Ok This could get long. We went to the only real amusement park in our state last week, and they have a water park inside the compound. DW , DD, And the nephew we had with us all dressed in swim suits that were fairly modest, with cover ups to wear after swimming, the kids even brought clothes to change into, dw a T-shirt and cover up shorts. My Question now is, when did all the young people in the world decide they want to show every thing to the world at such a young age???
I will never again speak badly of a "speedo" , Those would have shown less than some of the baggy cant keep em up boys suits we saw. Ok Yeah I know baggy shorts are the style, BUT PLEASE if you have to wear them, at least try and make sure they will stay up. More than once we saw more cheek than could be consiodered proper,, along with the other side when the kids would stand up out the water and suits would not.
Ok Nuff about the guys with it all hanging out on to our darling young women of the world. IT IS NOT OK for 10 or 12 year old girls to wear suits like that:eek: These girls were wearing what appeared to have started out as modest bikinis appropriate for thier age,, but, Apparently its now ok for then to take a shoe string, and make a low rise my cheeks are hanging out over and under bottom ? maybe on an older person, at a home pool would this style have been ok to me, but my god these kids were ata very large public park with no adults apparently even near them?
The teens were worse. more than once we were given full veiw of 16-17 yr olds tops because the suits were tied so loose. Thew bottoms were either altered with strings, ( i know somesuits are made htat way, these were not they were tied down at the park by the kids( we watched a pair of girls "shorten" the rise of each others bottoms while standing in line for a tube) We saw one teen who came in with a very conservative suit on go into rest room after she was dropped off,, and come out in a bikini that left nothing to the imagination. I swear it was all but transparent and what there was of it wiould have fit into a coffee cup. Then there was the pair of girls who were actually tucking the bottoms of thier suit into area it should not be tucked into. Seriously There were at least 2 that we watched do the fingers aroiund the edge thing as they stood from the water, but they worked fingers together instead of apart:
 :(
And the adults were just as bad. More than one mother with young children was on full display, same thins either transparent suits, skimpy as can be, and obvious about it. Has subtlety completely died? One of my favorites was the 40'ish lady who reached up playing with her hair and untied her own top. While standing in line at the concession area. Then there was the guy whose suit was constantly in plumber mode. The two old guys in bathing suits and black socks with sandles, and button up shirts, The younger adulty guy who was not there to swim, had no suit stayed dressed in long baggy black pants, a black t that was cut up and combat boots, oh yeah and a stocking cap.. also black. sitting on a chaise lounge in full sun....
Then we have the ones both old and young that ignore all the signs saying that cover ups are required after leaving this area.. no telling how many young ladies we saw riding rides that flipped and tossed them around,, in a bathing suit top with a pair of skimpy shorts , or a mini skirt over the hips, the guys with dripping swim suits and no shirts walking around and in lines for rides. Where are we going? Is america goiung to eventually become a nudist colony? Since when was it ok to be nude in public, Dont htese kids understand that there aer way to many sexual predators and pervs around for them to flaunt thier bodiues in public"? I've seen more coverage at the victorias secret fashion show,, in t he lingerie departement than these kids had.

I know. It's amazing some of the things you will see at a water park. My best friend will let her 12 year old daughter wear just about anything she wants and it just kills me. I see the way some men look at her and it makes me sick. If my daughter were to think she could ever wear something like that she has got another thing comming!!

It is not just the water parks, while at the Taste of Buffalo yesterday with another couple, there at one of the stands was a Buffalo Jill NFL Cheerleader. She was maybe late teens to early 20's. The outfit left nothing to the imagination. Midriff top laced together and the short short skirt covering her panties had both cheeks sticking out. Something all the men did notice. My friend and I had a good laugh at how many men with their GF or DW walked by and pretended not to look, but only emphsized their stares. Also it was funny how many men stop to ask questions:rolleyes:

I know if that was my daughter I would not be very happy with that situation. One of the many reasons cheerleaders do not get much respect. Just look at the way they are displayed in magazines, TV and worst of all those calendars. Bet no matter how intellegent they are not many admire them for their brains.

oh i agree the "professional" cheerleaders are trashy loking, How ever on the othe hand, We stayed at the resort last week that was home to a UCA cheerleading camp while we were there. Those were the most well behaved courteous kids we saw all week:)

The thing that surprised me this spring was the number of young girls (teens) dressed very scantily standing on street corners holding a car wash fundraising sign enticing potential customers. Mind you these were all funds for school extra curricular groups.
I know times and customs evolve and change, but I never thought having self-respect would change.

I wonder about the lack of modesty too.

OMG, this gets me too!! I was picking up DS 13 at the movies last night and the way I saw girls around 13-14 years old dress was so inappropriate!! Micro mini skirts, low cut tops, etc. The saddest part was the way that grown men were looking at these young girls!! It's just horrifying that parents let their kids buy these clothes and even more horrifying that grown men look at girls in a sexual way. You said you saw them "altering" their bathing suits! HOLY COW!! That is so sad to me....looking for that kind of attention. What is this world coming to... :(

::yes:: We saw this yesterday leaving the grocery store. We live in a small town but the main road gets pretty busy, anyway, out on the main road was two of the cheerleaders from the local high school wearing next to nothing. DH freaked!! He starts telling the girls that if they ever dress like that they'll be locked in the house. Ok, they're two and 3 weeks old, pretty sure they weren't planning on it anytime soon!

we get the near nudes on the street corener around here too,, even for the church groups. those are the ones that get me,, i worry that one of the kids is going to get stopped and picked up by a trucker passing through and be gone. We get several hundred out of town trucks through here daily. Most through the interesction the kids use as fund raiser corner:) last year we had one church group whose spokes person at the corner was a 16 yr old girl we know, in a string bikini and a micro mini skirt as a cover up. Makes me wonder what our society is going to accept next,,

I totally agree. Also, I know I may get flamed for this, but what gets me are the shorts/pants with writing across the butt. NO WAY is my daughter going to wear those as long as I am buying her clothes (and hopefully not ever!). Why put writing where I DON'T want men staring?? (I am now putting on flame proof suit.)

Jeanne, I'll join you then. ;)

I picked out a cute scooter skirt at Target yesterday for my DD. Turned it around and read "Cutie". Put it RIGHT back and told DD why I was NOT buying that skirt. If you wanna call my DD a cutie, you better be looking at her face!

Sometimes I'm even uncomfortable seeing young girls (under maybe 8yo), wearing a 2 pc bathing suit. DD was at a pool BD party yesterday for a 6yo, and the only 2 pc suit had a skirted TOP! :D

Prude, No. Conservative, Yes.

Froggy, I can't help but think that somewhere in Ark a bunch of scantily clad kids are talking about your family too..."you should have seen these folks...they might as well have been wearing winter coats..." ;) BTW, I'm with you. I don't even like to see my own behind. I don't need to go out in public and see every one elses!

actually i was worryed they might ask me to leawve thepark, due to the fact i was noit in swim attire, was in jeans shorts and a denim shirt, with my do rag hiding my facial disfiguement and my eye patch,,carrying a camera and a back pack , and three large towels..lol i figure i was talked about but i really dont care, my face is strange, get over it cause i ainmt hiding in the house and stopping living, yeah i have things i cannot or do not do anymore, yeah i have a black patch over my right eye and yup i am wearing a bandana (flydanna actual brand) do-rag that covers the tissue eexpanders and hides threm from veiw,,but it s more to hide the disfigurement from the public and to protect my face right now i could get a job in a bat man movie( remember harvey? two face?)

now back to the under dressed.. i totallyu agree with the kids shorts pants skirts with the big bright contrasted lettering on the rear. which brings us to another trashy fashion staement ,,, a dark or brightlky colored bra under a white or translucent shirt??????

I always wonder if people actually look in the mirror before they leave their houses. I was always taught nothing colored under whites or light colored clothes. (that goes for tops and bottoms) I am 46 and I still check to make sure nothing is showing that shouldn't be.

We had a female in the grocery store that was wearing a white skirt, don't know if she checked the mirror before leaving, but all the guys I work with with commenting on th fact that she was wearing thong underwear......yep, the skirt was definately see through enough that we could all tell.

The things we see people wearing when they come grocery shopping makes me wonder what these people are thinking when they walk out the door.

Folks,
you'd better realize that this is the 21st century ;)
And if you don't like how other people dress, just look the other way

Great thread and great comments that I whole-heartedly agree with. ::yes:: I tell dd's if they want to dress like and look like trash, people will think they are trash and treat them like they are trash. (Alot of it comes down to self respect, imho.) So far it's working (of course they are young and may not think I'm so smart in a few years! ;) ) The lack of modesty is not only in so called public places, but it's happenng in our work place that 5-7 years ago everybody was wearing suits or dresses and pantyhose. I see more belly buttons and things trying to hang out than I'd like. Oh and I've always gone by the if you don't like it don't look motto, but it's pretty hard not to see at work when it sits in the cube next to you and does things just to get attention anyway it can.  Issues!:D

Its crazy,, and its not even sexy, its trashy, We discussed this at supper last night with our best friends whose son was along with us on this trip. It came up when they asked why i took pics of all the rides they went on except the water slides and stuff. I was scared to take pics there. Was afraid some of them would quailfy as kiddy porn at the rate the kids were taking off clothing.

This is so true. What's sad is that these girls do not realize this. It's very, very sad IMO.

I have to agree with most of the posts. I wonder if these kids' parents know how their kids are dressing, or if they care. I understand that this is the 21st century, but does that mean that modesty is left behind in the last century?

When it comes to adults, there is a big difference between sexy and trashy. A women can be fully covered and look sexy. Skimpy outfits on women only make them look trashy, not sexy IMO.

Now, when it comes to children and teens, well they should not be trying to look sexy or trashy.

I wanted to comment on the post that someone said about young girls wearing 2 piece bathing suits. My daughters (12 and 10) always preferred 2 piece suits because it was easier for them when they needed to go to the ladies room. But the suits they wear are not the least bit skimpy and all important parts are fully covered.

Although, when it comes to water parks, they wear one piece suits, and are more than happy to because they know of the "accidents" that can happen.

I totally agree about skimpy vrs sexy,, it takes about 15 seconds to look at a nude and see whats t here,, with the proper coverings,,, it takes longer to appreciate, and gives that air of mystery that is so important...

now to get off topic, in my own thread no less, when did it become sexy to dress in low rise pants and a short top to work at wal mart? i dunno but the big blue vest and steal toes shoes really seem to ruin the look shewas going for,,,,
