is the child affected by heights, or waves, or other things. If you can provide more information we would be able to provide better hints and suggestions.

It might depend on the age/height of the child. Both parks have areas for small children, but Blizzard Beach also has a "pre teen" area.

If you aren't interested in slides but want to swim, both have pools and lazy rivers. The pool at BB has small "bobbing" waves while Typhoon Lagoon has a big time "surf" wave.

WELL, think carefully about the water parks. NO GAC there, at least when we went. CMs seem to be less trained about special needs guests, too. We had some bad experiences.

We have stopped taking DS(Sean) to the water parks, but he used to love them. At Blizzard Beach they use the gondola on the chair lift for autistic guests, or so we were told. (we said he was ok on the regular chair, but I understand their concerns). You can't bring the tubes up on the gondola of course. Sean has a Convaid chair, and if we left it at the bottom of the hill by the chair lift, when you come down the slides, you end up somewhere else in the park. (only BB has the chair lift of course)

It was easy when he was little, his Dad could carry him! DS has trouble walking up the hills at the water parks, poor vision, balance, distractability, low muscle tone. For a few years, we would get to the water parks, and head to the family raft ride first. BB has a much longer ride than TL for this. Then I would take the other 3 kids on the big slides, while DH took Sean in the lazy river. After lunch, I would leave with Sean, and DH would then go on the bigger slides with the other kids. Sean would be tired by this time anyway, so it worked out ok. Sometimes we would all do the lazy river together before or after lunch. We loved the water parks!

But now we stick to the hotel water slides with Sean......
