Hi

Though we have visited WDW a number of times and LOVE it - we have never been to a water park.

The main reason for this is that DH can't swim!! Do you think that there is any way an adult non-swimmer could enjoy a water park?? I love swimming but feel that I may not be able to do much either if DH & I wanted to stay together.

I like the sound of swimming with the sharks & things at TL & a relaxing float around on those rubber rings - but I don't suppose any of that would be possible??

I would welcome any info. or opinions,
Claire

Hi Claire from just down the road in Andover!

The water parks are great and a non swimmer can have just as much fun as a good swimmer as the parks are not really designed for swimming per say just fun!.The giant rubber tubes to float around in at Typhoon lagoon are great fun and the same thing applies at BB on the Cross Country Creek.Or your other half can enjoy himself watching the rest of you from the shore line at TL He can even watch you snorkelling from the sunken ship.
If you want any more info on any thing else email me on

as I have a home over there and may be able to give you a lot more help.

I think you both could still enjoy the waterparks. You could do the lazy rivers. It is not that deep that you couldn't stand in them. Also it is nice to just wade into the water at both pools. Very relaxing place to spend the day.

Claire,
I am a non-swimmer(and a nose-holder) and I do everything that my family does. We go around the lazy river and ride almost all of the slides and raft rides. The water at the bottom is not very deep. I also even did the swimming with the sharks thing. They require you to wear a life vest and it keeps you afloat. All you have to do is lean forward into the water so you can see the fish and paddle across the pool. You don't actually go way down. You just float across the top of the water and look down into the pool through the mask. He will probably love it. I also went out into the wave pools though not farther out than I felt comfortable. We have been to BB and TL. The only slides that I don't go on are the really tall ones--not because of the water but because of the fall down to the water. Go, you will have a great time.

Go! Other than further out in the wave pool, I can't think of anyplace where the water would be over an adult's head. He should be able to stand up just fine, on any of the attractions.

If he doesn't mind going under water for a few seconds at the bottom of some of the body slides, he can do them too. He'll be able to stand right up after splashdown.

Go for it. You do not need to be a strong swimmer at all... actually a sence of balance when your an adult is more of what you need then being able to swim in the catch pools. There is a little bit of a current, but adults shouldnt really have a problem with them at all. And, there are also great lifeguards and ride ops. who are there to lend a hand if needed:D Dont let being a non-swimmer stop anyone from enjoying the water parks...

Also, I've heard lots of Guest floating by in cross country creek (the lazy river at BB) say that they could stay in there allllll day, and they arnt kidding!.;) :D :jester:

I'm a very strong swimmer. It's a skill I've not used at a Disney water park.....

The lazy river everyone keeps talking about is just the living end. I intentionally stay out as late as posible the night before a water park. The purpose of vacation, to me, is having no purpose. When you stay out all night at PI (all night at 40 = until midnight!) and wake up in the morning with no priority but driving to TL so you can float aimlessly around Castaway Creek, well, THAT'S vacation. As mentioned above, the only time you have to swim is if you choose to go out over your head in the wave pool. CC is about three feet deep, warm, shaded, with music piped in. Take your non-swiming DH, throw him in an inner tube, have him pull a hat over his head, and just snooze the day away....

Hi

Last year we took non swimming scottish septugenarian granny with us and she loved the water parks as much as the rest of us. She particularly loved the lazy rivers and she also enjoyed Teamboat Springs (the world's longest family raft ride).
Being a late swimmer myself who used to avoid swimming pools etc. I can understand your DH's reluctance but allow me to repeat what others have said - these parks are not swimming pools but shallow pools to have fun. So I would say there is definitely no good reason for not going and having a great time.

I am a non-swimmer & love waterparks. Like the others have said, there is no need to be able to swim as all the rides empty into a shallow pool. If you are as clumsy in the water as me you might fall over getting on (or out of) a raft or tube, but even that is great fun. Go & have a great time!!

Your DH should not have any problem. I am a non swimmer myself. As the fellow posters have said the catch basins and lazy rivers are not that deep; he should be able to walk to the edge of the pools. The catch basins have a bit of currefnt and will be able to drift your way almost to the stairs

Thanks all - for the informative reponses!!

DH has read your posts and we are thinking about including a trip to TL in our September trip!

I'm a non swimmer and I love the water parks. The tube rides are great and keep you afloat. Also, BB has one of the best family raft ride. You must try that one. The whole family will enjoy it.
