Water Parks

We are in this predicament as well! Last time (the only times) we went to a waterpark wsa about 9 years ago. We went in the afternoon to TL and had a good time. I think we did the shark thing too.

Now this July, DH, DS who's celebratring his 7th bday there, and I are going without my oldest two. We need to go as cheaply as possible, but wanted to try the Water Park, TL. We're getting 7 day base tix and figured we'd add the water park, but now I think that's not possible (we've always had AP's in the past). I think you have to go to hoppers and then add a water park on. Am I correct on this?

We are NOT early risers and won't be there at 9am.....maybe noon, maybe 2 and stay until closing. I thought it closed late in July. I guess we'd have to buy one day admission tix.

Any advice? Anyone know the answers to the above?

Thanks!
Beth
(PS, DS is NOT adventurous, so we'll probably just do the family raft ride, the wave pool, and lazy river....any other ideas for us?)

OK, I see that in July, TL is open until 7pm. I think 3pm until 7pm would be neat! I also see that is has EVENING EMH on some days.....does anyone know how long that would be? 7pm until 10pm? That would be awesome!

Has anyone here done the waterpark evening EMH?

Thanks!

No, you don't have to have the hopper. We have a 5 day base ticket and will just buy a 1 day ticket for TL. If you want to go at least twice you can add the water park and more option to your base ticket at a good price.

I'm not a math whiz by any stretch of the imagination but when I figured out our trip we decided not to go with the water park option on the hopper because in order to make it pay for itself you have to go more than one time. Sounds to me since your son isn't adventurous you can get by purchasing a daily admission, do the stuff he likes and then if he wants more water time the rest of the trip utilize the resort pools.

I think we'll end up with the one day ticket. Should we get that in advance?

Each time we've gone, we used "plus" passes. But now we're out of them and the particular package we booked for July doesn't include them. But that's okay, it just means we'll pay for tickets when we check in (I'd just rather not stand in line at the gate to buy tix)...it's actually cheaper that way than upgrading our ticket packages.

We've been to TL in June and August and it filled to capacity by noon. We were always there when it opened so we had no problem getting a group of lounge chairs. Then we would hit all the slides.

One of the funniest things (if you have a warped sense of humor like we do!) is watching people slowly enter the big lagoon pool for the first time. Then watch the look on their faces when they see the big wave for the first time. They have a look of "this should be fun" which quickly changes to a bit of concern, "hey, that's a seriously big wave!" which even faster changes to outright panic, "OMIGOSH, save the children!" :)

Last year we bought the Hidden Mickey book. When we went to TL, my DD8 asked, "Dad, where are the hidden Mickey's here at Typhoon Lagoon?" I replied that the book actually said no one has officially found a genuine hidden Mickey at TL yet." DD8 peeled her eyes and looked everywhere. While going backwards under a bridge on the lazy river, she shouted, "There's a hidden Mickey!" I thought, "Sure there is." But, guess what? There it was! A railing for a bridge was cut with Mickey ears by an Imagineer but the ears are under the area where you could see them from anywhere but going backwards under the bridge in your tube. We emailed pics (don't forget to bring and UNDERWATER disposable camera with you) to the author and he gave our DD8 Lauren credit on the website for the first hidden Mickey find at TL! pirate:

Just keep in mind that the afternoon thunderstorms roll in around 4:00pm every day in the summer, and they close the slides and wave pool at the first sign of thunder. While it usually doesn't last maybe 30-60 minutes, I have been at Disney many times where it has rained into the evening.

That being said, TL is my preference over BB. I just like the tropical feel, snorkeling at Shark's Reef and just love the wave pool! The wave pool at BB doesn't do anything for me like the one at TL does.

I have a question. We are planning on going to TL and we are during the week of 5/1-5/7. During this early part of the season, do we still have to worry about getting there really early to get a chair? Thanks.

I was there during October, which is also an off season, and I would recommend arriving early to get chairs together and in a good spot. Also, you'll really avoid wait times by getting started early. My favorites at TL are the new Crush n' Gusher and the Shark pool. I think the highlight of my entire trip was watching my 5 year old's facination with the shark pool. He went across once holding my hand, then we decided to go again. I was helping his big brother with his mask, then I reached over to hold his hand again and he was already off on his own. I would save swimming with the sharks for later in the day though, because the water is chilly.

What is the minimum number of people per raft on the family raft ride? Can we go with just 2 or will they pair us up with another family?
