Water park footwear?

I read an article suggesting that the ground heat at the water parks is pretty sufficient and that you should wear water shoes or flip flops. Is this true?

If it is, are you allowed to wear water shoes on the rides, or do you have to remove and hold them? We all have flip flops, but not water shoes. Trying to figure out if we should buy them.

First let me say we don't go on the extreme body slides, but we've never had to take off our water shoes for any ride/slide. WRT need for shoes, in the summer, yes, the concrete gets quite hot. But even in cooler weather, my feet and knees couldn't handle all that walking, standing, and stair climbing barefoot. Not to mention when the TL wave pool is freshly resurfaced, it's like 100 grit sandpaper (that's the roughest, right??). We like the Speedo brand.

You will be asked to remove shoes for the bodyslides, but not for the inner tube slides. I like wearing watershoes for cleanliness (although the Disney water parks are very clean). I wouldn't say it's too hot to go barefoot unless you're particularly sensitive to that. My son goes barefoot at the Disney waterparks in July without a problem.
