Oh all you wonderful people- could you give a newbie like me a description of what a 'Water Mouse' actually is? Is it worth renting with a 6 year old? We are staying at the WL and I think they have them as a rental option.

Thanks!

Watermice fit 2 people and cost about $20.75 per half hour . We take them out every year and have a blast. My youngest was about 5 when we first took her in one. They aren't very fast , you get life vests and we found a half an hour plenty of time to play.Wear sunscreen, a tight hat and sunglasses, and you could get a little wet from splashing. They are fun.......

try this page for a picture that will sum it up
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photos/caribbeanbeachresort/100-0057_aut_jpg.html

also a little more info on them.
1) the bigger engines are found on the seven seas lagon and bay lake (resorts fw, wl, cr, poly, gf) at the yacth beach club they run a smaller motor due to the room on the lake, downtown disney, por, okw are the same.
2) they are much more fun on bay lake more room to explore more to do.
3) there is a maxium capacity of 2 per watermouse and a weightlimit of 300 pounds,
4) your 6 year old will think it is the best ride at wdw they will think they go very fast. (they don't top roughly 10mph)
5) they are worth every penny

have fun

Too cool!

Thanks for the pic- I was totally thinking they were like a paddle boat!!

This will be a definate rental!:D

Whoops- that should have been definite! I am so excited I'm typing too fast!

Thanks again!

To return your water mouse to the dock if it doesn't appear to go fast enough. They may have addtl. ones to try out.

DH & DS were in a water mouse we rented from WL on our trip in '00. DD & I were in a different one. Ours "putt-putted" around the lake while DH was zooming circles around us. DD (almost 3 at the time) kept saying "Faster, Mommy. Faster!" and DS (6 y/o) kept saying, "Dad, slow down."

I didn't know I could have tried another one until I read it here on the board.

Now that I'm recalling this story, perhaps it wasn't a problem with the water mouse after all. Maybe it was the pairing of child/parent that we should have changed!!!

;)

I know they used to rent them at CS, Not sure if they still do but it wouldn't be worth it. the lake is wayyyyy too small there. Take the time and rent one over at the magic kingdom area or downtown disney much better. have fun

We stayed there in early May and they did have watermice at the Coronado Springs. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the watermice at the Contemporary are supposed to be faster.
